1  Migraine WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Went to the ER for a migraine. Was given Compazine in an IV. Within 15 minutes, I felt like I wanted to die. I wanted to leave the hospital and rip out my IV. My mouth was so dry and I couldn't sit still. I don't know how I drove myself home. It's been four days and I still don't feel back to normal. I wish I could sue the ER doc that gave me this. F 50 1 days

1  migraine Reglan, phenergan and ativan also give me that panic feeling. It's called Akathesia and if it ever happens again, have them give you Cogentin and a couple of xanax and it will disipate within 20 minutes. They tried the benadryl route but did not help me at all. They kept telling me to sit still but it was impossible. Finally a med student came up with the Cogentin and I keep it written in my phone. Worst feeling ever! I remember having crazy thoughts like wanting to jump from the car on the way back to the ER. Totally irrational thoughts. F 45

1  nausea due to pelvic radiation sleeping more than 20 hours a day. Couldn't wake up. Couldn't stop moving my jaw or legs. While I was sleeping others observed my legs and jaw moving. Doctor told me it usually only happens in the elderly. It took days for the symptoms to go away after I stopped taking the medication. F 32 2 weeks

1  Sickle Cell and headache As they gave me the injection of compazine, they also gave me Benadryl. The nurse said that is would take my headache away and also ease my sickle cell pain. I've never been admistered this drug for my sickle cell crisis but didn't question it. As soon as the nurse left, my body immediately started feeling cold. The IV fluid felt like freezing water. I began feeling as though I had to move around to stay alive. I began yelling for the nurses and no one would respond. I began pacing the room, and eventually I ran out to the nurses station in tears asking them to get the medicine "out of my system". I wanted to commit suicide just to stop what I was feeling. The nurse took me back in the room and took my vitals. My heart was beating fast and I began to sweat. The nurse left to notify the doctor and she administered morphine, my normal treatment for sickle cell, and I immediately went to sleep. This was a horrible feeling. F 28 1 days

1  Migraine My mom was given compazine approximately 12 hours ago and it has been a nightmare. She was extremely cold, confused, kept saying "let me go" (as in 'die'), and kept trying to get out of bed to go outside. I will be sure that have the doctors put in her file to NOT give her this ever again. This experience has been a nightmare. Do NOT recommend F 57 1 days

1  Stop nausea due to migraine headach Shortly after the comazine injection, I felt abnormal nervousness. I sat down, then I had to stand up and walk around, then I had to sit down again. My body felt restless and mentally I was starting to get worried. I fet jittery, very uncomfortable. The doctors kept me in the ER for an hour under observatioin because I also had an injection of imitrix for the migraine. They gave me a second injection of imitrix, which is according to the label. I had no problem with the imitrix and I have used it successfully since then with the package for patients that comes with a self-injector. A couple years later, when I had to go to the ER again for severe vomiting due to a migraine, I told them NOT to give me compazine. They gave me a different anti-nausea medication and I did not experience any side effects. I am very glad to hear that Compazine has been removed from the market in the USA by the FDA. How on earth this medication was approved in people who do not have a speciic psychosis is unfathomable. My first dose and only dose was given in 1998. That it took this long to have Compazine removed from the market just goes to show how ineffective the FDA is. Horrible medication. F

1  Migraine Do not take this drug. I had it in the ER along with Toradol for migraine and I had the nurse stop it and take my IV out. I started having panic attacks. I was in the hospital for six days getting this under control believe me it's not worth it. I should have asked for Zofran. I regret ever going to get help that day but I was deperate for relief when my migraine med failed me at home. F 44 1 days

1  Migraines Don't take this crap. You will be jumpy and have a hard time sleeping. No sure when it will wear off but I took it at 9am and it is 1:50pm and still nothing. ER gave me Benadryl with it and didn't tell me the side effects. The nurse should be fired for that. This stuff is found in preworkout and that's why preworkout is dangerous. Can't even type right F 22 1 days

