Took 7 weeks for the indigestion to stop. | We put too much faith in doctors for our health. Drugs are not the answer. Pharma will always down play side effects. Too big an industry to challenge. We need to empower ourselves with knowledge and make informed decisions for our body. Apparently if you do break a bone while on fosomax the healing process takes 3 times as long ! What does that tell you. Sure your bone scan shows thicker bones but the quality and integrity of the bone is very compromised. I had slight bone lose so stared Fosamax. I am calling my doctor tomorrow for another bone scan, and going to stop the drug and see if I feel, OH I WILL BE HAPPY. I don't take any other drugs. I now take 1200 mg of calicum and vitamin D, which I wasn't doing before which mayb be the cause of bone loss. I felt a little light-headed that morning but ignored it. The following day I felt like I had been in a car accident- every bone and joint hurt severely. A week later I still felt a lot of pain and was taking Ibuprofen around the clock. I called my doctor who told me to stop the pill and wait two weeks and try again. Well, I took one tablet yesterday and today everything hurts worse again. No more for me. They do not know the cause of it so as a last resort I stopped taking fosamax (much to my Drs dismay) and the lichen planus stopped. While I was on fosamax my osteo never improved. I stayed off fosamax and on calcium, vitamin D3 supplements and exercise, and after 18 months my osteo numbers were stable. I might add that 13 months after stopping fosamax the lichen planus returned on my scalp. I still blame the fosamax for knocking my immune system out of wack. Has any experienced Lichen Planus after taking these types of drugs? | For the 3 years I was on Fosamax my Osteo never improved. Being off Fosamax for 18 months and taking calcium, D3 supplements and exercise my Osteo (dexa scan numbers) stayed stable. Now my Dr wants me to take Actonel. Had rods inserted in each femur to prevent complete fractures. This is not a side effect but a complication. | Dexascans do not show bone quality, only density. Taking bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, alendronate sodium, etc.) for longer than 3-5 years puts a person at risk for this complication - bone fractures instead of strength. The FDA has issued new warnings about this problem. I am one of more than 350 patients who have reported such problems. How many more are experiencing this, we do not know. Had several tests over next month and the GI doctors said that my esophagus had narrowed (a known side effect of Fosamax). I was taken off Fosamax(alendronate) by the GI md after the second episode and still had a third severe episode of choking where even water couldn't get through the blockage. I am now on Prilosec daily to prevent the choking, but am weaning myself off that, since it causes osteporosis! Meanwhile, I am eating soft foods in tiny pieces and chewing like a child. I was told there is an injectable form of Fosamax, but I have trouble swallowing calcium tablets and vitamins. I am ready to join a class action suit to prevent this happening to any more people. I cannot believe all the side effects I have read about on this site. I was in great health and retired 7 months ago and joined a gym.I should have investigated Fosamax before i took it, plus I had a feeling it was causing me to feel this way.
