| 1 | Contraceptive and Period | EXTREME fatigue, flu-like symptoms, irritable, headaches, complete loss of sex drive, swollen throat in mornings and at night, cramps during period | One of the worst birth controls I've ever taken... birth controls in general make me tired a lot, but this one makes me feel as if i need to sleep constantly. I've been sick non-stop since I first started taking it as well, with a sore throat (especially in mornings and at night) and runny nose. I've had headaches non-stop as well, and Yasmin makes me feel kind of "hazy" a lot. I've lost my sex drive completely, which is definitely strange for me, and I'm irritable and pick fights constantly for no reason-- I'm very moody. And even though my period is lighter, I still have cramps. However, the breakthrough bleeding was just continuous it was ridiculous! I only had one "bleeding free" week so I had to ask to try other pills. I've been on Diane-35 (severe depression) and now on Mercilon (does not work against acne). I will try another pill after Mercilon if others don't work out well I will go back to Yasmin. The generic has not helped with my acne and I believe it to prevent my skin from healing. Now when I get a little mosquito bite or small surface scratch it scars. I have a bunch of rediculous little scars all over. I have put on 15-20 pounds with no change in diet or exercise routine. No change in other medications over the past 3-4 years. I see many other people commenting about depression. I thought it was great! Skin cleared up, moderate weight fluxuation. Then about a year ago, I became WAY emotional out of the blue. I would cry over the smallest things. I had suicidal thoughts, totally lethargic and "hazy." My sex drive reduced to 0 - I love my BF, but we stopped having sex for nearly 6-8 months because I had no drive and would pick fights for NO REASON. Awful. In March I got busy at work and stopped taking it by accident. I felt so good, so NORMAL, that I just discontinued use. The first month was great. My personality re-adjusted over night, I have more energy, I'm genuinly happy, my sex drive is through the roof. But now I am 1.5 weeks late on my second period since quitting. I am bloated and have noticed water weight gain. I hope that it can be managed with strict diet, excersice and anti-bloat pills. I am breaking out, but I expected that. It's bad, but I am hoping that Pro-Active will keep it at bay until my body regulates. But again, my mood is so much better that it seems like a small price to pay. So far anyway. I have not noticed the hair effects yet - I have alays had very think, long hair. For those of you experiencing that side effect, there are vitamins you can take that may help you get through it. Ask your salon. If anyone has any advice, or can share what happened after the 2 month mark, that would be great. Low mood, leg and lower backache if I don't take with supplemental Estradiol cream. | After trying and "failing" all the usual migraine preventives (Amitriptyline, Inderal, Topomax) and continually reaching the limits on my rescue meds. (Relpax, Frova, Norgesic & Vistaril), my neurologist finally prescribed Yasmin for me in an effort to control my severe, hormonally triggered migraines and PMDD. Note, because I do NOT take this for birth control and I am at higher risk for stroke because of my age, I only take 1/4 tablet per day. (Yes, I cut those little Yasmins into quarters!) With this I also use some supplemental Estradiol cream to balance out my hormones, and this combination has proven to be a godsend for me. After suffering for nearly 30 years, I think I'm finally beginning to understand what "normal" actually feels like. I've gone from near constant, low level head pain and as many as 16 full-blown migraine days a month, to zero back-ground pain and only 3 (fully treatable) migraine days a month. I also no longer experience the crushing mood drops and uncontrolled crying that would hit me like a hammer every month with my period. The added bonus has been my skin has cleared up and my hair has become glossy again. I'm dismayed to read how many have suffered awful side effects from Yasmin. But don't just complain and accept the next pill, take the time to educate yourself! READ, READ, READ and become your own expert. The "Women's Health Resource" website offers extensive information on BCPs. I do not know if it is the cause for sure, but I have been very depressed and even angry. The anger has definitely developed since I was changed to Ocella. I fight with my fiance for no real reason, as many others have mentioned, and its gotten so bad that I feel like our relationship will be destroyed by my moodiness, anger, and depression. I was depressed sometimes on Yasmin, but it has really escalated since being on Ocella. My fiance tries to help me, but even when he is sweet and tries to make up with me, I am too angry to care. And, I LOVE THIS MAN. So, he's had to deal with alot from me. He researched it and first suggested that it may be the BCP. But, I discarded the idea, until today, when I looked online myself and saw the terrible and same side effects other women are facing.
