| 5 | acne,prevent pregnancy | My gyno gave me yasmin about six months ago for acne and as a birth control method. I have mild acne on my chin,jawline and around my mouth. I have read so many horror stories about yasmin and I am afraid to try it. Most of the acne comments I have read has been for really bad cystic acne and I was wondering if anyone on here as had mild hormonal acne and had luck with yasmin. Could you please email me I have been on other pills and they have made it worse and I really don't want anymore kids right now as I already have two. I am busy in their lives and I don't want to have to worry about acne so please any advice would be appreciated. However as I was so low and not thinking properly, it took a while to make the connection and thank god for this website or I would not have done it at all. The first month seemed fine. When I started the second month, by the fourth day my symptoms were so severe I could not leave my house or function. I stopped the pill immediately and the symptoms took one week to subside. I am feeling completely normal again after detoxing for 7 days, which included additional symptoms of nausea and dizzy spells. FYI - I am healthy, no depression but I have noticed being much more tired lately but I thought it was from getting older. My breast are unbearably sore the week or 10 days before my period and my periods are about 3 times as heavy as they were before. I have never had acne but this pill caused severe breakouts. My mood is unpredictable and I will cry at anything. This might all even be bearable except that my previously very healthy sex drive has been reduced to zero and when I do have sex it is absolutely impossible to get aroused or have an orgasm. The mood swings have been the absolute worst-my boyfriend (of three years) and I broke up just today because of the mood swings. He has begged me to stop taking them as of today. The mood swings and depression were the worst. I can no longer fit into any of my current clothes and the leg pain and sudden cough are extremely alarming. Libido no longer exists. I would not recommend this to anyone. I've been doing research on Yasmin and have found that the most common side effects are mood swings/moodiness and decreased libido (if any at all). I recommend something else if you are experiencing any of the same side effects as well. However, I am interested in hearing from those who experienced terrible side effects at first but felt their side effects were reduced after the first three month mark. | F | 17 | 25 days | 8/17/2006 | 1 | Birth Control & Curb Ovarian Cysts | TERRIBLE migraine and below-knee joint/muscle discomfort midway through period week while on Yasmin 21-day pack; no migraine during placebo pills on 24-day Yaz, but intense discomfort from hips down to feet (sensations of surging warmth, tingling, vague cramping/tightening of muscles). | I went through the leg discomfort for about a week before abruptly quitting Yaz. I took Yasmin for 2 months and Yaz for 1 month and the first week of the 2nd month. I was concerned about blood clots, so went to an urgent care clinic. My potassium level was in the normal range, my spinal xray was okay, and my spinal MRI was okay. The doctor asked if MS ran in my family! My circulation was fine. Finally, after about a month and a half, my legs are totally symptom-free. I wish the medical community was better able to fine-tune hormones for each individual woman without having to use trial and error--messing with our minds and our relationships with other people! When I stopped taking the Yaz, I had palpitations one night while trying to go to sleep. I was laying in bed, and thought I was going to pass out 3 times. My anxiety level was really bad, and I had very gloomy, hopeless thoughts, but knew it was my body chemistry out of whack. I got her switched to an older form of b/c, SPRINTEC, but first she has to DETOX for a full week! Doctors are being SOLD on this new drug but the "warnings list" is far from complete! I felt awesome the first 2 weeks, my skin cleared up to being perfect and I had lots of energy. I was ecstatic! But on the third week I went psycho. Was too tired to even feed myself, my Mom had to come over and feed my kids :( So I threw out the pills 3 days before the end of the third week, and 2 days later was on the mend from my depressive episode. I decided to try them again the second month and it was much better - I survived the whole month without going psycho. I am finishing my third month now and I decided to stick with it - though I am monitoring myself for any possible psycho comebacks. The package insert does mention that depression is a possible temporary side effect. | I can now go more than a day before needing to wash my hair (scalp is much less oily), and my skin has completely cleared up thanks to Yasmin. Am still losing hair, but I think that takes a few months before seeing results. I am more susceptible to headaches, and my appetite has increased - I need to watch not to overeat. Have not gained weight. My periods are much lighter. Still have some PMS. I have noticed a pattern in these reviews. I have some depression in my family, and had a mild bout with it in the past. OB/GYNs should be asking the patient if they have any history with depression or anxiety before prescribing, b/c Yasmin seems to bring it to the surface very quickly in these people, myself included.
