LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

I am about to embark on my first Kidney Cleanse and then Liver. Toxins in the body can be the result of many diseases. Include lots of fiber and flax seed meal in your diet to cleanse your colon and intestines. I am also taking Broccolive by New Chapter which helps reduce tumor and cyst growth (all it is is a bunch of broccoli). I am not a doctor so you should consult a holistic doctor or Nutritionist before starting anything. I try to flush my system with lots of water, kombucha tea, vitamins, minerals, and exercise.  5  prostate cancer Loss of libido. Diminished size of testicles. No hot flashes. No weight gain. No muscle weakness. Continued all excercise regimins of resistance and biking and started swimming lessons at 4 months into Lupron. I even increased the weights on resistance machines. After reading the comments of others, I was dreading starting Lupron/Depot but other than the two listed side effects, my life has continued exactly as before including all exercise programs which average about an hour a day. Also had 38 radiation treatments on Varian Associates Trilogy machine during this time. M 80 5 days

1  ENDOMETRIOSIS, 3 OVARIAN CYSTS In 2003, I underwent Exploratory Laparatomy for a 10 x 12 cm growth. It was an Endometrioma and I was diagnosed with Endometriosis. They removed my right ovary and fallopian tube. I also had superficial endometriosis on my left ovary at the time of surgery. Now 4 years later, I have three complex cysts on my left ovary. The largest measuring 4.6 cm. My Gynecologist immediately wanted to put me on Lupron Depot to shrink the cysts and buy me time. After only doing one week of research I have decided to go in for surgery for a hysterectomy. I also have Multiple Sclerosis (14 years) and cannot imagine adding more health problems to my life than what I already have. I also can't imagine dealing with the drastic psychological effects added to the current depression I already have and am being treated for with Zoloft( Zoloft has saved my life). I want to thank all of the people who have added their comments on this site. It has helped me make a good solid decision for myself that is best for For me, Lupron Depot didn't seem right from the very beginning. F 33 0 days

1  endometrious This has been the worst "roller coaster ride" of my life. I have bled for the whole time on this injection (except for 2 weeks).I was not made fully aware of all the side effects from my doctor. I can handle the hot flashes/night sweats, butt the emotional issues that go along with this injection is absolutely the WORST!!!! High anxiety, constant crying, withdrawling from crowds. I am typically a bubbly & out going individiual. This drug as totally changed my personality. The hopelessness &suicial thoughts are the worst. It has greatly affected my family life. All I want to do is stay at home & crawl in my "shell". Lupron has caused a lack of a sex drive. I am scared. I want to feel like my self again. I have taken 3 injections thus far & I am not continuing with the 4th. Would I reccommend this treatment? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I want my life back. It needs to be off the market... F 37 90 days

I have never had this problem before but now my eyes are itchy and water and the gland in my throat stay swollen most of the time I do get frequent headaches. So far the hot flashes havent been much but I am taking Prozac. My pain lightened up just after a week and i dot have much dicomfort except my period has never really ended its not much now more like spotting but on a everyday basis. I go back in june to find out if my endomitrioma is shrunk but if it hasnt i dont think i can afford to pay for this shot again. My is insurance is shit and i paid $1,685 for one shot!!!!! After reading others feedback on this drug I have decided maybe it would be good to take extra clacium maybe it will help from bone loss. F 30 3 weeks

4  Large uterine fibroid= pidaua Within 3 hours I had a mild headache and a bit of acne on my forehead, it was more like a heat rash than acne. The next morning I woke up with neck, back and joint pain, similar to the flu, and I was exhausted all day. Today I felt 100% better, my energy is normal, my body feels better and I don't have any tenderness around my midsection. I have a background in biotechnology/ diagnostics, so I did extensive research on this drug as well as the side effects of menopause. I am on a 3 month treatment program before surgery to have the fibroid removed so my husband and I can conceive. Before I had my first injection I started taking Calcium + Vitamin D, Vitamin B complex, Vit C and Magnesium. I also got back into my yoga (which was hard for me to do with the large fibroid making my abdomen so uncomfortable). I have had a loss of appetite, more of a "disinterest" in food and I sometimes feel a bit out of sorts, but all of it is worth getting the fibroid removed and the possibility of having a child. Another note, before taking Lupron, I didn't have any abnormal side effects such as bleeding or massive pain during my period. My body did feel like it was on a roller coaster of hormones, as my husband and I were trying to conceive but we didn't know that I had a fibroid (my midsection only felt tight during my peri F 37 2 days

