| 1 | REGULATE CYCLE | From the day I started taking YAZ I bled for 1 full month. Very heavy flowing and very large clotting. I stopped taking YAZ and my cycle ended 4 days later. I then started my 2nd pack on Sunday and on Monday I was having very severe leg cramps. I stopped taking them 2 dys later because a friend of mine almost died due to a blood clot in her leg from taking YAZ. It started off slow and I passed it off on just stress and life problems, but after about 6-7 months I realized that it was more than that. After 8 months I didn't want to be touched in a sexual way by anyone and had lost the ability to fantiscize. After the 8 months on Yasmin, it became 100% effective in proventing pregnancy because I could no longer have sex. I also became deppressed after this, mainly because I did not feel like myself. I switched to Yasmin, and my behavior changed dramatically. First, I cried for the stupidest things (as if I had permanent PMS), and I experienced a severe case of sleepiness, to the point where I could sleep for hours and still I felt tired. Then I spent one week in bed because of an unsusual and sudden episode of vomiting/headaches/fainting/loss of vision/fatigue. Afterwards, I just kept going downhill. I started having fights with my boyfriend/siblings/mother for the stupidest reasons, and I was just not myself, feeling unhappy and miserable. I also experienced a slight decrease in sex drive, only because I felt so tired all the time. After two months and barely finishing the first week of the third pack, I stopped taking the pills. I eventually got a grasp of the severe depression but depression itself never went away, and I always felt angry and guilty about being angry. I finally realized that the pills were the reason for the yeast infections, and when I stopped the pills I completely changed into a really happy normal person with a normal sex drive again. The doctor and friends of mine told me they loved it so I tried again, and within a week all of the symtoms came back. I WILL NEVER take them again or ever recommend them to anyone. I never realized so many people felt this way or maybe I would have figured out sooner, instead of blaming myself. Yasmin is the first and only birth control pill I have ever taken so I don't have much to compare it to, but the anxiety seems a little odd. Being on Depo-Provera was like a dream come true, no period, no mood swings, no weight gain, but I did develope an allergy to it during the 2nd year of taking it, and also found out that it caused pretty severe boen density loss. My OBGYN then recommended that I take Yasmin as she thought it would be best for me. The first couple of months I had major mood swings, but those have since passed. What bothers me most is the gastrointestinal side of it. I have awful gas, which I can't ever seem to get rid of and if I take a pill hours after my normal time, I have terrible diarrhea. Also, my skin is horribly dry and I'm constantly needing water, but my thirst is never quenched. This is the first time I've ever used BC, always used condoms before. I now have confirmed why I always refused to take it in the past. After this month, I'm not taking any BC again and will try other methods. The one that was most dibilitating was the fatigue as well as the hostility side effect. It was the most variety of unusual side effects I've had trying any pill by far. Also, I am a good self-observer and have no mental health problems. Here they are. The most serious I thought were feeling dizzy as in I felt like fainting, unusually hostile and moody, a strange, large clumpy yeast infection like I have never gotten before; and tired wanting to sleep when I get home and not do anything. Also it made me feel depressed like the whole world was grey, nauseous to my stomach, unusually confused as if in a mental fog at times, and when I had a glass of wine on it I felt so dizzy and sick I found I couldn't drink at all. Maybe it works for some, not for me. The first two months were a bit trying. I had started a short-term course of antibiotics around the same time, and I felt as though I had to battle a yeast infection (first ever) for an entire month. By month 2.5, however, I felt healthier than ever. I've actually lost weight since I started (125 lbs to 118lbs), but my belly area isn't as tone as it used to be(barely noticeable). Also, my breast size increased slightly (still same cup size), which I didn't mind at all. Also during the first month, my libido increased to almost frustrating levels. :) At month four, however, the lingering side-effects are a loss of concentration (I have ADHD and had to increase my ADHD medication), sleepiness/tireness (I feel like I need an hour or two more of sleep now... and yet, I still feel slightly dazed), and a slight *decrease* in sex-drive (although it's still a bit higher than my significant other's).
