RATING | REASON | SIDE EFFECTS FOR FLONASE | COMMENTS | SEX | AGE | DURATION/ DOSAGE | DATE ADDED |
1 | Chronic Sinusitis | Insomnia, Itchy rash on my chest, irritability, blurry vision, headache, trouble swallowing. | Wow! Not worth the horrifying side affects. | M | 2 days | 10/15/2008 | 4 | deep racking cough-post radiation | Dry mouth-slight dizziness sometimes | 2 puffs AM but they seem to wear off within 12 hours and cough returns. Would like to up dosage but these comments are scary. | M | 63 | 1 months | 10/14/2008 | 1 | Sinus infections | Headaches/migraines, "sticky" feeling in nose, weight gain, irritability, insomnia, nausea, nose bleeds, decreased sense of smell | This medicine seemed perfect at first because it cut down on my sinus infections, but the side effects just aren't worth it. I don't generally have trouble falling asleep, but am unable to stay asleep. I am wide-awake at odd hours of the night for no reason. The doctor that prescribed it told me there were little or no side effects (chance of nosebleeds). I am trying to wean myself off of it right now and am experiencing increased levels of the side effects I get when I take it: nausea and migraines to name a few. Its definitely going in the trash! | F | 29 | 7 months | 10/1/2008 | 4 | Nightly congestion | I had no effects at first other than almost immeadiate relief of nasal conjection. However, I have begun gaining weight very rapidly and had no change in food intake. I did not make the correlation to the medication, but after reading some of these comments, I am beginning to think there may be a connection. I am also getting headaches fairly regularly on my right side. I get a runny nose a lot. Finally, I did notice some mood swings in the last few months, but attributed it to being perimenopausal, but who knows... After reading some of the comments, I am now thinking that I should not be taking this everyday and maybe will stop altogether. I'm anxiousd about the stuffy nost returnings because I have been able to sleep so much better without congestion. | F | 48 | 5 months | 9/29/2008 | 4 | Year round allergies | Very bad rash, dry eyes, conjunctivitis, loss of memory | When I began taking Flonase I was taking it daily and broke out in a really bad rash on my chest and under my arms (itching and oozing). However, I now take it every 5 days and it works very well. The memory loss happened at the same time I began Flonase, but I'm also hitting that age when menopause happens so I don't want to blame memory loss on the drug. I think my fatigue is also a part of getting older and probably not Flonase. | F | 49 | 2 years | 9/23/2008 | 1 | sinus infection | Blurred vision, mood swings, anxiety, paranoia, fatigue. Medication insert mentioned the blurred vision, but nothing about the feelings I was having. I couldn't believe it was the nasal spray causing all this, but I stopped it a few days ago and now I am starting to feel so much better, back to my old self. The only other medication I was taking was Claritan and that never bothered in the past. | Did help with the nasal congestion. | F | 47 | 2 weeks | 9/10/2008 | 5 | Recommended by physician | I haven't experienced any side affects so far. | This was recommended by physician - I was using sinus rinse to clear out my sinuses but found it to be messy, and my nose would suddenly leak of solution while i was at the gym. During a visit to my doctor she recommended I use flonase; at first I was skeptical about it and hesitated to even buy it. But now i'm glad i purchased it. As soon as I feel my nose is congested, i give my nose 2 sprays in each nostril, and blow my nose. Wolla, congestion is all gone. It works fast, it's simple to use and I haven't found any side affects with it. I would definitely recommend it. | M | 25 | 3 months | 9/2/2008 | 2 | Blocked ET Tubes / Chronic Sinusiti | No side effects really other than inital nasal dryness and spotted bleeding. | Had no effect on my blocked ears at all. The only thing that seems to work half decently for the Chronic Sinus issue is the NeilMed sinus rinses. | M | 39 | 1 years | 9/2/2008 | 3 | sinus infection | sleeplessness, palpitations, anxiety, chest pains, hard to get back to sleep, poor sleep episodes (no longer then an hour and a half in length), headaches, racing heart beat, nightmares | Stop taking because I was giving another medication. | M | 22 | 5 days | 8/23/2008 | 1 | allergies | extreme fatigue, total loss of energy every time I take it | 5 days | 8/16/2008 | 2 | allergic nasal problems | The main side effect was sleeplessness. The doctors say that is impossible, but I cannot sleep when I take the drug. I don't take it I can sleep, simple. | It works pretty well for keeping the nasal congestion suppressed, but I can't deal with not being able to sleep. | M | 53 | 3 months | 8/13/2008 | 5 | rhinitis | No noted side effects other then dry nose. | Flonase has been a tremendous miracle drug for me. I was never able to