Some of the tumor had shrunk and all were very slow growing for the previous 18 months. After the back spasms, mom was hospitalized for pneumonia. Turned out to be tumor growth. Within 3 weeks of her hospitalization in January, she was dead. The tumors that were very slow growing for a year and a half grew enough to take over her lung and kill her - all within 2 months of taking the fosamx and having the back spasms. FDA says the drug shouldn't be given to anyone who has cancer or has had radiation or chemo. The pain eventually drove me into the OR at a local hospital. The attending doctor suggested that I was having an attack of gastritis...I was then put on Prevacid (which I later found out inhibits the absorption of calcium...wow) to reduce the acid in my stomach. However, my stomach pain never quite went away...so I went online to find more info on Fosamax. My research lead me to many sites regarding the terrible side effects of this drug, including digestive problems associated with it. I decided that enough is enough, and I took myself off of Fosamax, after all I know my body better than anyone else. I will continue to take calcium tablets with vitamin D twice daily, drink and eat calcium rich foods, as well as, do weight bearing exercises 3 to 4 times a week.
