2  Nasal polyps; deviated septum extreme anxiety; muscle tightness; jitters; suicidal thoughts; insomnia So I had initially started Zetonna (another corticosteroid) for my sinuses in preparation for an upcoming surgery (which was delayed a bit longer than a month... wish I hadn't delayed it) and I almost IMMEDIATELY started to get anxiety. I just chalked it up to stress from work and variou slife changes. My insurance switched me over to Flonase for money reasons, and I dutifully switched over. The drug is effective -- my sinus symptoms have been virtually nonexistent since I started the drug. However, I've recently found that I have episcleritis, and was prescribed topical prednisone for my eyes. After taking my first few doses, it felt like the anxiety that I had been experiencing was multiplied by 100; then I suddenly realized: my anxiety really all began when I started the nasal steroids! After a quick google and finding this site, I'll be immediately throwing this garbage out and never using it again. I'd honestly rather be in facial pain then feel like I'm about to jump out of my skin and/or lose my mind. Keep in mind that I'm very sensitive to medications, typically, but definitely be cautious and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY before you use any medication for an extended time. M 27 3 months

1  Sore Throat/Supposed Allergy Bloody nose the second day. Why I continued is beyond me. I don't even have allergies. I also started with anxiety and fear that I have never experienced. And it continues. My life is not the same and neither am I. I urge those who are given this drug to ask why and think about the risks. My life has been a living hell since I took this drug and I know I did not need it. I don't know why I didn't just use something else for my throat, I was misdiagnosed at an urgent care and my biggest mistake was continuing the drug and not calling the Urgent Care doctor. I now have floaters, loss of visual acuity which I will be checking on as well as needing to see a Retinal Specialist in January. I am on anti-depressants and anxiety medications which cause other lovely side effects to your body. I was a healthy, happy 54 year old on April 20th, 2012. I will forever regret the day I went to that clinic. I know I am responsible for not following up or calling a pharmacist or the doctor about the first sign of trouble, but still, this drug is extremely dangerous and should be very carefully given out to patients only if they really need it. I also ended up in ER 3 times, all the time not know what was wrong and completely losing my mind. Hopefully, I will not lose my sight as well. I feel I am paying for some Karma or something else I have done in the past to have this happen. It hurt me, it hurt my family, it hurt my friends and I almost lost my job. So, please do NOT take this drug unless under a good doctor's care and constant watch for side effects and other issues. I wouldn't wish this nightmare on my worst enemy. An interesting story on steroids from Jane Pauley is on Google. Look it F 54 5 weeks

1  Allergies It helped with the allergy. However, I immediately felt like a completely different person and had bizarre, anxious thoughts. Thankfully, I only took two doses before I realized this was related, and I stopped immediately. I also had colorful nightmares for a few nights, and I had an intense feeling of anxiety (I have no history of anxiety or bizarre moods). Two days after I took it, my nose began to expel large blood clots. The effect on my mindstate was completely new and completely unacceptable. I would not take this medication again. I recommend that anyone taking this pay close attention to their mental state. F 38 1 days

1  Severe allergies Terrible anxiety, nervousness, dizziness, migraines, episodes of blurry vision. Also, had some blood after blowing nose. I've taken flonase for roughly the past year and a half. Initially, it was a miracle drug as it prevented my constant sneezing and blowing of my nose. But I guess the onset of symptoms was slow for me. A month or so after, I would sometimes feel nervous for no reason. But it was so infrequent and mild, I didn't pay it any mind. Then I started to have mild panic attacks but never attributed it to the flonase because it was months after I started taking it. Then I started getting them often and felt extremely nervous most of the time for really no discernible reason. Sometimes, it would pass and I would feel so happy to just feel like myself. I never had any kind of mental illness in my life so I went to the Dr, he said I am having panic attacks and he gave me some anti anxiety meds, which help with the symptoms but not the cause. It got to the point where I was being crippled with anxiety almost everyday. A week or so ago, I took my daily 4 sprays then went into my living room and started a convo with my roommate and had a severe episode. This made me realize the connection. So I stopped taking the spray and the episodes started to subside immediately. It's been almost 2 weeks since I've taken it...I still feel anxiety sometimes just not nearly as severe and not constantly. I also noticed that at times I would have blurry vision. I chalked it up to just getting older (I'm 30) although I used to have perfect 20/20 vision. I would also experience a dizzy or heavy feeling M 30 18 months

