| 1 | mood swings right before period | negatives overwhelmingly outweigh the positives - lost complete sex drive (dating a man for 7 years with no sex drive problems before), felt completely numb of emotion, smelly white constant discharge, dizziness, panic attacks, nausea. A few positives were weight loss, larger breast and reduced acne. | This drug flipped my world upside down. It ended my 7 year relationship that was going fantastic till i started to feel the side effects of the drug. My personality completely changed! I thought the lack of sex drive and void of emotion was due to the relationship. After 8 months on Yaz I started reading reviews about the drug and realized the pill was the reason for all the unexplainable negative changes going on in my body. Sure enough, immediately after stopping the drug all the symptoms i wrote to the left were gone. It has been 6 months since i stopped taking Yaz and I am still baffled at how much the drug had changed me. I would not wish this pill on my worst enemy! It destroyed my happiness and 7 year relationship during the time i was on it. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss . . . As for the Good: After about three or four months of taking this as directed, my face rarely ever broke out at all. I also had moderate acne on my back that went away (almost all the way) for the first time in about four years. It also protected against pregnancy as it is supposed to do. On the Fence: I say that I am on the fence about weight loss because I don't want people to go rushing to take this pill because of it's potential ability to shed pounds. I was a healthy 124 and over the course of the last year I have went down to about 113 on average. I was not looking to lose weight, and friends and family became concerned about my weight loss. I wasn't eating as much not because I was on an extreme diet but because the pill physically made me not as hungry. I am also a med student participating in a secondary study on hormone therapies, and I feel it's important to tell you that Yasmin, like ALL birth control pills, are synthetic hormones! Of course you're going to experience these things! Normally, in isolated tests, these side effects waned after 3 months of use in almost ALL research subjects. Compared to most that's pretty successful. I know how frustrating these hormones can be, but that's part of the compromise w/ bc pills... you take them because they're convenient and EFFECTIVE... in return you may experience some side effects. I recommend sticking with Yasmin for at least 3-4 months. I personally noticed that all of the depression, tiredness, etc definitely waned after 3 months. Your body has to get used to the hormone. Like most drugs, you build up a sort of "toleranace" to it once your chemistry adjusts. I am experiencing severe nausea. It's so bad that I can't really eat much during the day. I also pee all the time (this was a side effect of Yaz too) and my breasts are very sore. Most important is my emotional instability. I've always been reluctant to blame things for my behavior, but I really do feel like this drug has had an impact on my emotional well being. I've been really irritable and have blown up about little things. The mere fact that it is prescribed to treat PMDD shows its potential for changing the emotional states of patients.