breathe from my nose........Flonase opened up my nasal passages. I have noticed that if I use the two squirts in each nostral once a day advice.......my nose dries out. I use one puff in each nostral every other day and it keeps me cleared up. | M | 45 | 10 years | 7/7/2008 | 2 | allergic rhinitis | thicker mucus at back of nose/throat causing persistant annoying cough, especially at night. Eye pain in left eye, extremely weepy. Decreased vision. | Just realized that these symptoms might be connected to the Flonase. I'm going to ween myself off of it now. | F | 51 | 9 months | 6/14/2008 | 2 | Severe allergies | I began to get bad headaches and waking up at night around the same time each morning hours prior to my alarm going off. I experienced small amounts of blood while blowing my nose. I take cough medicine with codine and suspect the Flonase is cancelling the effects of codine. | I have only been taking the drug daily since May 9, 2008. I was told that I have severe allergies for the first time in my life. My doctor told me to do a nasal wash, Flonase once a day after the nasal wash, Clartin, Albuerol inhaler as needed for coughing, Ipratropim Bromide nasal spray and cough syrup with codine for coughing. My symtoms began with a sore throat, followed by dry cough (where I was peeing), followed by loss of voice, congested all the time, and eyes, teeth and ears had pain from all the congestion. I am very healthy besides the allergies. I work out at the gym four days a week. I bike, power walk and do other outside sports. This has been a major life style bummer. After reading the other reviews I will stop the Flonase.I do not like taking mediciations for long durations. My doctor gave a refill for 6 additional bottles of Flonase. I will not be refilling this prescription. Now I will jump on the scale to see if I have gained weight.. ugh! | F | 50 | 33 days | 6/12/2008 | 2 | Dry mouth | Runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, congestion. | For some unexplained reason, my doctor seemed to think my unexplained dry mouth was caused by congestion or sinus problems/allergies. She discovered excess fluid in my ears, which I could hear as a "staticky" sound every time I moved my head. This spray did not do anything to help my dry mouth, probably because the problem was not with the sinuses to begin with. I am prone to allergies during certain weather conditions (Santa Ana winds) or seasons (spring), but I did not feel any allergies when this dry mouth came on. All I got from this was cold/flu like symptons in my sinuses which I did not have before or did not need. When this didn't work, she had me try a saline rinse, which did not work either. The dry mouth eventually got better on its own. The funny sound in my ears also disappeared around the same time. I also tested negative for auto-immune disorders after seeing an ENT specialist when my GP could not figure out the cause. Go figure.... | F | 46 | 1 weeks | 6/5/2008 | 4 | Hayfever | None | M | 35 | 4 years | 5/24/2008 | 2 | Seasonal Allergies | After taking this drug for a couple of days, I broke out in hives and my tongue got swollen. The doctor thought that I was allergic to the fragrance that is added to the medicine but this has not been confirmed. | F | 27 | 2 days | 5/4/2008 | 1 | nasal congestion/allergies | Major weight gain, septum started bleeding, headaches, anxiety | I took Flonase for about 4 months. The first week or two was ok, but then I noticed my nasal passages and septum were extremely irritated and bleeding. I also started to gain weight fast. I probably gained a total of 30 lbs the short time I was on this drug. My heart would randomly feel weird too... like it was skipping beats -- anxiousness? I don't know. I am so glad to be off this medicine. If anyone else experienced major weight gain, I'd like to talk with you... I am still trying to drop the weight and don't know what to do... (email is on the right) | 23 | 4 months | 4/14/2008 | 5 | allergies | dry mouth, bad taste | It helps when my allergies are acting up severely. I am using it as needed. | F | 36 | 8 years | 4/1/2008 | 5 | Chronic allergic rhinitis | 1 puff/ea nostril daily year round for 10 yrs: * Weight gain 6.3%. * Daily bloody nasal scabs, deviated septum unable to heal. * Mild joint soreness and stiffness * Severe acid reflux. (associated? Reflux stopped w/i 3 months after taking Flonase.) * Occasional acne (at 41=> 51) * Erectile dysfunction developed over several years. | * Quite effective at reducing nasal mucous secretions. Significantly reduced minor colds. Replaced by NasalCrom w very good results and elimination of side effects over 6 months. * Wt gain 205=> 218 w/i first few months of starting Flonase. Wt loss of equal amount w/i 6 months of stopping after 10 yrs use. * Mile swim times increased 6.5% over 5 months after stopping. * Frequent small white secretions on tonsils that appeared after starting Flonase and largely left after stopping.