4  Chronic allergic rhinitis Thought I'd share my positive experience due to so many negative reviews. I've been taking Flonase for 3 months. 2 sprays in each nostril once or twice a day. It's really helped clear my sinuses and help me breathe. Only side effects are some post nasal drip, slight rebound effect if I use it too much. I suspect people w anxiety/depression, etc have other underlying issues, but hey everyone is different M 29 3 months

1  Pulsating in right ear Tightening in chest and chest pain, severe anxiety , dizziness to the point where I almost fainted, crying spells. Panic attacks, insomnia, shortness of breathe I was rushed to the ER because of severe chest pains! Do not take this medicine!! I have been off it for a day now but still have the anxiety that hopefully will pass. I have no history of health problems so this was very scary! F 30 1 weeks

1  Sinus It put a HOLE inside my NOSE! It works. I only used it when I needed it, that was probably 1-3 times a month, if that. Sometimes not at all. I just can't believe that it ate through the inside my nose. For me the world has come to an END! F 52 1 days

1  Sinus infection, Allergies Anxiety, panic attacks, headaches, nosebleeds, high blood pressure, burning in mouth, throat and nasal passages, loss of smell and taste. After all the side effects I still had sneezing, itchy nose and runny nose. Worked for the first few days, then stopped and made me feel crazy. Doctor told me it was just anxiety and prescribed an anti-depressant. Symptoms didn't stop until after I stopped taking the flonase. I am still having sinus pressure, but i'd rather just try to live with it. F 34 20 days

1  Nasal allergies Palpitations, anxiety, increase in BP, nasal perforation, headache I WOULD NEVER use a nasal steroid again! It does more harm than good and i am feeling tons better since i am off it. Go to the beach(or get a netipot) and let the natural salt water do its job where sinus and allergies are concerned. The people inventing these drugs should do a self test before putting others on it. F 36 3 weeks

3  inflamed nostrils Nausea, headache, stomach ache, severe fatigue, lethargy, moderate insomnia, backache. Side effects were random, but pronounced. Some days were fine, others were downright awful. Even reducing the dose to one spray per nostril per day didn't ward off side effects. The medicine did work, and perhaps my system would better tolerate it after a few months, but it's too difficult to work each day on only a couple of hours of sleep, especially when all the other side effects would be strong. The severity of the effects varied each day. Most days were mild, but many were too severe to justify using the drug on a regular basis. M 57 3 weeks

1  Allergies Anxiety Chest tightness Shortness of breath Crying arm pit, back and shoulder pain. I took the Kirkland/Costco Claritan equivalent in conjunction with Flonase for approx 2 months and it helped with my allergies for sure. After one month I noticed a little wheezing and had a chest xray done at my annual physical that was normal After bout 1 1/2 months the side effects really kicked in and I had chest tightness, shortness of breath, unknow origin crying spells and anxiety. It scared the hell out of me and I ended up going to a cardiologist because I thought I was having a heart attack. All the tests were normal. I went to 2 cardiologists and neither of them paid much attention to me putting down using Claritin in my medicine history. On my own I decided to discontinue the medications and my symptoms for the most part have subsided within 4 days. I still feel slightly anxious today on day four after stopping the meds and a little dizzy, however I feel I will be back to baseline with a few days to a week. This website helped me realize I wasn't dying and it was a serious bad reaction to an allegedly safe drug. If you take Claritin, pay close attention to the side effects and if you feel them coming on slightly, stop taking it immediately. My wife takes the medication for approx 6 months with no issues.  1  Chronic sinus problems Lose of smell. Terrible couch and wheezing like I have never felt! Stay away from the flonase! I hope I return to preflonase days! 4 days since I quit and counting....  1  Nasal allergies Extreme anxiety attaks, unable to take a deep breath, burning skin, and uncontrollable shaking I would not wish Flonase on my worst enemy. My first experience was about a week afterIi started it I was rushed to the hospital unable to breathe with an extreme panic attack, they kept me overnight and sent me to ta heart specialist for a stress test. The next event was about a week later and this time I went to my family Dr. who said their is now way it could be the Flonase and prescribed me nerve pills and antidepresants. i want to add that I am a very active healthy person and I have now been of the Flonase for 3 days and have stopped the other medication the Dr. prescribed. I am doing better everyday more people need to know about these horrid side effects. F 39
