Very bitchy attitude, wanting to be alone all the time, etc. | I was on Yasmin for about three years and I was a a complete basket case! I was always complaining and upset about everything. I gained about 5lbs in the first 6 months too. My sex drive was low and caused depression. I didnt talk to my friends for a week once because I wanted to be alone! The side affects are crazy! Everyone reacts differently to medications and I'm one of those people that have bad side effects to most drugs, but this one has been great and I have no complaints. I take it continually - taking a week off the pills only every few months or, in other words, four periods a year. For the first 23 years of my life I'd suffered from a constant, large, disfiguring patch of eczema on my leg that kept me from wearing shorts or skirts and caused strangers to make comments about it to me in public. After three weeks of being on yasmin, the eczema was completely gone and my skin was healed entirely. You can't even see a scar! I've found that by avoiding monthly periods my emotional status is much more stable. I've gained about 15 pounds, but then again, I'm at the age where metabolism slows anyway and I've recently become vegetarian meaning a lot more pasta and fried food. So take that as you will. When I do have my period, I've found the cramps are a bit more intense, but not entirely debilitating. Inability to sleep, feelings of anxiety and sobbing that escalated into a rollercoaster of emotions. At one point I was rushed to the ER twice and needed to be sedated - very strong dose of xanax. I went from climbing the walls to fetal position sobbing in pain. I logged on to my computer and began to search for women with the same symptoms. I cried with relief, called my "dr's" practice and a call was returned - their answer "if you look up red cars and accidents on the web you're bound to believe all red cars have accidents..." Here's the scary part...Yasmin caused Serotonin depleation in my brain -the buffer between anxiety (norepinephrine) and depression (dopemine). My new Dr. explained it like this: The estrogen in Yasmin was such a high dose for a diagnosed PCOSer that it put me into a state of total meltdown - going from extreme anxiety to extreme depression with no middle ground, no plateau. I forgot to order my refill so I was 4 days late starting a new pack. I started the pack and 72 hours later had my first panic attack of my life (32 yrs old). Then, a chest heaviness and anxiety that wouldn't go away. All labwork came back normal. Finally, I went on the sugar pills and all symptoms stopped in 72 hours! Coincidence? I don't think so. If you've never had anxiety or panic before and it starts while on Yasmin trying going off it and see if it helps. I was thinking "what is happening to me"? No I've been off it for 10 days and feel 75% back to normal. I am confident that I will be 100% as soon as my hormones regulate. I'm actually worried about the psychological damage this episode might have done, having panic for 3 weeks straight is not good for a person! I started taking Yasmin after my doctor told me I shouldn't take Diane anymore in case of blood clots. At first, there was no difference in mood or anything. But after about 6 months, I became more emotional. It has been over a year now, and have decided to stop taking birth control pills all together. I didn't even really notice the change in me, but according to those around me, it's been pretty major. I feel good about my choice because even though the pill is important, I think it's a healthy choice to stop taking it after so long. While the pill is important in preventing pregnancy, I encourage anyone who is thinking about starting to understand what it does to your body, and that it is a relatively new drug, and long term effects to the female body is not known, no matter what their websites tell you. The first month, my period was non-exsistant. It was SO light I wouldn't even call it a period. Cramps were still present and thankfully not as bad. My breast became sore 2 weeks before I started my period and lasted until I started the 2nd months pill. They were so painful even the slightist brush would cause horrible pain. My emotions were off the wall, I had horrible mood swings and would cry for no reason for hours. I hardly wanted to get out of bed. I never want to do anything, I would raither stay home and do nothing. That just isn't me. I love seeing my friends, and I don't even want to do that. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and I have had no urge to work on our favors or do anything dealing with the wedding. I'm sad most of the time. I have no energy to do anything.
