| 1 | Birth Control | Be careful with Yasmin. Beside the chest pains, bloating, and leg cramps, I too had the mood swing issues. I think the roller coaster mood swings hit me after being on it with no problems for about 1.5 years. Then they hit hard - anxiety, depression, panic attacks, being ultra sensitive. I felt low, insecure, sensitive, anti-social. All of the above. I am switching to Loestrin now and hope to see some improvement. My symptoms got worse a week before my period - which was when I pms'd the most. | I totally was on a roller coast with Yasmin. After being on it about a year and a half (or 2years, not sure) I started to feel more and more anxious. I had had a traumatic event happen and then Yasmin just made everything worse in terms of the mood swings. I was fighting with my boyfriend all the time. I truly felt I was losing my mind, crying hysterically to my mom. I am switching to Loestrin or else I will just use condoms. Our hormones are powerful. Then I was having chest pains and anxious feelings, almost full blown panic attacks, for which I had to take an ant-anxiety med to control. Sensation of paralysis following taking it and lying down. Constant running to the bathroom to urinate (due to droperinone which acts as a diuretic), developed heart murmur and pain across my chest (squeezing sensations). Tired and no energy while taking it. | Spent the last two days researching Yasmin, reading women's feedback and comments. Recommend: 1. Before taking Yasmin to have your potassium levels checked. 2. Check out Worstpills.org (not recommended by Public Citizen)-because of the risks associated with developing hyperkalemia which is caused by too much potassium in the blood. Yasmin's synthetic hormone-drosperinone causes an increase in potassium and can result in hyperkalmia. Check Warning Letters and Untitled Letters to Pharmaceutical companies 2003. CDER-Center for Drug Evaluation and Research by the USFDA. Check for a letter provided by Health and Human Services written to one of the producing pharmaceutical companies in 2003 notifying them that they must disconinue their advertisments because several of the statements made are mis-leading that could potentially lead to people discounting the health risks of this pill (increase in potassium). Painful pressure in both ears due to this pills increase of potassium in your body. Ears would pop for two hours after I took the pill. Constant urination-because of the synthetic hormone acts like a diuretic. Squeezing sensation in chest which are still occuring two months after discontinuing. Very concerned. Developed heart murmur. Exhaustion. Depression. | I was on this pill for almost two years. Over time, I came to recognize major side effects that I am still very concerned about. I've been researching so that I can let other women know my experiences as I think that they were quite serious and am still experiencing serious concerns and side effects as noted. An ear doctor actually told me that oral contraceptives have been known for a long time to be "odo-toxic". Which means-toxic to the inner ear. The synthethic hormone in this pill -dirosperone increases potassium levels in the body. Inner ear is composed of a potassium fluid. I had to learn the majority of this information from people other than the prescribing doctor, an RN or the pharmacist. | F | 36 | 2 years | 11/19/2006 | 5 | PCOS, acne, weight gain | Breast tenderness before period, mild mood swings in first 2 months | I had been on multiple different BCPs over several years to treat my hormonal issues. Others made me miserable. The most tolerable (other than Yasmin) was Desogen, but I still had acne problems and difficulty controlling weight with it. I LOVE Yasmin. Acne has disappeared, the dark hairs on my upper lip have turned blonde again, weight problems are basically eliminated (lost 27 pounds since changing pills). The breast tenderness was irritating for the first 6 months or so. Went away on its own. I basically do not have mood swings related to PMS. Sex drive is low, but I haven't found a pill yet that it's not low (especially when you have PCOS in the first place). Maybe a good sex drive is the GOOD side of PCOS?! :) I recommend Yasmin, but stay on it for at least 6 months to give your body a chance to adapt to the different hormones. Any less than that, and you're really not giving it a fair chance. I took Yasmin 2 1/2 years ago, I had severe heart palpitations. After visiting many physicians including cardiologist, I was told of the impact of Yasmin on your hormones and the resulting effects. However, its effects are not immediate (at least for me it wasnt). It took about 3-4 months before Yaz started working for me. I've been on it for 6 months now and it has completely cleared up my acne and I have no other problems with the pill now. However the first 3 months on Yaz were HELL! my acne got worst before it got better. I broke out more and broke out in places i've never broken out in before I started taking Yaz. Other side effects I initially experienced were breast enlargement, food cravings, weight gain (10lbs), lots of fatigue, mood swings, and loss of sex drive. I only stayed on Yaz because my GYN told me to give my body time to get use to it. and she was right by the 4th month my acne was gone and the other side effects were gone also. | Yaz is great at clearing face and body (chest and back) acne. But it took at least 3-4 months for it to clear up my acne and for the side effects to subside. It doesn't contain the testosterone destroying hormones that Yasmin does(which creates libido), I'm hoping my sex drive will come back with a little help from acupuncture.
