1  Allergies, inflamed sinus & throat Blurry vision, numbness in arms and right leg, nausea, vertigo, difficulty breathing, muscle aches, fatigue, chills, night sweats, vivid nightmares I've taken Flonase twice in the past couple of years with my last experience landing me in the ER, here's my story: I was prescribed Flonase a few years ago (when I was 24) and used it to help relieve my allergies that were affecting breathing through my nose. After about 1 month of use (100mcg *50mcg in each nostril once a day) I experienced a very bad reaction and had a fever for 3 weeks, body sweats at random hours of the day and vivid nightmares. During that episode, I stopped cold turkey as I was bed ridden the entire time. Luckily I was in college at that time and was able to stay at home for those 3 weeks. I complained to the doctor that prescribed me the medication, but he didn't recognize any connection between flonase and my symptoms. Fast forward to less than a year later and I was diagnosed with Tuberculosis after a lengthy investigation by several doctors and specialists that were all wondering why I was coughing up blood. I'm not saying that Flonase directly caused Tuberculosis (although it has been noted in their findings online that only elderly patients *50+ developed Tuberculosis as a result of taking Flonase) but if I did have latent Tuberculosis, I wonder if Flonase lowered my immune system enough to cause the latent Tuberculosis to become active. Now a year after treatment for tuberculosis, I went to see another doctor to get a referral to go back to the TB clinic for them to test if I still had TB ( they will only see you again if you have a doc M 26 2 weeks

3  nasal polyps DAY 2 cant rate yet... I WANT TO ADD... PLEASE DONT READ ALL SCAREY COMMENTS AND GET WORRIED.. I was on oral steroids up to 60 mg for two years for asthma. Plus other drugs some of which had horrendous reviews.. I am a christian so I prayed a lot. Yes I had a few problems whilst taking them but I had to take them and now I am fully recovered. Now starting flonaise drops for nasal polyps . Reading these comments made me not want to take them but so did all the comments about any drug I am or have been on. I know all drugs have side effects. I have experinced side effects too at times.. But anyone starting these....Please realise. . We are all very different our bodies are different and most importantly many people are fine after taking these drugs. Everthing has some side effects which mostly you recover from absolutely fine. Its so important not to read negative comments until you have given the medicine a go and if there is a problem talk to a pharmacist or doctor. I am a nurse and very grateful the drugs I needed were available to me. F 43 2 days

1  ear infection Vision loss in one eye (cotton wool spot / ischemia of retina), floaters, severe nasal congestion, developed sleep apena from inability to breath at night from the severe nasal congestion. Never had problems with congestion before. Still suffering the effects of this drug. Doctor didn't believe this caused the cotton wool spot but after two eye angiograms they had no answers. No high blood pressure or diabetes so the retina specialist was stumped but didn't believe it was flonase. F 39 3 days

2   Ever since I drank too much one night on the meds, they have ceased to provide any real, lasting relief. Don't even know if I can blame that one night, but it started since then, along with the harsh side effects of headaches, increase in sinus pressure/mucus production, eye pains, a raise in anxiety/possible increase in blood pressure (it felt like my heart was racing a bit, but my pulse was generally fine) and cold chills randomly throughout the day (with a few nights of them plaguing me to the point I couldn't sleep). Mind this information: I have not seen a doctor about these negative reactions, because I've just moved, and feel I may have other underlying physical health issues, but to dismiss the other experiences here as cases of "sensitivity" and "uncertain mental health issues" is to deny acknowledgement of the many cases to the contrary.  3  allergies heart palpitations, bloody mucus, shaking hands, occasional cough The spray worked great for the nasal and sinus swelling. I took it in addition to the Claritin and Mucinex I take daily for my severe allergies. The heart palpitations are too worrisome to continue with current dosage. My hands shaking uncontrollably had me worried until I read others also had this as a side effect of flonase. It has only happened once so it wasn't a huge concern. The bloody mucus was not a big problem, either. The cough was not something I want to live with. I will take flonase only when my allergy symptoms become unbearable. F 45 10 days

2  Fluid in ear, Vertigo Flonase has been good & bad for me... Well, it all started when I had fluid in my right ear along with ear pain. Then the Vertigo set it and I couldn't function anymore. Which is where flonase came in.. I used it twice a day and all I have to say is that its VERY STRONG. My Vertigo went away however I don't know if it was time or the Flonase. I had anxiety as in I felt like my throat was closing and couldn't catch my breath. I had CHEST pain and Severe dry mouth, throat, & tongue. No matter how much I drank my mouth is still incredibly dry! I stopped at 7 days because it was killing me. This medication just shows that only take it if absolutely necessary. It's not worth the side effects! I hate this drug and 2 days after stopping it I'm still having occasional chest pain and anxiety shortness of breath, along with dry mouth! Although VERTIGO is now gone! I don't think i should of taken it so long 3 days would of been enough! F 26 7 days

