| 1 | ear infection | Vision loss in one eye (cotton wool spot / ischemia of retina), floaters, severe nasal congestion, developed sleep apena from inability to breath at night from the severe nasal congestion. Never had problems with congestion before. | Still suffering the effects of this drug. Doctor didn't believe this caused the cotton wool spot but after two eye angiograms they had no answers. Well, it all started when I had fluid in my right ear along with ear pain. Then the Vertigo set it and I couldn't function anymore. Which is where flonase came in.. I used it twice a day and all I have to say is that its VERY STRONG. My Vertigo went away however I don't know if it was time or the Flonase. I had anxiety as in I felt like my throat was closing and couldn't catch my breath. I had CHEST pain and Severe dry mouth, throat, & tongue. No matter how much I drank my mouth is still incredibly dry! I stopped at 7 days because it was killing me. This medication just shows that only take it if absolutely necessary. It's not worth the side effects! I hate this drug and 2 days after stopping it I'm still having occasional chest pain and anxiety shortness of breath, along with dry mouth! Although VERTIGO is now gone! I did not make the connection between the side effects and the nasal spray right away, because I thought they were side effects of the vertigo I was treating. After the anxiety, eye pain, insomnia and fatigue reached a certain point, however, I began to suspect that something more was afoot. It has been almost two weeks now since I've been able to get more than 3 hours of sleep at night. My vertigo and dizziness has grown worse, especially increasing in the last week or so. When I woke fully after only an hour's sleep last night, completely exhausted yet unable to sleep, it dawned on me that Flonase is a steroid and I began to wonder if it was behind my problems. I got online this morning and looked into it only to find that not only can it cause all the symptoms I was suffering, but it could possibly even be making my vertigo worse than it was in the first place. I won't be taking it again. To summarize, not only did it not discernibly help improve my sinus congestion, but it appears to have increased the symptoms for which I was taking it in the first place, along with adding a slew of new problems to worry about. It is effective, best used when you wake up. Side effects noticed, dry mouth need to make sure you keep hydrated and the take of metal all day from the minute I spray my nose. It's not as bad when I wake up, before my dosage. Most doctors don't believe you can have a sensitivity to a Corticosteroid. It had taken a good 4 months of being off to be about 80% better as far dizziness, vertigo was instantly gone. She was only on 1 spray per nostril 1x/day, but I guess at such a young age (and small size - she is very petite) it was too much for her body. She has always been our more "challenging" child, but the behavior on this med. was severely escalated - she would hit and throw things, which she never did before. I realized as I was telling someone about her behavior that it had been occurring for the same amount of time she was on the drug. We stopped it and she has gone back to being more like herself. We're still dealing with her being stuffy and grinding her teeth at night, therefore not getting quality sleep, so things are not perfect, but I will not put her back on Flonase. It was like her little spirit had been replaced by one she had no control over and it made for an unhappy household. I'm not sure how much it helped anyway; it didn't completely solve the breathing issues. I had to do a lot of research to find anywhere this reaction was documented. This medicine has helped to the point of almost curing it! Those who blame this for all kinds of issues, must be extremely sensitive to it, or needing to blame their medical issues on something. Dry nasal passage is minor, and sleep loss fixed by changing the dosage time. Simple and effective, and I detest meds, period! As a kidney/pancreas transplant recipient many meds will conflict with the anti-rejection meds I am required to take. My specialist in transplant says this will be the only real option, as Benedryl makes me too groggy all day. 4+ years after transplant this has stopped all my allergies, and no major side effects except as the minor ones noted!
