HUMIRA  (ADALIMUMAB):  Adalimumab is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, ankylosing spondylitis). This medication is also used to treat certain skin disorders (such as plaque-type psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage in arthritis as well as red scaly patches in psoriasis. Adalimumab belongs to a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. By reducing joint swelling, this medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function. Adalimumab is also used to treat certain bowel conditions (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) and a certain eye disease (uveitis).    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

2  crohn's I unfortunately am the 10% of the population that experiences headaches. I took the 4 shot starter dose in 2 segments. 2 on one day and 2 the next. Headache came the 3rd day and stayed constant for 3 weeks and 2 days. i took another dose last sunday and headache came back after 19 hours and hasn't let up since. Seems that with each set, the last dose I took was the maintenance dose of 40 the headaches became stronger. I also experienced weight gain but i believe it is because my crohn's symptoms cleared up and I could eat without feeling pain. if you happen to take this and not have side effects, this is a wonder drug. I really was hoping this would work. I now am going to try Remicaide. by the way, took about 1 week for the effects on the crohn's to start working. F 37 1 months

3  RA I started taking Enbrel in Oct of 2003 when diagnosed with RA. Enbrel was a wonder drug for me. I took it until Oct 2008 and my Dr said to change to Humira because Enbrel will loose it's effect after 5 years. After I switched to Humira I have experienced blurred vision, and unsteadiness in my hands. I had bloating with Enbrel and not on Humira. I did notice weight loss of 10 pounds since I started on Humira. Also I'm having a lot of hip pains that I didn't have before. In Oct of 08 I started getting skin cancer (Squamous cell carcinoma)but I guess that started with Enbrel. My next appointment with my Rheumatologist I'm going to ask to be put back on Enbrel. There are much less side effects for me with Enbrel. The blurred vision is a big concern. M 57 5 years

3  RA I have been taking the drug for 6 months. I have had RA for 4 years and tried Enbrel previously. I am unsure if the drug is helping me yet, but in the past 2 weeks I have developed severe muscle pain and weakness in both legs and arms. My legs feel like I have run 8 miles, but I am hardly able to walk for exercise now, much less able to run any more. I want to find out how common these side effects are is and if they subside over time. F 59 6 months

1  Psoriasis Face and neck swelled up. Horrible rash from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. All over my body. Fatigue and joint in my chest and shoulders ache terribly. Started on my third week of injection. The first two weeks I was happy as my Psoriasis was looking better. Then the rash started and it was downhill from there. Very concerned about this medication on Predisone to help ease the itching. F 61 5 weeks

1  rheumatoid arthritis I am a health care worker who developed tuberculosis while taking humira. Pay attention to the TV commercials when they say side effects include serious infections such as tuberculosis. This is a dangerous drug. It lowers your body's immune system to fight infection. I am now on medication for TB. I have been a health care worker for 30 years and never had a problem before I went on humira. I have refused to go back on it or any of the other TNF medications. My pulmonologist agrees with my decision F 50 9 months

3  psoriatic arthritis headaches, lack of energy, always tired and lethargic, dizziness, bad headaches, joint pain, I forget things alot, hard to focus, vision very sensitive to light I have not been feeling like myself lately, started taking humira around 2 mos ago and thought I'd look online for common side effects and walah! Everyone else on here is experiencing the same symptoms I am. I am going to stop this shot immediately. Anyone here tried Remicade. My Dr. thinks we should try it instead F 38 2 months

2  Crohns Injection site bruising which then turns into scabs after 2 weeks. Lumps at injection sites have not gone away. I have been on Humira for 6 weeks now. Also have severe exhaustion for several days after injection. Crohns flare has become more severe rather than getting better. Wondering if I should be on Remicade instead. I was on Humira over a year ago and did have success. I went into remission for about 6 months, then developed an abdominal abcess; it went downhill from there. F 58 6 weeks

3  Psorisis Mainly sore at the injection site. I do develope a sore throat often and when I am sick I am sick times 100 compared to most people. My immune system is down drastically so I cannot fight normal infections. I supplement by taking a lot of vitamins, working out, and taking natural Noni. Very helpful. It worked within 3 months and I even did a trial run and took myself off of it for 6 months to see if the plaque would come back and it did but only slightly. I am now back on the shot and it has again taken away 90% of what was there. F 25 2 years

