LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

3  fibroid tumors Headache immediately after each injection, insomnia for the first couple of nights after each injection, but the worst was severe depression after the first and last injection (while coming off the drug). No hot flashes or night sweats, luckily. I had two fibroids, both about the size of a peach. After 6 mos. of injections, one shrunk and one grew. It has been two months since my last injection. I just spotted the month following, but am now experiencing pretty bad cramps during my first period while going into the second month. I had the feeling my first period after 6 mos. was going to be a dilly, since my body is trying to get back to normal. F 40 6 months

2  Endo, PCOS, fibroids I'm at day 8. Sleeplessnes. Irritability. Crying. Overwhelming sense of sadness. Temp Extremes. Anxiousness. Always hungry. Dizziness. Headaches. I was reluctant after everything I read, but we were at a standoff of hysterectomy or this. I still get the shooting cramps I had before, and the other symptoms seem too much to bear. I don't know if I can do it for another two shots. I am blogging my days at www.blogspot.diaryofadisease.com F 27 8 days

2  endometriosis hot flashes, can't sleep, weekly periods, drastic mood swings, severe cramping I wasn't aware of all the side effects that came with taking this shot, I am having my period once a week and my cramps, hip and back pain aren't any better, I can't sleep at night because it's impossible to get comfortable and because the level of estrogen in my body is up right now I am getting horrible headaches and vomiting. Before I only got really sick once or twice a month, now I'm sick everyday. F 22 1 months

1  endomerosis severe hot flashes, depression, change in behavir more aggressive. Sleeplesnees, blood clot, vision imparment, numbness in arms and legs. tingling in fingers/toes. I think that side effects are are not worth it. I would rather suffer with the endometriosis. It is not worth it! Why put yourself through these side effects? It will grow back after you stop. It is not a cure and the side effects will effect you more than you think. I'm 27 and have been struggling with endomertiosis for 10 years. I've had 3 surgeries and would rather deal with my everyday pain than deal with the side effects from depot lupron. F 27 3 days

4  Fibroid Tumor Hot Flashes, mood swings, irritability, night sweats, cold chills, loss of appetite, depression, memory loss. I am on the second shot out of three and I feel my symptoms are getting more intense. I take the last shot on Nov. 22nd and scheduled for surgery on Dec. 16th. The hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings are all increasing. It's 2:20 am as I post this message due to the insomnia. I don't even like myself because I can see and feel how I act but I can't control it. I can't wait until this is over. If you need the therapy I say do it. Just keep in mind that once your treatment is over you will be yourself again. It has stoped the growth of the fibroid, and taken away the abdominal bloating I had. My abdomin was getting so large I had to buy a bigger size. I also don't have the heavy feeling like I was carrying a bowling ball around. Those are the good points. I take an anti-depressant but these symptoms seem to over power the medication. F 34 2 months

3  FIBROIDS For the first month i experienced zero side effects. Except that my fibroid appeared to double in size! Nothing else changed until i was due for my first period following the shot. That day i began to experience severe cramping-- Persistent ache accented by sharp cramps lasting up to a minute and occuring every five minutes. This lasted a full eight days. This was followed by a normal period. other symptoms were insomia, night sweats, and a signficant decrease in appetite followed of course by weight loss. i think the fibroid is now starting to shrink but i won't be sure for a while.  2  Severe pelvic pain and adhesions Hot flashes; Atrophic Vaginitis; hair loss; low sex drive I consider this medicine 'toxic' so if needed, take for the shortest possible period.