2  pelvic pain w/no explination hot flashes, extreme irritability, crying spells, neck/back/hip pain, insomnia, night sweats, decreased sex drive, headaches, depression... over all feeling blah all the time. after years of chronic pelvic pain w/no explanation i was given the option to try lupron. i decided it was worth it to try but it did nothing to help my pain. i had severe bleeding for 6 weeks after the first injection. the hot flashes started up with the first few days and come at a rate of about 1-2 per hour. my body aches all the time, my head hurts, and i have NO energy to do anything. after 2 injections i, along with my dr. decided it would be best to stop treatment. some people swear by this drug and for others it's the devil. be sure you are prepared for all the side effects and know that this may not help your condition.  4  Fibroid Tumor and Enlarged Uterus I am usually a very happy go lucky person. First injection caused crying outbursts, daily headaches and loss of appetite. I had the worst period that I have had since I was probably 16 years old. Acne around the forhead seems to be a problem although I have never had that problem before. Second injection I no longer have the headaches but I am still very emotional. I feel like someone zapped all my energy and my mid section seems to be getting thick although I am eating far less and have no appetite. I had a minor hot flash yesterday for the first time and do not look forward to anymore. On the positive side my back pain has all but disappeared. I no longer get up in the middle of the night 3-4 times to go to the bathroom. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night until I got my first injection. I don't have to wear a pad everyday anymore worrying about leakage. I know the drug is working. I just hope I can hang on for the third. I do feel sorry for my husband who doesnt know what he's comming home to each day! F 48 2 days

5  severe endometriosis I've only had about 4 or 5 hot flashes in the 6 months I have been on Lupron, irritability, weight gain (about 2 or 3 pounds), but other than that, Lupron is great! I just had my 6th shot yesterday, and I cannot say enough good things about Lupron. My doctor is even prescribing another 6 month treatment because it has worked so well for me. I feel so bad for those women who have posted on here who have not had a good experience with it. I think it really depends upon each person and on how well their body adapts to it. I have been very blessed- I have had no pain, no period, and I honestly feel great. I think a lot of satisfaction with this medicine can also be based on what your doctor tells you. Lupron DOES NOT cure the endo, it just helps it to stop growing. Like I said before, I absolutely love this medicine, and honestly, the minor side effects are worth it to be able to have a chance of having chidlren in the future. F 18 6 months

1  endo hot flashes, extreme mood swings, no sex drive, weight gain, bone and joint pain, severe headaches, depression, fatigue, add back therapy heightened all of these, my skin crawled, thought I was going crazy STAY AWAY!! My life was turned upside down and inside out!!!! I would of rather had the endo pain. I was told my periods would return within 2 weeks after the 2nd 3month injection wore off and that getting pregnant would be a piece of cake, well I'm now going on my 10th week with no period,no pregnancy, and the pain is still there sometimes doubleing me over! So beware of false info as well. Also warn your Family and friends because they suffer just as much. F 27 6 months

1  Endo/painful cramping Multiple hotflashes daily/night sweats multiple times nightly causing restful sleep impossible. EXTREME neck and back muscular pain (and I do yoga every other day if not daily) as well as acne. I stopped this medication after only 2 shots (2 months) and 2 1/2 months later I am still having the same side effects and nothing about my body has returned to normal. On a positive note, it did stop my cramping though the long term side effects are not worth the short term for me. F 33 2 times

