LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  fibroid, to reduce size Hot flashes, anxiety attacks(mostly at night),loss of appetite, depression, insatiable thirst, cold chills, loss of focus I started on Lupron in october. My hemoglobin count was around 6, which represented a 6 point drop since my last check up (April). The first month was business as usual. There was no change in what I usually experience. My cycle normally lasted 3 1/2 days. The next month (shot 2) I experienced spotting during the week I would have had a period, and I bled for a day. This is when the hot flashes started. The first flash felt like my skin was going to melt off. I didn't want anything touching my skin. I'm not normally a big eater, but I have noticed a decreased desire for food. I sometimes have to remind myself to eat. I also feel as though I drink a Gallon of cold water everyday. My skin feels different too, rougher, drier. F 24 3 months

1  endometriosis brief hotflashes, decreased libido, headaches This was okay until I ended the treatment. I was the type of person who was on 4 days and I was done. I didn't realize how badly it screwed up my body until I was finished. I suppressed my periods for 2 months regularly as instructed by my doctor for the pain. I still had pain but no period...go figure. Then now...my period's have been even WORSE and last for up to 25 days at a time. With 2 weeks off...and this is supposed to have helped...NOT!  3  Endo and Ovarian Cysts Hot Flashes (Mild) and Night Sweats (Severe) I am on my 7th month of Lupron therapy and have been very satisfied with the pain relief I have experienced since beginning the injections. Unfortuanatly I have just developed another Ovarian Cyst and am very confused about what this means for long term relief. Here's hoping this one goes away with out much grief. My long tern chronic pain landed me with a painkiller addiction...so I'm doing this one with out any pain meds...wish me luck F 29 7 months

4  Endometriosis hot flashes, headaches, restless sleep, reduced sex drive, vaginal dryness, cloudy memory, joint pain On my 24th birthday I had laparoscopic surgery for my endometriosis, the result was increased pain and other symptoms. So, my doctor suggested Lupron. After much consideration I decided that no side effect could possibly be worse than my endo symptoms. So, I began Lupron in May of 06. The first thing I noticed was terrible headaches, which lasted a week or two. The headaches were shortly followed by hot flashes - which really aren't that bad, just annoying. I am a grad student and there have been many times where I have to start faning myself in the middle of class and I turn bright red. So, the hot flashes are more embarrasing and inconvenient than anything. Those are the main side effects I have experienced, but the great thing is that I have been virtually pain free. I still have some side pain due to a cist that could not be removed but otherwise its been great. Now my concern is that I am finished with my shots and am coming off of treatment. I am already experiencing s F 24 6 months

3  Endometriosis Hot flashes, mood swings, mood swings, mood swings LOL, memory loss, night sweats, depression I recently started Lupron 1st shot 10/16 after having 4 laps with little or no relief this was a last resort before anything drastic. The hot flashes are bad but in the right siuation bearable I was in the ER last week for pain but my DR said that normal to get wrose the first few weeks then better. My biggest concern is the depression. I've never felt this way before and I've never been on any type of antidepressant and I don't know what to do. I'll check around for answers but if anyone else feels this way or has felt this way let me know. Thanks!!! I'm glad your all doing so well it inspires me :) F 25 1 months

5  Endometriosis Hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain. I completed my 6 months of Lupron a while ago. It took my body about 6 months from the date of my last injection to start my period again. I've had a lot of pain with my period again. I'm not sure still what to expect, but almost a full year without a period and pain-free was GREAT! F 32 6 months

4  Endometriosis Severe hot flashes (after my second 3 month shot in a row, I get them all day long), terrible night sweats, severe mood swings, weight gain (despite exercise I can't lose middle weight), depression, acne It helped so much with the pain, but I'm so tired of the side effects. I can't wait to be finished so the hot flashes just stop already. It's driving me insane. F 21 1 years

3  Endometriosis Mood swings that are driving my family crazy, tired, pelvic pain, lower back pain, memory loss, hot flashes followed by shivering The first two weeks I had a lot of pain. The next two weeks were infinitely better and I thought it was finally starting to work. These last two weeks are making me question everything. The mood swings are terrible. I cry all the time. The pain just won't go away. I have two months left on this shot and then am supposed to take the second shot. My family is frustrated because I'm not getting better. The hot flashes are becoming continual. F 42 6 weeks

