DEPO-PROVERA  (MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE):  This medication is used to treat certain types of cancer (such as uterine cancer, kidney cancer). Medroxyprogesterone is like a natural hormone called progesterone made by the body. It is usually used with or after other treatments (such as radiation, surgery).  1  Pregnancy prevention Depression, anxiety, on/off brown discharge, hormonal, no sex drive, vaginal dryness. This was my second time on the depo (first time was a positive experience but I was a lot younger). This time I can only describe my experience as horrific. I became irrational, depressed, hated sex and the thought of it. Went to my doctor and explained my symptoms and she believed it was the depo creating these problems and 2 months off it I feel as if I'm getting back to my normal self. F 27 6 months

 1  Prevent pregnancy I lost a lot of hair,had chest pain but has gotten better,but I am having my hands shake and feeling weak.do not recommend to anyone. F 26 6 months

 1  To prevent pregnancy Horrible migraine almost everyday no appetite, depressed all the time . I wake up feeling weak loss weight really bad also acne breakouts on my face no sex drive by being on depo provera is the worst thing in life . I would never take the injection again. It's so bad that I cry everyday the worst side affects ever. F 32 6 months

 1  Was encouraged to by Dr for the sta Migraine headaches ,violent mood swings, bled for an entire year , low iron,weight loss ,to the point of looking anorexic,fatigued, numbness in my pinky finger on one hand and complete numbness of my other, lazyness -not my nature. Severe depression ,very suicidal I bled for an entire year. I was treated as if I was crazy for wanting to be seen to find out why but they wouldnt see me untill I stopped bleeding . I just wanted to know that I wasnt dying or that something wasnt seriously wrong with me. I called a lot of different drs and was told that the depo shot had no such side effects that I should see a shrink and go to anger mansgement. Im not an angry person.this was 23 years ago and im still suffering from many of the side effects like headaches, depression , fatigued,and pain in my neck. This is how a woman is treated in our day and age and have been for centuries. The glass breast implant,men thought that was a great idea untill the glass broke and she died F 47 6 months

 1  Endometriosis I went from a ray of sunshine with so much motivation to a couch potatoe with 0 desire to do anything. This shot makes you depressed. My symptoms consist of CRONIC neck and shoulder pain, extreme tiredness, somewhat blurry vision, dizziness, mood swings, crying for no reason, anxiety, a random swollen lymph node in my neck that hurts like heck and overall feeling like I'm dying. I've been to numerous doctors (primary, urgent care and ENT) who say I'm fine and nothing is wrong but I feel awful everyday and they think I'm crazy. Luckily my gyno is amazing and told me to stop taking it and that these symptoms can be side effects of the shot. I can't wait for it to wear off. The only reason why I agreed to take the shot was because I was diagnosed with endometriosis 7 months ago and they said I had to stop periods or I could develop another emdometrioma cyst and potentially lose my other ovary. I REALLY want kids so I agreed to try depo. Never again. I'll take my chances with the pill. If you haven't started it yet, don't! Save yourself. F 26 6 months

 1  Prevent pregnancy Heart palpations, Dizzy, Hot flashes, Anxiety/ Panic attacks, Tingling arms, Leg pain, Back pain, Abdominal pain, Shoulder pain, Months of bleeding I got the shot when I was on my period June 2023 my period stopped shortly after my first shot. At first I had no side effects and no period so I thought "this is great". Then I got my second shot and things went downhill. I got my period in Sept 2023 and it stopped January 2024! I bled light to heavy allll those months with some clotting! I've been to the ER and Urgent care for this weird abdominal pain that I thought was my kidneys or appendix. I've been checked so many times for everything! Even checked my thyroid, kidneys, gallbladder I've checked everything! Blood and urine tests constantly. Got a CT Scan but everything was normal. All my blood tests were normal. All my organs were normal. I've had UTI's and BV so many times. I told my OB about my pain and bleeding and she looked at me and said “well I've never heard of that before”. BS it takes one google search to see so many other women complain about bleeding! I've seen so many doctors about my issues and even one doctor diagnosed me with anxiety and I've never had any mental health issues! I have no history or family history of mental health, cancer, thyroid or anything! Not every woman has a bad experience but this Depo Shot is NOT good! I would NOT recommend!  1   I took Depo because the doctor told me it was the last possible treatment for my debilitating endometriosis after having undergone at laporoscapy and lupron injections for 2 year. Within one week I was irritable, angry and easily upset. Within a few weeks I was having difficulties controlling my emotions. I started my period when having the 1st shot which lasted a 1.5 months until the doctor decided to inject me again to stop the bleeding. My moods went even more out of control and I ended up int he hosptial a few weeks later for suicidal ideation. I've had headaches, dizziness, depression, suicidal ideation, back pain and so many more side effects. This drug is going to kill more people and it needs to be taken off the market! Depo Provera has already resulted in numerous deaths! Do the makers of this drug feel guilty about their product or can they find an excuse as to why someone has taken their life? It must be some other reason right? No this drug is deadly! F 26 6 months

