LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

2  endo No menopause like symptoms, still having pain. I got my first lupron injection in December. I stopped having a period. I have had no side effects whatsoever of menopause, but still pain from the endo. Then 2 weeks ago I started having sharp shooting pain plus heavy lower back pain. I felt lumps on my left side where my ovary is. I went to my MD today and he felt them and was very suprised. he stated I have 3, about the size of an unshelled peanut. He injected them with cortisone and lidocaine through my skin (OUCH!) He then had me get a blood draw for my estrogen level. He was concerned because I have had NO side effects from the Lupron. He said that I should be having menopause like symptoms. We will see what happens....he said he will probably have to remove them if they do not go away. I am concerned because I do not want an hysterectomy! I will update later. F 33 3 months

3  Fibroid surgery hot flashes, night sweats, rapid weight gain, and low sex drive. Two injections prior to surgery to control bleeding and shed uterine lining. Although Lupron was effective to this end, I am still undetermined if the risks are worth it, particularly when alternative options were available in my case. F 33 2 months

Can anyone tell me how long after, you received your period asfter you stopped the shot. I will be having a hysterectomy on 3/11/09. Had a myomectomy back in July 08. Pain is back to where it was before the shot. Had about three good weeks all together. F 45 60 days

1  Ovarian Cysts Severe Depression, Hot flashes, Mood swings I am bipolar. I manage it with meds and I have been doing great and for the first time in my life I felt so normal and was so happy. Then I got the Lupron shot. I can't stop crying. I yell at my husband and daughter all the time. My moods are so unbearable. I am so miserable. The last time I felt this depressed I almost committed myself. I feel so awful about the way I am acting around my family. I JUST got my life in order for the first time ever and now I feel like all is lost and so hopeless. I don't want to have the next shot. I can't deal with this. F 36 2 weeks

4  Endometriosis More emotional than usual. Mild hot flashes. The worst of it was the second week after the first shot. After that, the side effects are minimal. I was scared to take it after reading other comments, but my doctor convinced me to give it a try. He prescribed Prempro to use along with the Lupron. It counteracts the side effects without interferring with what the drug is trying to do. Besides, I would take the worst of the side effects if I ended up with a healthy baby in the end. F 28 5 weeks

4  severe endometriosis dull abdominal cramping, breast tenderness, acne really bad I had to have a partial hystorectomy. My right ovary and tube were left behind. My body was still producing estrogen so I had to go on the shots. My endometriosis was so bad that it was mimicing stage 4 ovarian and uterin cancer. My uterous had attached itself to the underlining of my stomach and back side of my abdominal wall and I was bleeding internally from lesions left and growing from the endometriosis. After surgery I noticed the pain was still severe, but after the first shot I noticed it to not be so bad. I've had only one shot and I appreciate the relief. Talking with my doctors ... as long as my body continues to produce estrogen I'll never get away from the endo. Estrogen feeds the endo. I hope this helps someone. F 31 2 weeks

4  endo came back nausea, headaches (very minor) cold, joint soreness, sometimes dizzy, most going away. Had complete Hysto, due to severe endo 26 years ago and it keeps coming back. I'm also on aygestin (to aid with hot flashes mood swings). This has helped Tremendously !!!!!! I was having so many hot flashes, now, none. Some joint pain, but I keep active and that seems to help me. Much better than before I began treatment. I was scared to try this, but I'm very happy I did. Some mood swings, but had those anyway with menopause bearing down on me. F 50 3 months

1  Endometriosis mood swings, sweats, joint pain, short term memory loss, felt very anxious, depression, felt needy, dull headache EVERYDAY. This drug should be ILLEGAL, the side effects are worse than anything I ever experienced. Had my uterus removed and that was much easier than dealing with this terrible 3 month injection I had. DO NOT recommend this to anyone. F 41 90 days

4  endo Hot flashes, mood swings, no sex drive I didn't and don't mind the side effects, because it took away the pain, but it's been almost 9 weeks since I had my last shot and I still have no period, no signs either. My husband and I went another baby ASAP and I'm starting to get upset that it's been so long that I'm off the shot and we still can't start trying until I get my period back. F 34 6 months

