| 1 | osteoporosis | I started taking Fosamax 70 in 2004. At that time I was running 5 miles a day and was surprised that I had osteoporosis since there is none in my family. I didn't experience much pain except for heart burn all the time. In Janurary 2006 I lifted a laptop incorrectly and felt a painful twinge in my back. The pain didn't get any better and by September I had to have the assistance of a wheel chair. I went to a Neuro-surgeon and he performed a partial Disksectomy. This relieved the pain but here I am a year later with pain in my lower back, my knees, my right foot, my jaw and my eyes burn and I still have heart burn. I can hardly stand to have any thing around my waist. I'm told that this is part of recovery. I started to put 2 and 2 together and realized that every week when I took Fosamax my knees and back hurt so much that I take Tylenol like candy and set with a heating pad. I can hardly bend over and only get any comfort while sitting. Ocular Migraines (semi circles of jagged flashing strobe light lines) which lasts 10 to 20 minutes. Numbness in fingers. Itchy arms and ankles. Neck pain. Chest and Back pain (bones). Shoulder pain. Hip and Spine pain. Jaw Pain. | The only side effect I attributed to Fosamax at first were the Heart Palpitations and Arythmia. Dr didn't relate symptoms to drug. Tried nose spray. Same result. Saw Cardiologist. Took stress test. Mild heart valve leakage. Dr didn't relate to Fosamax. Saw Osteo Doctor. Was prescribed 35 mg once a week. I could only tolerate about once a month, due to heart palpitations. I stopped taking drug immediately upon learning about jaw death. I didn't attribute any of the other symptoms to this drug until I read other postings on this site. I am taking EZORB calcium and vitamin D. Some symptoms have improved in the 5 months I have been off Fosamax (purple patches on inside of eyes, burning and tingling in feet. Jaw and neck pain is worse, but as far as I know my dental health is good. I see a Dentist regularly. She had NO underlying health conditions and was on NO other medications.. Pure, Plain, and simple Fosamax KILLED my aunt!!! I just took it and followed instructions of my doctor. I took the first tablet last Sunday before breakfast. The first side effect I experienced is a slight diarhia (3 times in the morning). Then, by 3:00 am, I experienced pain in my body. I thought the pain will subside in the morning but it didn't. It got worse. I could not get up without the help of my husband. He tried to help me by pulling my hands but the pain was such that it won't work. He was able to make me sit up by pushing my back up. I was only able to walk with the aid of a cane. I walked in so small steps and so very slow. I became disabled overnight. I went to the doctor Monday afternoon. He prescribed pain killer but I did not take it. I was afraid that if I don't feel the pain, I might fracture more bones.
