1  chronic stuffy nose Loss of peripheral vision after taking flonase for a year (returned after stopping). Terrible insomnia. One frightening episode of HEAVY HEAVY nose bleeding. Mood swings I attributed to caffeine. Works great if you can stand the side effects. Seems like the costs outweigh the benefits for me and other users here. Read the side-effects carefully and don't think it can't happen to you! M 38 1 years

1  seasonal allergies, pet dander I started taking Flonase about 4 years ago to help combat my seasonal allergies and allergies to pets. I didn't care for the floral scent that it produced. After the summer was over I lessoned my usage considerably and began to notice that my sense of smell wasn't the same, and then it began to diminish until now, I have no sense of smell! I also experienced panic attacks after taking Flonase, in addition to high blood pressure. Prior to Flonase I never experienced these side effects. My son's doctor prescribed Flonase for him as well for seasonal allergies, I absolutely refused to give it to him. It's just not worth the horrible side effects it can cause. I myself being an allergy sufferer feel for all of you who suffer as well, but in no way, shape, or form would I recommend taking this product. The long term side effects as well as the short term are not worth it. Flonase has taken away one of my major senses. I will never smell all of the wonderful scents in our world again. Sound Bitter? You bet I am! F 36 1 years

4  Sinus headaches and infections I only felt drowsy once in a while after taking it, but it soon passed (in about an hour). I wonder if continuation of the use of this product will create anxiety attack with me also. F 17 8 months

2  Cough due to nasal drainage I began to suspect the problems I began experiencing a few weeks ago might be attributed to Flonase, since I'm not taking any other drugs. I've been experiencing unexplained fatigue, insomnia, blurred vision, mild anxiety, drier than usual eyes, neck aches, and dull stomach pains, which started last week. I thought an ulcer I had last year was coming back so I started to take Prilosec OTC. Most of these effects gradually appeared, so I didn't think much about it until I was so tired today that I did a web search and found this site. I now realize I'm not alone and I'm discontinuing this drug beginning tomorrow morning and praying for a gradual return to normal. Sure, it dried up the nasal drip, but the gradual unexplained development of side-effects aren't worth the problems I've had. Also, the initial effectiveness in treating the drainage was diminishing.  3  Seasonal Allergies I had taken Flonase for years during the allergy season with no problems, but last year, I started having anxiety attacks during any stressful situation. I went to the MD and he said I had high blood pressure (which I never had before), and I was suffering from a mild anxiety disorder. He perscribed an anti-anxiety medication and blood pressure med. These medicines helped, but then I stopped taking Flonase, as it was soon Fall and I didn't need it. I also never expierenced another anxiety attack until this Spring after I had been taking Floanse again for a couple of weeks--and I was still on the Meds the MD had perscribed for me last year. I thought and thought about it, and the only thing I could come up with that seemed to coincide with the anxiety attacks was the Flonase. I really like what it does for my allergies, but hate how it messes with my head. I am going to give it up for awhile and see if my anxiety goes away. M 48 4 years

5  Allergies rarely have little amounts of blood in my nose during a cold, but nothing bad enough to worry about or even close to getting me to quit using. I was tested for allergies after getting sick with sinus infections every 3 months or so during the spring and fall alergy seasons for about 2 years strait. After starting on Flonase its a totally different life. I have probably only gotten 3 or 4 normal colds in 3 years and no sinus infections at all. This medication is the best thing that has ever happened to me medically speaking. M 28 3 years

4  seasonal allergies stinging in nose, nose bleeds (occassional) Generally works pretty well, but in peak season I have to add an Allegra as well. Glad that a generic is now available. F 51 3 years

3  Severe allergies and sinus problems Thrush (build up of yeast on the back of the throat); vaginal dryness and burning Flonase definitely has helped relieve my allergy symptoms and sinuses, but over the past 2 years, I have noticed increased dryness and burning whenever I use it. It is no longer worth taking it! F 30 4 years

2  Allergies/sinusitis/hayfever Dry throat, irritated nasal passages, "crusty" feeling in nose, mild headaches, feeling of drainage in the back of my throat, mild "lilac" scent that persisted for a few hours... Don't recommend it. It's expensive, and didn't do a thing for my allergies. Matter of fact, it made my nose more stuffy than ever! Back to plain old Otrivin for me. Even saline solution worked better than this stuff. Avoid. M 32 3 years

4  post nasal drip, scratchy voice JUST DIAGNOSED WITH OSTEOPOROSIS AT AGE 46! I now have the bones of a 76 year old woman. Otherwise extremely healthy, but my doctor wanted to check bone density because of long-term Flonase use. It absolutely kept my voice great and nasal drip non-existent. Very rarely caught a cold. Unfortunately, I've got to discontinue use now and work to restore my bones. F 46 12 years

1  chronic sinusitis Previously healthy female. After using Flonase, experienced vertigo (debilitating), anxiety, insomnia, severe muscle tension, and visual disturbances. Previously used Flonase with no problems and did not make the connection until my life was spinning out of control! Awful! I thought I was going crazy! Began seeing a therapist, who after five visits was convinced the cause was physical rather than mental. Spent thousands of dollars on tests and medications and almost lost my job. Became unable to drive or to cope with everyday activities. Discontinued use of Flonase after discussion with therapist and symptoms have almost totally resolved. Worst experience of my life. I will be much more cautious when prescribed and medication in the future. F 43 6 months

1  Seasonal Allergies May - July Physically and mentally healthy female. Insomnia in the form of interrupted sleep and altered mental state. I awoke at approximately 2AM on a Sunday in morning, in a hyper/manic state/mood, and convinced that I had a meeting to attend at work at 5AM (no meeting was scheduled for that day or week). "Knowing" that I had more than enough time before the meeting I determined that I could get my week's grocery shopping done prior to the meeting. I took a shower, dried my hair, applied make-up, ironed a blouse and pants, made a list, clipped coupons, went to the store and purchased a cartload of groceries - all before 4:30AM. Only after I'd loaded my purchases into my vehicle and sat in the driver's seat did I even begin to "come down" and consider that something was wrong and that I should not show up for the "meeting". I never experienced this symptom before my first or since my last dose of Flonase. Great for time management but altogether very frighte At the time of this effect I was prescribed and taking Flonase (1X daily at bedtime) and Claritin-D. The described effect occurred after using Flonase approximately 5 nights in a row. Mild symptom: awful taste of hyacinth. F 37 5 days

1  Allergies Extreme migranes. Overall, it worked to clear up my nasal passages, but left me with awful migrane headaches after using it a couple weeks. Started out great, and now I get migranes. The headaches went away after discontinuing use. M 22 2 weeks

1  Eustachian Tube Problems nausea, abdominal pain, maybe contributed to hair loss I noticed no changes in my eustachian tubes. Noticed hair loss after 2 months of use. Nausea after a couple weeks. After ending use, nausea and abdominal pain disappeared. Going to dermatologist for hair loss to see if it's hereditary MPB or the flonase. M 29 3 months

1  sinus congestion heart racing, palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks, painfully dry nasal passages interesting that this is considered topical, therefore significant amounts do not get in the bloodstream. But how else do things enter the bloodstream (other than wounds) than via mucous membranes? A lot more of it gets in the bloodstream than it seems the medical community cares to admit. M 42 30 days
