| 5 | spotting in-between periods | Fatigue, headache, dizziness, tension, and nausea, nausea, nausea . . . but the side effects are getting better with time. | I became sexually active for the first time at 27! For several months, I tried Triphasic pills combining oestrogen and progesterone followed by Monophasic pills, then by the acne pill—Diane 35--all of which left me bloated and terribly uncomfortable. Then my relationship unraveled, ended, and there followed a lot of non-committal and non-binding encounters which coincided with the death, from AIDS, of several friends and acquaintances. So since then and until May 2006, I’ve sworn by the condom for protection from STDs and for birth control. I began taking Yasmin because of frequent spotting that left me feeling smelly and tired! Except a feeling of fatigue, headache, dizziness, tension that just don’t seem to want to go away, I love Yasmin. I like that it makes me EAT!! Or rather, when I’m on Yasmin, I have this funny pain/nauseous feeling in the pit my stomach that only goes away when I eat. It reduced my pain and I was definitely less bloated than with other pills (loestrin, triphasil)and lost a few pounds but it made me blue, bitchy, and I felt edgy and wound up constantly. I have always had a stressful job and have never experienced the kind of anxiety I felt. I also never had sleep issues before this. It took awhile to fall asleep and I'd awake before my alarm. I had tightening in my chest and absolutely no sex drive. My period still lasted over 8 days. I almost quit after the first couple of weeks because of the mood swings, but this pill quickly improved my complexion, so I decided to wait it out. The second month has been better with regard to mood swings; exercise helps to reduce the mood swings, as does vitamin B stress tabs and fish oil capsules. I still have some trouble concentrating during the day. Acne is totally under control on my face, but, oddly, this pill caused my back to break out, which is rare for me. My back seems to be clearing up now, but I've had to use a topical acne gel. I've had none of the libido problems described by other users. I'd be happier if my moods/concentration were the way they were before, but it has been my experience that every pill has an up side and a down side. I've tried 8 or 9 pills in my life, and Yasmin helps my complexion the most. My skin also seems softer and has a little more of a youthful glow than it had before (I'm 36). Painful muscle craps and tingling in limbs. Thought maybe something was seriously wrong, never though about Yasmin being the culprit. Doctor ordered lots of blood tests. Turns out my Sodium levels, other electrolytes and CO2 levels quite low and my PH level quite high. All indicative of diuretic use. Went off Yasmin and all of the above symptoms disappeared. Finally, I started doing some research and put two and two together. In only a week, my appetite increased dramatically. I am athletic, and have a well-balanced diet complete with whole grains, protein and vegetables. My routine meals and snacks were no longer filling after taking this pill. I found myself wanting seconds and thirds, which is uncharacteristic of me. In addition to increasing my appetite, Yaz made me fluctuate from feelings of anxiety, sadness and anger. Some nights I would be up at 2:00am, struggling to fall asleep. Nothing in my life has changed in the last couple of weeks to bring on such a shift in mood, and I generally do not suffer unexplained changes in my disposition. I had HORRIBLE migraines and vomiting on the other two birth control pills --and such an awful adverse effect from Ortho-Lo that I started spotting uncontrollably (to the point that I was having a heavy flow non-stop and my OBGYN had to do a DNC kind of procedure to help me. I also had Chronic Lyme Disease, and have just now gotten off antibiotics (after being on strong antibiotics since 2001). This is the ONLY birth control pill thus far not to give me migraines and vomiting. I am very sensitive to meds, so I would recommend Yasmin to people whose systems are over-sensitive like mine.