4  crohns I started on humira in october of 2008.I was in the hospital 3 times in 2008 because of bad flare ups. My doctor recomended humira because nothing else was working anymore(Pentasa,Imuran,Endicort)among others and i did not like the way i felt on high doses of prednizone. The first two months i had very good results but had the flew and a cold for the hole month of december. Since then I have gained a lot of weight, have a lot of joint pain especially in my shoulders, back, and feet and legs.I also have fluid retension which i think is from the medication since i never had that before.I have been taken off the drug because my doctor is going to check my heart to see if there is damage do to humira.I was wondering if anybody else has had fluid build up on this drug.It has taken away my crohns symtems but i wonder if the side effects are worse.  1  Crohn's Disease Humira did absolutely NOTHING to help my Crohn's flare! In addition, even though I signed up for the co-pay plus program, and was told I would only be responsible for $345 for the first 6 months, I am being billed over $2000 for two shipments- which I will absolutely not pay!! This program is a total fraud!!. My son, who also has Crohn's, has been participating in a pediatric clinical trial for Humira, but tomorrow, we are pulling him out- it hasn't really helped him, and and suppressed his immune system so much, he is constantly getting sick, and has seen an increase in his migraines which his neurologist says he has seen in many patients on Humira!  2  Crohn's disease Did well on Humira after first 2 shots ,2nd 2 shots, third 2 shots after 15 dqays. Day29 next time the sixth shot made me extremely ill. Severe pain all over body, bronchtis, extreme fatigue, high fever for five days.Took antibiotics for 2 weeks- and was told to skip a shot.Finished antibiotics 4 days ago and all my symptoms are back. Don't know waht to do? My doctor told me to keep taking it even after infection came back. Am frightened about doing this. Any suggestions? I really need help with this--my doctor is an idiot and am frightened. Have been taking Humira since December 4th. F 59 6 weeks

3  Crohn's & Psoriatic Arthritis Extreme fatigue! Sleeping 12-15 hrs a day and still ready for bed. Loss of motivation. Humira has relieved almost all of my moderate to severe joint pain as well as my arthritis. However, I'm not convinced it's helping my Crohn's as I'm still on Cipro and Flagyl after 4 surgeries last year. Each time I attempt to ween off these my Crohn's symptoms reappear. THE FATIGUE SIDE AFFECTS HAVE CAUSED ME TO MISS SEVERAL DAYS OF WORK TO WHERE I FEEL MY JOB IS IN JEOPARDY! M 35 4 months

2  crohns disease severe confusion for the first month, aching muscles, loss of energy, lethargy, didnt stop the cramping, diarrhea, emotional imbalance, intense migraines, constant infections i absolutely 100% hate humira. hate it hate it hate it!! i was on remicade for almost 4 years and was doing exceptional and then all of a sudden it stopped working. the doctor then switched me straight to humira. i hated injecting myself and the side effects depressed the hell out of me. i just had resection surgery three weeks ago and am doing very well. they took me off the humira and have put me on imuran. i just started it today so ill see how that goes. some people might like humira but i do not recommend it. talk to your doctor first about other options before considering this one. also its damn expensive. the only nice thing i have to say about it is medco was wonderful about getting my doses to me on time every other week. thanks medco. if you do have questions or would like to swap info please email me.  3  Ulcerative Colitis Bruise at the injection side. Severe stinging at the injection site with first dose. Terrible headache the day after injection. Serious fatigue days after injection. I can sleep for 12+ hours a night and still want to sleep most of the day. Also have had extremely stuffy head and sinuses with this last injection- not sure if its related or if I'm having sinus/allergy problems. Has anyone else expereinced this? I don't think its a sinus infection because I don't have any colored discharge or anything just all stuffed up. I started taking Humira because my idiot doctor (have a new doctor now) took me off of Remicade when it was working perfectly and I guess he wasn't very knowledgeable and didn't know that if you go off Remicade you can develop anti-bodies to it and never be able to take it again. So once I was off I started to get worse and decided to go to a different doc for a second opinion and he put me on Humira. I am doing better but don't know honestly if it is worth the side effects. I have taken 3 sets of shots so far and the first 2 came with migraine headaches the day after, burning at the injection site along with a bruise. The burning gets better if you ice the injection site and make it very cold before injection. This took away the burning altogether. I still get a small bruise though. I am extremely fatigued for several days after the injection. I can spend nights sleeping 12+ hours and still sleep all day. I did not get the headache after the 3rd injection so I am hoping that side effe F 41 2 months

3  crohn's severe muscle aches in shoulders, back, and arms - radiating to finger tips. This was such a disappointment because it really helped the Crohn's get under control in a short amount of time. I've just started with the first four injections and lucked out to experiences all of the rare side effects that are listed. I woke up in so much pain they thought I had a blood infection and did a spinal tap to check for meningitis. In the end, it was muscle paralysis and weakness. I am due for my two injections next week and am meeting with the doctor to see if we can push it out a bit until I stablize. F 40 10 days

3  Rheum arthritis I have had a sore throat for a few weeks now. I wondered had anyone else suffered from a high temp during the night? It feels kind of flu-like. No other side effects although joints don't seem much better. Have taken 5 injections now over 10 weeks. Don't particularly like the injection but small price to pay if it works. Still very tired constantly. F 52 10 weeks
