| 1 | BC - OB/Gyn switched for no reason | Depression, weepy, severe fatigue, mood swings | within 3 days of starting on this after being on Ortho-tri cyclen with no issues, I immediately started to feel depressed, not being able to "see" any of the goodness in my life, thinking about how much I hated my job, and ready cry at the slightest provocation. I have noticed a pattern in these reviews. I have some depression in my family, and had a mild bout with it in the past. OB/GYNs should be asking the patient if they have any history with depression or anxiety before prescribing, b/c Yasmin seems to bring it to the surface very quickly in these people, myself included. My doctor encouraged me to stay on it for 6 months before I made a decision to change pills. After 4 months, my face cleared up and all of the rest of the side affects went away (I still get leg cramps sometimes). My appetite returned to normal, I am much less moody than before, my period is MUCH lighter, my cramps are not as bad, and my PMS is almost non-existant. I was on Yasmin for a year and a half, and it turned my life upside down. I've always been a reasonably happy person, and was never really the "gushy" emotional type. Since I've been on Yasmin, I can't have an argument without wanting to break down and cry. I went from being content with my life to feeling empty, alone, and depressed. I felt like less of a woman since I had no sex drive at all and felt sad that I could not contribute any sort of passion in my own relationship. At first I didn't know why this was happening to me, but a friend told me about her experience on Yasmin and I started to research. Suddenly I found numerous reviews of other women's experiences on Yasmin that were similar to mine. I thought something was horribly wrong with me for the past year (which made my depression even worse), and I've recently just switched to another pill. Just be careful, is all I'm sayin | F | 25 | 18 months | 8/1/2006 | 1 | Birth control | I had to stop taking Yasmin after six weeks (a pack and a half). I had been on Ortho 777 for about 20 years was experiencing severe PMS symptoms for 14 days per month. So, the doc switched me to Yasmin. I had severe diarrhea for the entire six weeks and lost eight pounds that I didn't need to lose. I looked and felt so very ill. I had no appetite and was nauseated all of the time. By the last few days, I was experiencing panic attacks at night. I was extremely dehydrated, my skin was dry and lips were chapped. By the second pack of pills, the veins in my lower left leg began to pop out, and I was experiencing a warm sensation along the side of my shin--not warm to the touch, but warm from the inside out. After one final night of violent diarrhea and anxiety, I threw out the pills. After the first pack I phoned the doc's office and the nurse told me that it usually takes two to three months for a woman's body to adjust to a new pill. Plus the insomnia is driving me crazy. And then again, the gastrointestinal disorders are enormous (I suffer from IBS). Still, the insomnia has made my IBS worse and so has Yasmin. I still have 7 days of active pills to take but I stop today! It had been working great with no side effects, until.... I started developing horrible migraines the week of my period. Never had migraines ever before. Am considering going off because the migraines are so miserable, but not sure if it is worth the monthly periods and acne.
