1  Severe Allergies Since staring Flonase I have been experiencing, trouble sleeping, nightmares, waking up in a panic. The worst part has been severe heart palpatations, really fast heart rate, painic attacks and anxiety. Also, feel very lightheaded, dizzy, heart pain, headaches. I have only been on this for about 9 days and just have stopped. I have had no other medical problems before taking this and am in good health. I am really starting to believe flonase is the cause because it is only thing I have changed in my life in the past week or so. I have been to the ER twice for my severe syptoms and they took all tests possible and attributed it to anxiety/stress or the flonsase. This worked wonderful for clearing my congestion, but IS NOT WORTH THE SIDE EFFECTS. F 22 9 days

5  Allergies None. Works well. Good way to use it to do a sinus rinse first, then blow your nose, then 1 shot/nostril/day. Nasal rinse feels weird but in combo with Flonase does the job. M 50 15 years

5  Allergies I noticed I started developing frequent fever blisters. Also, despite drinking a lot of water, I developed dry eyes, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, and blurred vision. It does work wonders on sneezing and itching so I use it when I have to. F 44 3 years

5  Hayfever, Alergies I have been taking flonase for 3 years. This has litterly made my life better due to my severe alergies. However, the side-effects have out-weighed the benefits! I have suffered from extremely severe migrane-like headaches for the past month, along with dizziness and vertigo. I have had trouble sleeping, and have had extreme mood swings. I stopped taking the flonase, and within 1 day, the headaches stopped!!! I am sleeping better, and the dizziness, vertigo, and mood swings are fading. If you don't suffer from side effects....this is the BEST medication ever. MAKE SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS!!!!!! M 31 3 years

3  allergies, stuffy nose Flonase works to clear the stuffiness but occasionally get alittle blood when blowing my nose in the a.m. (nothing major) I'm glad I found this site, after reading some of the side effects (cataracts at 40-50?) I'm going to reduce the number of times I use this stuff each day. F 52 10 years

3  Allergies:mold, dust, mites, pollen Herpes Zoster: never had an outbreak until 9 months after starting Flonase. Weight Gain: although a life long up and down battle, the pounds piled on during the time I've been on Flonase. Constipation: never a big problem previously, it became progressively more annoying. Infections: seemingly a mixed reaction because sinus infections decreased but other infections seemed to increase. Other Occasional Side Effects: more bruising, some fatigue similar to allergy fatigue, and anxiety induced sleeplessness. Relief from allergy symtoms: Rated 5. Problems now appearing to have developed because of Flonase: Rated 1. Just two days ago I decided to discontinue the Flonase. Today I decided to do an in depth search for side effects identified and explained in ways different from the official warnings. I must echo many others who have posted: neither written warnings nor verbal discussions with doctors stated symtoms and problems I have experienced could be caused by Flonse. However, the postings by other users now have me convinced Flonase is at least partially responsible for many of my problems. M 60 3.5 years

1  nasal congestion Insomnia, bruising, vaginal dryness and burning, low-grade depression The side effects came on gradually and it was weeks before I connected them to Flonase. As other have said, who could believe a nasal spray could cause these problems. F 60 60 days

2  Seasonal allergies I have always thought this was a miracle drug. It completely eliminated my hayfever type allergies. But for the last 9 months or so I have experience increasingly difficult periods of anxiety. I use Flonase before going to bed. Anxious feelings have begun to wake me about 30 min. after I go to sleep. I am unable to get back to sleep and have begun taking Xanax to relieve the anxiety. Anxious feelings now continue during the day, and wake me up if I try to nap. This website has given me hope. I am weaning myself off the Flonase on the advice of my pharmacist. He couldn't believe it had been prescribed for me for such a long period of time. (About 10 years.) F 61 10 years

1  nasal congestion Worked very well to considerably reduce my chronic nasal congestion, however after 6 months, my eyes have become so dry and irritated that I can no longer wear my contact lenses. I have been a lens wearer for 24 years with NO problems before this!! I have had to go to the eye doctor 4 times in past month! Thank goodness I read these comments tonight! Could this also be why I have had a horrible time sleeping for months now??? Scary. Last night will be the last time I ever use this product! F 40 6 months