1  Sinus congestion, vertigo Insomnia, extreme fatigue, lethargy, pain in eyes, watery eyes, anxiety, arrhythmia, pain in left arm and shoulder, bouts of depression, edginess, unpleasant dreams, muscle tension, possible increase in dizziness and vertigo I began taking Flonase for vertigo which my doctor thought could be caused by pressure on my inner ear due to a sinus condition. I noticed no discernible improvement in any of my symptoms but continued taking it anyway, hoping that they would improve over time. I did not make the connection between the side effects and the nasal spray right away, because I thought they were side effects of the vertigo I was treating. After the anxiety, eye pain, insomnia and fatigue reached a certain point, however, I began to suspect that something more was afoot. It has been almost two weeks now since I've been able to get more than 3 hours of sleep at night. My vertigo and dizziness has grown worse, especially increasing in the last week or so. When I woke fully after only an hour's sleep last night, completely exhausted yet unable to sleep, it dawned on me that Flonase is a steroid and I began to wonder if it was behind my problems. I got online this morning and looked into it only to find that not only can it cause all the symptoms I was suffering, but it could possibly even be making my vertigo worse than it was in the first place. I won't be taking it again. To summarize, not only did it not discernibly help improve my sinus congestion, but it appears to have increased the symptoms for which I was taking it in the first place, along with adding a slew of new problems to worry about. Use with caution and monitor for side effects. M 42 15 days

4  Allergy induced asthma Granted my year round allergies get worse as season changes, and Flonase helps with the need of ripping my nose off. It is effective, best used when you wake up. Side effects noticed, dry mouth need to make sure you keep hydrated and the take of metal all day from the minute I spray my nose. It's not as bad when I wake up, before my dosage. The metal taste is annoying, and can taste really strong but is ok if it helps my nose. F 34 1 months

1  allergy induced asthma extreme high blood pressure, pain in head and neck, floaters, wild dreams This was my wonder drug until I realized it was going to cause me to have a stroke. I went to ER with blood pressure of 204/113 once the flonase was out of my system my blood pressure dropped to normal but my asthma was back within 24 hours. Most doctors don't believe you can have a sensitivity to a Corticosteroid. This drug is not for me and if you go on it monitor your bp and other different things your body tells you about something being wrong. F 65 6 months

2  Rinitis Dizziness, blurred vision, vertigo, nose bleeds Worked great to fix my allergies and stuffed up nose. After a few months of use I developed nose bleeds. Then after a little more then a year I experienced blurred vision, vertigo and lack of balance. I continued use for 6 months with these symptoms not realizing that flonase was the cause. I stopped and slowly my allergies returned and the side effects withdrew. It had taken a good 4 months of being off to be about 80% better as far dizziness, vertigo was instantly gone. Use at own risk, I'm going for immunotherapy instead as it is a permanent solution. M 45 2 years

2  Stuffy nose/snoring Extreme emotional behavior, agression, excessive hunger Our 5 yr old's behavior became unbearable while on Flonase. She was only on 1 spray per nostril 1x/day, but I guess at such a young age (and small size - she is very petite) it was too much for her body. She has always been our more "challenging" child, but the behavior on this med. was severely escalated - she would hit and throw things, which she never did before. I realized as I was telling someone about her behavior that it had been occurring for the same amount of time she was on the drug. We stopped it and she has gone back to being more like herself. We're still dealing with her being stuffy and grinding her teeth at night, therefore not getting quality sleep, so things are not perfect, but I will not put her back on Flonase. It was like her little spirit had been replaced by one she had no control over and it made for an unhappy household. I'm not sure how much it helped anyway; it didn't completely solve the breathing issues. I had to do a lot of research to find anywhere this reaction was documented. Turns out it was studied...in the Netherlands...and found to be more prevalent among children. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22748370# We will be reporting our daughter's reaction to the FDA. http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/HowToReport/ucm053074.htm I would encourage anyone who has seen a similar reaction in their child to do the same. According to the article above, it seems they need more reports to "justify" more studies. F 5.5 3 months

2  Severe sinus congestion Painful and bleeding ulcers in my nose and sinus cavities. Have used Flonase on and off for years but this is the FIRST time I've ever had a problem with it. This is a different generic version than what I usually get so that might be the problem but these ulcers are so painful it hurts to breathe.... even though I finally can. F 42 2 months