3  endometriosis The most notorious side effect in me were the Hot Flashes, those hot flashes make you want to rip your clothes off!!, I had some pelvic pain and a lot of insomnia....I did not gain any weight, not 1 pound. I don't know if the drug was effective, I guess we will know in a few months if I get Pregnant or not. F 34 6 times

5  severe endo very few hot flashes I was terrified to started after reading all the negative comments on here. I suffered for many years. I was tired of suffering so I went on Lupron. I started the treatment with a monthly shot for three months. I wanted to make sure I wouldnt have any of these crazy side effects. I only had a few hot flashes. So I got my first 3 month shot today. I am so happy with the results. I am almost pain free. Thank goodness for Lupron. F 33 4 months

5  Endo, PCOS Hot flashes, mood swings, memory problems I just finished my last shot. I have been on the medication for 6 months. I have had PCOS since age 16 and endo for the last 7 years. I had finally had enough and my dr. put me on this to stop my pain until I could make a decision on what I wanted to do on a permanent level. While the side effects weren't great, they were nothing compared to what I have read here. I think it also helped that my doctor put me on premerin to help with the menopause symptoms. I have decided to have a hysterectomy. I want the temp relief to be forever. I have my sugery on Monday. F 33 6 months

4  prostate cancer, bone metastasis Osteoporosis, hot flashes, skin reaction (Eczyma), sex change: (impotence, grow belly and breasts, atrophy elsewhere) Sommer 2007: Severe back pain. Prostate cancer was discovered, PSA over 500. It was in by bones, the fouth vertebrae. 11 radiations got rid of pain, but was too strong, closed my troat, could not speak, could not eat, lost 20 lbs in a week, almost died (got bill anyway), Recovered. (doctors prescribed mouth wash, did not help, my wife broke up Aloe Vera jells and fed them down my thoat, it gradually opened my throat). Since then getting LUPRON DEPOT injections first monthly, then every 3-4 months. PSA December 2008=0.85. Great. But side effects are bothersome. Will suggest skipping one injection, to see what PSA does. Only if it goes up again will I ask for another injection. Also will do another bone density test, which will show the osteoporosis or not. maybe I beat the cancer yet. M 83 15 months

1  Endometriosis Hot flashes/sweats, Vaginal dryness, mood swings, breast enlargement, weight gain, , Joint pain, Depression/emotional lability, Various skin ailments, like Rosacea, Keratosis Pilaris, Allergic Contact Dermatitis, Oral Alergies This drug ruined my life and my marriage. My body has never been the same and the beautiful skin that runs in my family has gone crazy on me. I realize that everybody reacts in a different way to the same drug, I can only speak from my own experience. My personality changed in such a dramatic way that people thought I was going crazy. And yes, my husband and I ended up divorced. It took 6 months for me to go to my normal self again. My Endometriosis has come back and I have had 2 doctors tell me I need to take Lupron again. As painful and bad the endo is, a second round with Lupron will drive to me to suicide. I will try to control the pain with alternative treatment. Please be careful with this drug, do your research and consider other options. In spite of this drug working wonders for other people, it wrecked my life. I took Lupron at 31 after a laparoscopy, after 5 years of pain free periods my pain came back every year getting progresively worse. Now I am 45 and will not agree to L F 45 6 months

1  Endo This drug is a nightmare and should be immediately pulled from the market. It TEMPORARILY relieves the symptoms of Endo, but permanently damages your body. Check out lupronvictimshub.com and see for yourself. This Drug is hideous! Don't take it until you have read ALL the research!! Also the manufacturer TAP was sued by the U.S. Attorney in Boston and was given the largest fine in history $875 million dollars for FRAUD and bribing doctors to prescribe this miserable drug!!! DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG!!! F 40 6 months

2  endo haven't started yet. I found out 4yrs ago i have endo. I've had 2 surgeries for it and it keeps coming back and really bad. my dr. says since nothing else has worked my choices are lupron or a histerectamy. I know I want kids but as bad as my endo is he says I'd be on lupron for a very long time. I am in constant pain and can't sleep at night cause the pain is so bad.If any one has any advise please don't hesitate. The choices I've been givin is really taken a toll on me, and I don't know if lupron is the best choice for me. And of course my dr. is trying everything possible on me and now I just feel like a lab rat! F 23 0 days