4  Nasal Congestion, polyps After taking Flonase for 6 months most of the congestion was relieved. Noticed some slight bleeding and doctor advised me to take three days off every two weeks. This has helped but have noticed red swelling in and outside of my nose every time I stop. Currently have stopped for 5 days and noticed the same pain and swelling. Also noticed red dots on outside of nose. Works well to relieve congestin and has reduced the size of my nasal polyps. M 46 6 months

5  Seasonal Allergies Minor dizziness & vertigo occur if I move my head too fast. Not sleeping well. These side-effects just began after taking Flonase for two weeks, two sprays in each nostril per day. I will try reducing to one spray per nostril per day. I used Flonase last year and don't recall these side-effects. This has truely been my miracle drug for autumn allergies (mostly ragweed). I tried all of the over-the-counter and prescription oral medicines without much improvement. Flonase along with some OTC eye allergy drops makes me allergy-free! M 27 2 years

3  postnasal drip cough headache and insomnia this rx worked extremely well for the postnasal drip cough, however the headaches and insomnia required that I discontinue the drug. After 4 days off the drug, I began to sleep again and the postnasal drip was less than prior to the drug. F 60 2 weeks

3  persistent sinus infections None at first, then some minor symptoms in days 2 and 3, like dry mouth, puffiness around my eyes and circles under my eyes. Later on in the day, I had anxiety and couldn't sleep. It did give me some relief from the constant swelling of my sinuses I experienced since March (now August) and most severely for the past two months in Northern Virginia. I was new to the area and had no idea how bad the mold and pollen was. I never had severe summer allergies or a chronic sinus infection before moving here. Not sure about long term use. F 41 3 days

4  Seasonal Allergies Severe headached/migraines almost every other day--I'm not totally sure the Flonase caused them, but I never had migraines before taking this drug and they tapered off and eventually went away after I stopped taking the Flonase I used it in combination with Claritin and it completely got rid of my allergies. Unfortunately the headaches made it impossible for me to function so I had to go off it. F 25 30 days

1  nasal allergies loss of smell and taste, anxiety, perforation of septum I have taken a corticosteroid drug (Becanase,Vancenase or Flonase) for over 20 years to combat nasal allergies. The drugs worked great, reducing the number of sinus infections I would normally get. However in time the side effects have outweighed the benefits. I've suffered anxiety for many years not really knowing what was causing it. The loss of smell and taste I chalked up to a lifetime of nasal allergies and recurrent sinus infections. However most recently I have been diagnosed with a large perforation in my septum caused by a decrease blood flow in the nose. A surgery to correct the perforation and the "whistle" caused by it was unsuccessful. The surgeon couldn't perform the surgery because the tissue didn't have adequate blood flow to graft other tissue to it. I took this medicine for a long time, and no doctor (there were at least five who continued to prescribe it) explained the side effects to me. I should have read them on my own, but because I was so happy to have F 54 20 years

1  inflamation of sinus cavity tired all the time, unable to sleep, back pain, muscle pain and stiffness, acid reflux.. Do not take this medication unless you are willing to give up alot in return. M 38 1 weeks

2  strong allergies Headaches, not very responsive to NSAIDs. I had tentatively attributed temporal lobe epilectic-like episodes to the drug, because of their on-set after two months taking FLONASE. These episodes were accompanied by hot-flashes, and a sense of unreality - VERY weird!! Described the symptoms to my Doc and his immediate resonse was, "You're seizing [seizures]".Those episodes have stopped occurring. After reading other comments, it sounds as if my circumstantial evidence for the cause and effect of those symptoms may have been valid. FLONASE was a miracle for allergy control. I could control all the severe symptoms of stuffiness, running nose, sneezing, with one spray every other day. Headaches not so bad at that dose either. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the drug.
