1  Inflamed Sinuses, Post Nasal Drip Vision changes. For the first couple days of taking a generic version of Flonase, I noticed an increased number of floaters in my vision for about and hour. On the 4th day of taking the medication, I experienced a frightening change in vision that lasted for about 20 minutes. It was similar to an ocular migraine with vibrating pulses of light and movement. I also experienced a mild pressure headache. All of these symptoms happend within an hour of taking the medication.  1  allergies I have taken it for 2 years. I decided to check other consumer ratings for this drug. I have been suffering from headaches, sinus tenderness, fatigue, heart flutterings. I am going to discontinue using and see if I feel better. I am at the height of allergy season...but I am concerned this spray is causing more harm than good. F 57 2 years

1  stuffed nose I could never really pinpoint why I had dreams that made me anxious or angry or making my blood pressure rise until I realized the connection between using Flonase (as the doctor ordered) and not. I stopped using it for a while (when the allergy season subsided here. The symptoms went away and I found myself getting a good night's sleep. I went back to it now that the allergy season is starting and immediately experienced the same reaction. I think it influences sleep patterns/feelings of anxiety. F 68 7 years

1  Sinus infection Alteration of sense of smell and taste Will never spray steroids into my nose again, not worth the risk F 40 2 days

1  Sinusitis Rhinitis Nosebleeds for a week or so at start of treatment, metallic taste in mouth, gradual, near total loss of sense of smell that took months after discontinuation to completely return. Helped clear nasal passages somewhat but not exceptionally effective. Definitly not enough to make it worth the side effects. Losing my sense of smell and the doctor not being able to tell me if I could expect it to come back was extremely traumatic. I don't understand why that isn't even listed as a potential side effect when clearly several othr people have had the same experience. F 35 30 days

3  Allergic Rhinitis Significant reduction of smell and taste. I tried it 7 years ago and quit because of these side effects. I'm a very smell/taste oriented person and I don't want to give it up significantly. BUT for the first time in a long long time I can breathe without a lot of obstruction. My nostrils feel clear, I don' t have to sniffle or make weird faces as if I had a tick, just to breathe through my nose! It's kind of like the lesser of two evils. I love to taste/smell (senses that weren't damaged by my allergies) but I hate having rhinitis. I am probably going to try it for a few more weeks and not get so discouraged today. If it persists, I will try accupuncture, which sounds healthier than steroids anyways. F 39 2 days

1  chronic sinunitis I first took this medication when I was about 10. I would wake up in the middle of the night with heart palpatations, and severe anxiousness. My mother out of concern of course, phoned my Doctor. She said that it was definately not the flonase causing it. After reading all of this, I beg to differ. I stopped taking it, and all of those effects stopped. Now I am 24, and I devoloped a nasty cold, which of course led to an overgrowth of bacteria in my sinuses. So my doctor (different doctor) gave me an antibiotic and flonase. I have been taking it for a couple of days now, and I feel exactly like I did over 10 years ago. I completely had forgotten my first experience with this drug. So I wasn't expecting, or anticipating any effects. So here I am at 2:45 a.m. with all my apartments lights on (I am scared, I know how silly that sounds) lol, completely awake, super anxious, after waking up from a crazy ass nightmare. I am not going to be taking this ever again. They need to redo the s F 24 2 days

2  sinus congestion and allergies I was great for the allergy and sinus symtoms, completely eliminated them after the first use. Side effects where terrible. I had been taking it for about 2 months o problem, when all of a sudden i get a canker sore or mouth sore. Nothing to worry about since iv'e had them before very ocassionaly. It grew and grew and became deep and extremely painful. 2 days later another one came out and after a few days i had 5 of them in my mouth. The worst experience of my life. Finally after a month of different doctors and treatments valtrex and a magic mouth wash did the trick. I realized i had been taking flonase throughout the entire period and its know to lower ur bodies inmune system therfore probably causing that. 10 days after this ig et the shingles in my neck. Although the shingles wasn't as bad as the sores, it still terrible and lasted about 2 weeks. I am a very healthy 31 YO Athlete, who eats correclty drinks water all day and exercises on a daily basis. My inmune system M 31 3 months