 1  Birth control I had 2 shots, 3 months apart. Lost hair like someone having chemo. Bleeding for 11 months!!! Lost weight, sex drive, horrendous mood swings, this shot is a nightmare! Everyone reacts differently to a medication. But I would read about it first and beware of first symptoms. I was naive and trusted my doc who said my symptoms were going away after 2nd hot.  1  birth control Bulge in entrance of vagina weeks after 2nd shot(never had kids or any other trauma!!) no sex drive at all...even 3 years later!! Couldnt even watch kissing on tv!muscles didnt feel strong enough to oragsm, this had never been a problem! Another thing I noticed straight away was the bladder not emptying properly or leaking on moving into different positions. No period for first injection, then on 2nd injection...bleeding for 6 months after non stop , and blood looked brown and clotted!! A penis..(no matter how small Id imagine) would not fit in..even if i did want sex...which I never did now after this poison!! Was never told about any of the severe depression that could come with it!!...I was suicidal and locked in a cell twice for my own safety! I suddenly couldnt tell anyone I loved them anymore..and still cant now, over 3 years later! If you want all the mess that comes with this injection...go for it..but I highly recommend that no one takes it..not even my worst enemy!!! Never take this poison!! F 23 6 months

 1  to stop heavy frequent periods Nausea and constant heavy bleeding. Bleeding that cannot be contained by tampon and pad. Horrible experience, not going back for third shot. Honestly I don't know how I am surviving this extreme blood loss. It started 6 weeks after the second shot. F 41 6 months

 1  as a contraceptive-easy bc anxiety, depression, unable to control moods, back pain, nausea, headaches everyday, fatgue ,paranoia, feeling weak, irritability, no periods since ive started it, cramps all day. when i started, it was great, id only have cramps around the time i would normally get my period( which i haven't had at all). After my 2nd dose, ive had horrible mood swings, nausea, back pain it's like being pregnant but you're not pretty much. if i wanted to have these symptoms, i would have just gotten pregnant. its not worth what you go through, i feel bad for my boyfriend lol idk how he puts up with me like this, i cry all the time, get angry over the dumbest things. It's a rolleroaster, and i hate rollercoasters. Please, do not take this BC, it should be banned. F 20 6 months

 1  birth control constant bleeding, uterine lining never returned to normal, extreme anxiety, panic attacks, depression My doctor insisted this was the only suitable birth control and told me the only side effect was a good one: that I'd stop getting my period. It concerned me. I wasn't told of any other side effect possibilities. When I ended up bleeding for the full 3 months I was told the bleeding would stop if I took another shot. I had been set on refusing another shot and only went to the clinic to find out what to do about the bleeding. They convinced me another shot was the best cure. After six months of non-stop bleeding I returned and they claimed that excessive bleeding was not a known side effect. It's been 7 yrs since the shot and my periods have never returned to normal. Anxiety and panic attacks: I used to be "zen" calm. Nothing got me riled. I got along with everyone, even people I didn't like. About 3 wks after my first shot I started flying off the handle over simple things. I was yelling at my child on a near daily basis. The panic attacks started shortly into the second shot. I have tried to take herbs and supplements to stabilise my moods but still have to explain to people when I'm having an attack so they don't take it personally. The depression went away after about a month of the last shot. I've gotten better at identifying when it's me and not them. This drug is horrible. It could have wrecked my life. It could have turned me into a "revolving door" drug user if I had chosen to keep trusting the doctors. 7 years later, I still can't say F 42 6 months

 1  Birth control This shot is horrible. I do not recommend it at all! The first shot i had made me bleed until i got my second one (three months of a never ending period.) I was also an emotional wreck. I'd cry over the stupidest things. The second shot, the periods stopped, but I got ovarian cysts. Excruciating pain from the cysts rupturing, lack of sex drive, crazy mood swings, depression (and I have that already, so the depo provera just made it worse), anger, constant anxiety and panic attacks, and much more. Do NOT get this shot. I turned into a crazy bitch just from two shots! I'm currently on ovcon (pill), and it's so much better. F 19 6 months