1  nausea 1. tongue swollen twice as large 2. eyes bulging and rolling 3. throat closing 4. muscles along spinal column spasmed and pulled my head as far back as it could go without breaking it off my neck 5. EXTREME TERROR (no brainer) 6. sweating profusely 7. excessively high heart rate THIS MEDICATION WAS JUST ABOUT LIFE-RUINING FOR ME. I was a kid. Thirteen years old at the time. Stomach issues and had reported nausea. Compazine was the little slice of hell they dished out to me in my IV. I have literally never been the same since that day. I have suffered chronic and severe Panic and Anxiety disorders and even Agoraphobia at one point. I am now 61. Still afraid to take ANY new drug but particularly RX drugs. I will cut the pill in half just to see if it will kill me. The doctors back then called my reaction "mini-strokes" ... even after giving me medicine to bring me around... I still had two more bouts from that one dose of the C-word ; Compazine. F 61

1  Nausea/Migraine I was at the ER for an IV drip and Compazine and about 5 minutes after having the Compazine injected I started panicking. I was sobbing uncontrollably and it felt like I needed to crawl out of my skin. I kept telling the nurse that I needed to leave and that I wanted to die. When I got home the feeling had not passed, it didn't matter what I did - stand, sit, eat, lay down, shower, I was just very uncomfortable regardless of what I did. It triggered an absolute panic attack, I will never take it again. F 19 1 days

5  Severe Nausea No side effects I know many people do not recommend this drug which I was shocked about. I have what is called Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and compazine is literally the only drug that stops my nausea. When I get an episode of my CVS, I have to be put on compazine and fluids both through my IV in order for me to get better. I have been hospitalized about 6 times in the past 4 years due to my condition and every time the doctors have given me reg land, zofran, benadryl etc in different cocktails and compazine is the one thing that never fails. Im really surprised to see it has not worked out for so many people. I have NEVER had the feeling of "crawling out of my skin" or any suicidal thoughts. I suppose everyone really is different.  1  Migraine As soon as they gave me the migraine cocktail with compazine, I went into a full blown panic attack. I had to call for the nurse twice because they did not give me a call Button. I told them I wanted the IV taken out of my arm. They kept asking me if I was sure and I told him yes that I wanted it taken out. They said that they can give me Benadryl to counteract the medicine but I told them just to take it out that I had to leave the room. Finally, once they brought me outside I was able to calm down some and they gave me some Benadryl. I'm so glad I had someone to drive me home because I was totally out of it with the medication and did not comprehend anything that was going on. Also was jittery and had no appetite to eat. When I got home, I kept falling asleep, getting up and walking around. I couldn't even stand to watch TV for only a certain limit of time. This is the worst experience ever. I would never take this medication again. I would rather have a migraine. No one should take this medication. F 40 1 days

1  Migraine headache I began to experience severe restlessness almost immediately after the IV administration of Compazine. I was unable to sit or lie still. I, particularly, felt an overwhelming need to move my legs. I was aware I shouldn't do it but I ripped out my intravenous line and fled the emergency room without being discharged. I couldn't control the urge. People who have had a bad reaction to Compazine need to be aware the same thing may happen with other medications in its class. I had similar reactions to both Thorazine and Reglan. F 45 1 days

3  Migraine The compazine made me feel somewhat disoriented and very cold. It wasn't a horrible feeling but it definitely wasn't pleasant. I was given Compazine as part of a "migraine cocktail" along with Toradol and Benadryl. It helped to greatly alleviate my migraine symptoms. F 19 1 days

1  ER visit/ headache Supra Ventricular Tachycardia I was convinced this medicine was going to kill me in the Emergency Room. I was sick, had a fever, felt light headed. I had some kind of minor virus. I never told the nurse or doctor I had a beadache, but I was young and didn't question why they wanted to give me a "headache cocktail". Within a minute of receiving a compazine and benadryl doese through my IV, I suddenly felt pure fear, and doom. I told my friend something is very wrong. My head jerked to the right, my tongue felt stiff, and my heart beat steadily went up to over 180 beats per minute. The Dr and nurse ran in, and they called for a crash cart. They gave me 2 shots to bring my heart rate back to normal. It pounded so hard I could see my chest beating up and down. I felt my heart pounding even in my nose. Finally they got me back to normal, but this episode has forever screwed me up. I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks after this. This was almost 10 years ago, and it still haunts me. These idiots need to stop giving this medicine in the ER. F 37 1 days