5  Allergies, Sinusitis None I really can't imagine how it is possible for Flonase to cause all of these side effects I am reading about. It is a corticosteroid that is only locally absorbed if you use it correctly. I take it for about 2 weeks twice a year when my allergies are typically at their worst. Not a 100% cure, but has made a huge difference for me. M 47 2 weeks

2  nasal congestion I started Vancenase 20 years ago and switched to flonase when it came out. It did help with allergic rhinitis but, any cold would turn into a full blown sinusitis. I had a chronic ulceration on my lower lip for about the same time, which I thought was coincidence. I had a chronic maxillary sinusitis which resisted all attempts to treat. I switched to nasalchrom and stopped the use of Flonase. After about 1 month the chronic ulceration on the lower lip dissappeared (after 20 years). Sense of smell returned. Maxillary sinusitis cleared up. Still a little stuffy. Nasalchrom not as effective. M 56 10 years

2  Rhinosinusitis / Chest Congestion I feel disconnected, no taste no smell, dizzy, disoriented at times, loss of concentration, irratibility, anxiety. I started taking Flonase ( generic equal) 5 days ago to battle a severe chest congestion and sinus drainage from my doctor. the drug cleared my sinuses well and helped with the congestion along with doxycycline. I have a weird metallic taste with everything now coffee, toast and peanut butter, jelly, everything taste real strange. Metalic, rusty flavored is how I explain it. I took my last does this morning and I an now discontinuing this therapy. I did not sleep well last night after 8 days therapy and it is starting to wear on me. I am sure it works for some not me. I do not like the feeling I am having or the way everything now tastes. Eating and drinking is a chore. Not what I was looking for or how long it is going to last after today. M 47 8 days

5  Allergies I have experienced no side effects. My sense of smell was gone a long time ago due to medications such as Otrivin I took Flounase for the first time about 7 years ago and it really was a magic bullet. I am symptom free of my allergies now. I have had none of the side effects that others write about such as weight gain, vertigo, nausea, etc. Very, very positive experience M 39 7 years

1  clogged ears horrible nausea, dizziness, vertigo and spinning sensation if I closed my eyes, headache, weight gain, feeling of dread, raised my blood pressure, anxiety This was the worst experience ever. I had a similar one last year, and was taking Flonase as prescribed by my doc @2 sprays, and had been taking it 9 days when I ended up in the ER w/terrible vertigo. I will never take this product again. Horrible! F 59 3 days

5  Nasal Congestion Nose bleeds. Possible weight gain but I was taking it with Flovent and Trinessa which could be the culprits. I started taking Flonase apx. 2 years ago and, for the first time in YEARS, I was able to breath out of both nostils. I have had allergies for the past 20 years, and have NEVER really been able to control them. I tried Claratin, Claratin D, Zyrtec, Neti pot, etc... I used to go through boxes and boxes of Klenex and now barely ever have to blow my nose. I honestly can't remember the last time I was able to breath out of both nostrils prior to taking Flonase. Now, after nearly 2 years, I've started getting nose bleeds so I'm laying off the Flonase for a while but will continue taking this drug as it has made a HUGE difference in my life. F 38 2 years

3  rhinitis Troubling lightheadedness; 5% body weight gain; loss of memory/confusion; nosebleeds; blurry vision. Very upsetting side effects - I have eliminated all other drugs so I have to pin them on Flonase, unless I have some underlying illness which I doubt. I am stopping Flonase - rather have a drippy nose. Who knew. F 58 5 months

1  Sinus infection Haven't slept since taking it once I'm on day 2 of no sleep, extreme anxiety, thought I was going crazy. Insomnia wasn't listed in the drug side effects pamphlet from pharmacy so I thought it was just me F 35 1 days

1  Sinus infection Bad lower back pain, anxiety DONT USE IT or STOP. Only used it a couple of times but right away had bad lower back pains. I also had bad anxiety. I was scared I had kidney failure or had really torn some muscles, but hadnt lifted anything heavy so it was baffling me. If your having bad lower back pain stop taking this stuff, drink water, rest, it will keep hurting for at least a week but will go away. The medicine itself did not help my breathing at all - 0%. Use mucinex or nyquil. Long hot showers also relieve congestion. Take a hot shower every night right before bed. M 29 3 days

4  To keep my sinuses open Twitchy eye and, later, twitches in my cheek and chin. When I stop taking it, they go away within a week. I had surgery on my sinuses and Flonase does seem to help keep them open. M 0 12 months