3  Endometrial ovarian cyst, fibroids HOT FLASHES!!! and in between hot flashes, feeling too warm, and then freezing. Anxiety, some depression; weight gain; Hot flashes wake me up about 4-5 times a night and anxiety makes it hard to get back to sleep - I am constantly sleep deprived, irritable and depressed. The only good thing about Lupron so far is I no longer have heavy periods with flooding! What a relief!! I have no periods at all in fact. However, my ovary still aches, so I'm not sure if any benefit is happening there yet (the cyst is supposed to reduce in size or go away), but I am supposed to be taking it for another 3 months, so maybe it's too soon. I'm starting to get used to the hot flashes, but I dread nights since sleeping is so difficult now. I can't wait until I am my old self again (minus heavy periods?). I hate this medication, so since I have to grin and bear it for the next 3 or more months, I hope it works! F 45 3 months

3  fibroids, heavy menstral cramping/b night sweats, increased appetite, joint pain (somewhat), increase appetite, weight gain (<5lbs) I am taking this to shrink fibroids and sch for a hyster in May 07. I have about 6 fibroids, my doc told me my uterus is the size of a 22 week pregnant woman. The first month was fine, about 4 weeks into the inj I had night sweats for about a 1 1/2wk. That has dissappeared now. Then I had the period from Hades, shopping with my kids and had to come home d/t cramping and bleeding uncontrollable. I stayed in the house tired, weak and hungry the whole weekend. I have gained 5lbs during this inj therapy. I am still working out 5-7xwk, and I can not lose the pounds. Good thing the weight is not increasing anymore. So far the eating when I'm not hungry is the biggest problem. Now I'm spotting, like my body wants to have a period but it will not happen. I have one more inj on 4-5-07. I hope it will end the period for good until the surgery. I say if you need the inj have it done. I have had minimal side effects but I still have one more injection, so who's to say what may happen the last mon F 35 2 months

4  stage 5 endo, took last shot(6th) HOT FLASHES, headaches,VERY LOW sexual libido, I think I might be crazy at times, joint and muscle pain, very foggy at times Well any time you take medicine there are always side effects, like anything some works for some and not others. I was in so much pain that it interferred with everyday things. I have got relief from this medication, with some costs. Sometimes I feel depressed and sometimes not. I am in nursing school, and I understand that with medication there is always a risk. My motto is try it if it doesn't work don't take it or if it does and there are side effects, try and outway if it is worth it. I took my last shot of my six month treatment one week ago. I am just praying that I will be fine again (minus pain), for a little while. I want to FEEL like myself again. Not cloudy, depressed, or not sexual aroused. I just want everyone to know that it really!!! has helped. If you have endo you understand of the kind of pain that it brings. Being a future nurse/ health care provider I hope that one day there will be a cure for this, because it affects so many women. I am going to leave my e-mail add F 30 6 months

5  Severe Endo Hot flashes, Mood Swings, head aches I have been on Lupron for about three years now. This to me is a WONDER DRUG. I was in so much pain before this I had my appendix burst and thought it was the endo. The bleeding was so bad I would pass out from blood loss. Now I can do what ever I want when I want.My endo is controlled and am now getting ready to try IVF. I would never had made it this long with out Lupron. (I know I sound like an ad for the med - but it's true.) The side affects where tough to get use to. But the pain I was in was unbearable, headaches are nothing compare to what I was feeling and the hot flashes are very rare. F 29 3 years

5  Severe, Severe Endometriosis Hot Flashes, Mood Swings, Very Bearable Soreness after Shots I just have to say this last part that got cut off: 3. I think people who have negative experiences find their way to proclaim them and share their stories of pain and despair, which makes sense, I understand that. And people who had great experiences dont really bother to tell about them (like myself, even though I told myself I would, it took me about 3 months to do so..lol). I know many women who have taken Lupron (especially those older than me, for fibroids & cancer) & they absolutely LOVE the drug. Whatever your case may be, I wish you all the best, & a long healthy life ;D . F 19 3 months
