| 1 | nasal congestion/allergies | Major weight gain, septum started bleeding, headaches, anxiety | I took Flonase for about 4 months. The first week or two was ok, but then I noticed my nasal passages and septum were extremely irritated and bleeding. I also started to gain weight fast. I probably gained a total of 30 lbs the short time I was on this drug. My heart would randomly feel weird too... like it was skipping beats -- anxiousness? I don't know. I am so glad to be off this medicine. If anyone else experienced major weight gain, I'd like to talk with you... I am still trying to drop the weight and don't know what to do... Reflux stopped w/i 3 months after taking Flonase.) * Occasional acne (at 41=> 51) * Erectile dysfunction developed over several years. | * Quite effective at reducing nasal mucous secretions. Significantly reduced minor colds. Replaced by NasalCrom w very good results and elimination of side effects over 6 months. * Wt gain 205=> 218 w/i first few months of starting Flonase. Wt loss of equal amount w/i 6 months of stopping after 10 yrs use. * Mile swim times increased 6.5% over 5 months after stopping. * Frequent small white secretions on tonsils that appeared after starting Flonase and largely left after stopping. Odd. * ED-- associated with aging and taking Lipitor. Stopped the Lipitor, and over 2 or 3 months some function returned and then no further improvement. Stopped Flonase 6 months later, and over tne next 6 months full function returned. I used to suffer from what I thought were 5 or 6 "colds" per year, but this was cut down to on every other year at most. After about 14 years of use, however, I started experiencing severe nasal dryness, bleeding, anxiety and increased insomnia (a previous problem). I started to supplement Flonase with sea water spray and this helped the dryness but not the other symptoms. I haven't had a migraine since I was 18 years old and now I've got one every day. I didn't put two and two together until I googled "Flonase headaches" and found this site. I've suffered with them for about 3 weeks now and couldn't figure out why until I remembered I'd started my Flonase about then,too. I hadn't made the connection because I'd never suffered any type of side-effect with Flonase before. So beware, even if you tolerate it fine now, you could develop side effects in the future. | I will say that Flonase did work for me and I'm afraid of what will happen now that I'm not going to use it anymore. I get almost panicky when I can't breathe through my nose. I've gotten hooked on nasal sprays in the past and will probably end up that way again. I just can't continue the Flonase---the headache pain makes me pretty non-functional. I saw all of the side effects listed by other people and realized that what appeared to be unrelated maladies, could easily be attributed to the increased dosage. Yikes, I think I will back off on the dosage. Bronchitis type symptoms with severe post nasal drip that caused a dry hacking cough every night upon laying down in bed. I went to the doctor 3x's and each time I was told it was not the Flonase, but just severe allergies. Antibiotics did not work. Finally, I ended up in the emergency room due to blood mixed in with mucus when I coughed. They did a chest x-ray, cat scan of my chest and a nasal probe and told me that my sinus were so severely dried out that ehy were swollen and small capalaries were breaking from the dryness. btw...my chest x-ray and cat scan were perfect. The emergency room doctor told me that in rare individuals this medication CAN cause bronchitis. I threw this stuff out!!!! I am now on antibiotics again and Zrtec because I was told to take NO Decongetants until my sinus heal. It was also recommended that I use Ocean Spray saline in my nose 8 times a day and use a vaporizer for the rest of the winter. The only thing that worked was Flonase. BUT, after being on it, we noticed a personality change.
