1  allergies I am so happy I found this site! I have been seeing all kinds of doctors the last 5 months and no one could figure out what is wrong with me. I have terrible mood swings, depression, inability to concentrate, diziness, disorientation, neck pain, fatigue, trouble sleeping, and anxiety. All of this is so unlike me as I have always been a very healthy person. The only drug I take is Flonase. I also have a Sinus Infection right now, but not sure if that has anything to do with Flonase. The scary thing is that no one warns you about these types of side effects. When you realize that Flonase is a steroid, it makes more sense. I would not take this drug.... One other interesting thing is that Flonase can inhibit your bodies ability to fight infection. Which could be why a number of people listed that they got bladder infections right away. What scares me is that doctors don't seem to know about all these side effects. I was put on an antibiotic for my sinus infection and my doctor told me it was OK to take Flonase too. I looked up Flonase on the internet and found, "Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you have a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection of any kind. The absorption of this drug into your system can inhibit your body's ability to fight off infections. You may not be able to use fluticasone nasal if you have an infection." Seems pretty cut and dry, but the pharmacist tried to tell me that Flonase might just "mask" an infection from being detected. So should I feel better about that? I would avoid this drug at all costs as there is not enough solid long-term information available.... M 36 1 years

4  Allergies Recurring nosebleeds. Uncomfortable and not sure worth it!! Yes, it works great, but as a teacher getting an nosebleed in the middle of class is major inconvenient. F 34 1 months

1  allergies/chronic sinus headaches I had a vision problem taking the drug. My eye sight diminished according to my eye physician. After a few months of not taking Flonase my sight went back to 20/20! It worked well despite the fact that it had such a severe affect on my vision. Now I use a saline solution every morning, doesnt work quite as well but beats having my sight compromised. F 57 9 months

5  severe seasonal allergies slight amounts of blood noticed in nasal passages, but never any full blown nose bleeds I can take one puff in each nostril during the winter and be great. I usually need a total of three puffs(one in one nostril, two in the other) during spring and summer. Outside of the drainage that occurs right after taking the med, no other issues. Works great for me with no side effects, unlike the zyrtec which really screwed me up. M 31 4 years

5  Allergies Dry mucous membranes, and some mild bleeding when blowing my nose This stuff is great. I used to have really bad allergies, with severe post nasal drip. I would go through a box of tissues in a few days. Now it takes me about a month to go through that same box of tissue. At the same time, I also started taking singular. Between the two medicines, I feel like a new womam F 31 90 days

3  post-nasal drip slight bleeding when I blow my nose I haven't had the bad side effects that others mention, but I'm not sure this is helping my post nasal drip very much. There's a little improvement, but I have seen a lot more improvement since I started using a simple non-prescription saline rinse (NeilMed). I noticed that not many others were prescribed this for post nasal drip, so maybe the nurse-practitioner prescribed it inappropriately. F 50 2 months

4  non-allergy related sinus discharge After three weeks of use; experienced chronic almost unstoppable nose bleeding that was very severe for three days and less so the next few days. Was forwarned with little blood specs in my mucous starting several days before starting to flood. Almost had to have my sinus packed. It improved my symptoms but for the bleeding I would have continued it. M 53 3 weeks

1  mild allergies, stuffy nose Persistant sore with scabby clot and blood in nasal mucous. Never susceptible to nose bleeds or bloody mucous before. Have been more anxious and prone to fly-off-the handle in the past few months than typical. Have been feeling more tense and short-of-breath which I attributed to anxiety. It makes the stuffiness go away, but what a cost to me and my family! Have only stopped taking a few days ago, nose sore not healing yet, still feeling tense / hyper. I didn't pay attention to this being a steroid medicine, but the tension / aggression does seem similar to experiences I have had with prednisone. F 40 4 months

1  chronic sinusitis Severe anxiety, unbelievable muscle rigidity. had to go to physical therapy for 2 months to get my back and shoulders straightened out. once i went off the flonase, it took about 3 weeks to feel normal again. i would not recommend this drug. F 33 6 months