1  endo I HAVE DAY AND NIGHT HOT FLASHES AND HAVE GAINED ALMOST 30 POUNDS NOT TO MENTION DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY. I HAVE BEEN ON THE LUPRON FOR 4 MONTHS NOW AND I AM TERRIFIED I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THE OLD ME. I WANTED MY PAIN AND HEAVY BLEEDING GONE BUT I DIDNT KNOW I WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH SO MUCH ANGUISH. SOMEONE TELL ME THERE IS HOPE I WONT HAVE PERMANENT MEMORY LOSS, WEIGHT GAIN THAT CANT COME OFF, MOOD SWINGS AND HOT FLASHES OH AND THE WONDERFUL NIGHT SWEATS. I AM COMPLETLEY MISERABLE NOW. MY ADVISE IS DONT BE FOOLISH DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE MAKING A DECISION ON THIS MEDICATION THERE IS ALOT OF SIDE EFFECTS THAT YOUR DOCTOR MAY NOT TELL YOU ABOUT POSSIBLY FOR THE REASON OF NOT SCARING YOU AWAY FROM THERAPY THAT MAY HELP YOU. I DONT KNOW I JUST WISH I WOULD HAVE READ ALL THESE PERSONAL EXPERIENCES BEFORE I AGREED TO BE A GINNY PIG. F 39 4 months

5  Endometriosis Hot flashes, fatigue, hair loss, and night sweats. Lupron worked very well for me. I used it to clear up my Endometriosis in order to better my chances of becoming pregnant. I was able to become pregnant a few months after treatment. I am now beginning the injections again to possibly have another child. F 31 3 months

3  Endometriosis Major Hair loss on my head, Unbelievable hot flashes, first 2 months very painful, month 3 no menstrual pain, weight gain, decrease in sex interest I took the drug to help with the severe pelvic pain I had. After having my daughter I found the pain was gone for a few months, and came back. After Taking Lupron after 1 year after my daughter's birth, it was worse for the first 2 months. Pain more severe, periods disgustingly heavy and I was so moody (my poor husband) and so hot all the time. Sweat made me sticky and my face red and shiny so people always were asking me if I was OK. It helped, but you got to take the add back hormone... it helps the hot flashes. I am not going to continue this medicine; the help has not been worth the side effects. It HAS HELPED SO MANY people, and it is a miracle drug. I encourage anyone who is hurting to try it!! F 25 3 months

5  adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, fibroid This is the 3rd time I've written here. Hot flashes and night sweats were about my only side effect and in my opinion were pretty severe, but they were worth it because the 6 months of shots got rid of everything... The flashes finally stopped almost 15 weeks after the last shot. My period has not started back yet. I should say that I am 53 years old and the women in my family don't go thru menopause until they are 63, so most likely I have a ways to go until I go thru it naturally. F 53 6 months

4  Endometriosis Hot flashes, night sweats, forgetfulness, spells of crying, fatigue, anxiety, difficulty focusing on work Despite all the side effects, Lupron has gotten rid of the back pain I experienced for over 6 months and I have only been on the medication for a month. I contemplated to stop taking the medicine but have decided that these 6 months will be worth it in the long run. I am taking Effexor for the crying spells and anxiety. Also, I am taking Ginkgo Biloba for the forgetfulness & Ginsa Gold for the fatigue. F 22 1 months

4  endo So far, just mild hot flashes. The first month was BAD. I have colon problems associated with my endo and now in my second month of Lupron I am still fighting the colon infection. The endo pain is gone! I am so tired but maybe that is the colon problem. I already had a hysterectomy and I am ready to remove last ovary and eb done with it (i hope). I will continue with the shots for now but prefer surgery. Has anybody else suffered colon problems? I can fins little inof but ti is so very miserable. They don't want to give me pain meds because of the constipation problem but the pain can be very draining! I did use ultram for a while but got bad headaches. F 39 5 weeks

1  Endometriosis chronic fatigue syndrome, extremely severe joint pain (limbs and back), dizziness, gait disturbance, severe migraines, hypertension, cardiac arrythmia, visual problems, ovarian cyst No need for long comments: this drug nearly killed me. I'll be on medication for the rest of my life. I hope you'll think twice before taking this drug! Remember it doesn't cure endo or fibroids! F 32 3 months
