| 1 | severe osteoporosis | I experienced a violent coughing attack due to the acid reflux from the 1st and only dose. This resulted in a bilateral subderal hematoma requiring emergincy surgery to drain blood and fluid from around my brain. I was in the hospital for over a month, to control the swelling. The prolonged swelling of my brain was due to the severity of the hematoma. This may not happen to many people and there may be those that didn't live to tell what happened. I almost died. I feel if it happened to me it could happen to others. I have had every test from MRIs to lumbar punctures to blood tests and a nerve biopsy and spent 11 weeks in hospital in total over this period. I have had extreme acid reflux for the past 2-3 weeks, but I didn't realize, until just now, the Fosamax may have been at the root of it all. 3 days after I starting taking Fosamax, I became really congested, started wheezing, and called my doctor. I have not been able to get rid of the bronchitis and coughing, despite taking the medication my doctor prescribed. Now, I think the Fosamax may be linked to all of this.