5  plugged sinus Dry nasal passage, some bleeding. I use flonase followed by a dab of vaseline in both nostrils every night. I can always breath now! I could not tolerate flonase without the use of vaseline at least once daily (more in dry or cold winter weather). My docotr (surgeon) said I would be required to take flonase for life following sinus surgery to open blockages. I can usually breath through both nostrils now. I never get sinus infections any more, that may be a result of sinus surgery that removed turbinates and God knows what other spare parts! Breathing is GREAT now! M 49 10 years

1  chronic sinusitis and allergies easily aggitated, irritable, mood swings, became aggressive at times, seemed to decrease attention span, diminished ability to concentrate, hyperactivity It did help somewhat with sinusitis and allergy symptoms, but numerous side effects (which two different doctors claimed could not be caused by Flonase) far outweighed any benefits. Within one week of discontinuing usage, all of the side effects have either disappeared or have greatly decreased in severity. We decided to take our son off Flonase just to see if any of the side effects and emotional/behavioral issues would clear up. We could hardly believe it when he started acting like his old self again. Without us saying a word about any of this, his teachers came up to us after school at the end of his first week off Flonase, and said how much better he was doing in school. They were wondering if we had started him on Ritalin or something similar to help his attention span. The teachers said his attention span, concentration, and hyperactivity had dramatically improved that week. We do not give him any other medications. The only thing we did was discontinue the Flonase. We s M 11 6 months

3  severe allergies Works great on my allergies. Howver, am I the only person who has problems with getting the blinking thing to actually SPRAY four times in succession? Flonase is much better than nasonex (or is it nasacort that is prescription one?) , but at least nasonex would ALWAYS spray. F 56 2 years

1  Allergies High Blood Pressure after being hypotensive all my life! Headaches, stomach aches, constipation. For the first 20 days, this seemed to work great although I was having trouble sleeping at night. Then the constipation started, followed by blisters in my mouth. I stopped taking all my vitamins and my thyroid meds for two days and gradually added each back. As soon as the day the Flonase started everything went crazy. I have had an MRI of my brain because because of neck inflamation and tomorrow go for an echocardiogram. My bp which is normally 100 or less over 54-60 in now running 140-175 over 88-120. I am on medication to reduce the bp. My doctor can't believe it would be the Flonase but that's the only change. F 59 40 days

2  Seasonal allergy congestion I was very grouchy and aggressive all weekend that I took Flonase. I also had severe nightmares. I also had heart palpitations. I am taking Griffonia for mild depression which is a natural remedy, and I don't think that these two medications work well together. I'm interested to hear from others on mild antidepressants. The insert says to take care with natural or prescription antidepressants, but I can't find detailed information on this. Maybe this is why? F 31 2 days

3  allergies This season I noticed over time that my nearly constant runny nose has stopped running, and instead turned into constant post nasal drip. Now all that mucus I used to blow out is dripping into my lungs and my asthma is out of control for first time this summer. I stopped taking Flonase over a month ago, but the flow has not reverted back - I fear this drug may have cortorized or otherwise affected the passages between my sinuses and nose. For allergies its great - treats all indoor and outdoor types without the racing heart and sleeplessness you get from antihistimines. F 36 4 years

1  Allergies Acid Reflux, anxiety and panic attacks! I had never experienced acid reflux before taking Flonase. Within 2 weeks of taking Flonase I thought I was having anaphylaxis episodes (throat closing due to swelling because of allergies). I almost fainted several times due to the intense pressure I felt in my throat. I had no heartburn so it took another week until my doctor and I determined it was a result of Flonase which was causing acid reflux. I stopped taking Flonase but am now on heavy doses of presription antacids. It's now been 3 weeks since I've stopped taking Flonase and even with prescription antacids the acid reflux is so bad at times I feel like throwing up. I am a petite woman so weight is not an issue with contributing to the onset of acid reflux. I have an appointment to see a specialist to make sure I have no long term effects from the acid reflux to my throat. Based on my experience I would NEVER recommend using Flonase. F 40 20 days
