HUMIRA  (ADALIMUMAB):  Adalimumab is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, ankylosing spondylitis). This medication is also used to treat certain skin disorders (such as plaque-type psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage in arthritis as well as red scaly patches in psoriasis. Adalimumab belongs to a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. By reducing joint swelling, this medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function. Adalimumab is also used to treat certain bowel conditions (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) and a certain eye disease (uveitis).    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Crohns A progressively worsening depression and anxiety that completely changed me from an outgoing artist to withdrawn panicky shadow of my former self. Feeling ill or tired all the time, and a sudden intollerance to many medications making my depression and anxiety untreatable. It did help control my crohns, but at a terrible price. From my research, the depression and anxiety reaction to Humira is so low that the company won't even admit to it being a potential cause. In the last eight months of dealing with this, spending hundreds of dollars on medications and psychiatrists trying to treat the mental malaise, I can only assume it is the Humira. I have been a week off it and already feel a little bit like my old self. Be warned that doctors are not honest with potential side effects with this medication. M 26 8 months

5  Crohn's Disease Slight sting during injection at injection site, occasionally bleeding or swelling of site following injection, occasional bruising or tenderness of site, slight fatigue following injection. Drug worked really well for me after nearly 2 years in and out of hospital, on and off steroids and suffering intolerable side effects of azathioprine/6mp. Been on 10 months, been in remission 10 months, longest time of constant remission since diagnosis. Inject every fortnight. All over very quickly, although definitely recommend allowing medicine to warm up to room temperature prior to injection. F 22 10 months

1  Crohns Disease I have experienced Analphylaxis with both Humira and Remicade. It is the worst feeling you can imagine when you get shorness of breath and your tongue starts to swell along with your lips, face, etc. I have only taken Humira one time and the side effects of this drug is not worth the remission. I have lost tons of hair. Gained 15 lbs, have constant edema. This is all from the very first injection. When you get these side effects they do not go away for at least 2-3 months because of the half life of the meds. They reoccur every couple of days as the medicine is working through your tissues. It's making me go CRAZY! The only thing that I can say positive about this medicine is that with one booster dose it put my crohns in remission. With that said, I now have anxiety attacks because of getting the reoccurring allergy attacks. Honestly this medicine might work for some people however I have been searching for answers and I all I have seen is extreme negativism for this drug. I would never reccommend this to anyone.  5  Psoriasis NONE SO FAR Have started taking this and now taking my forth injection. No side effects as of yet but noticed after my first booster shot it was going away. As of my third shot it has cleared my skin. This med is awesome. Don't know what to expect health wise yet. So far nothing has changed that I can notice. I know everyone is different on how things work for them but I love it so far. Will post at a later date if anything comes up. SO HAPPY NOW! I can have shorts in the summer (bad on my legs) and my elbows have cleared. PS This is a real post and wish the site would have the option for pictures. M 58 30 days

1  RA ok, my doc is pressuring me really hard about taking this injection, almost angry bc I say no (bc of side effects I've read & heard!) he refuses to give me anything for pain nor help with sleep not my anxiety, so right now it is what it is (diagnosed 8 yrs ago-so yea you could imagine) not on anything but IBprofen 800, so is it or is it not worth it! I mean the side effects are not just headaches & lil something here & there... that I have anyhow, but are very severe IN MOST CASES I've read & heard(personally) so he wants me worse, he is a quack doc right? iDK I'm so tired of living!!!!! really doc are just pushing me, the RA Spec had no compassion....even told me my pain can't be that severe!  1  Psoriatic arthritis Memory loss. Not only forget to go to a meeting, but had no recollection that meeting was scheduled! I'm 54 and I stopped Humira in Jan 2015 after taking for 3 years. Had serious memory issues and was concerned about cancer down the road. My psoriatic arthritis was bad and I could not hold a tennis racket. Humira was great. No more arthritis. In January I decided to try more wholistic approach. I went gluten free (no bread and no pasta) and stopped Humira . Lost 30 pounds and now weigh 150. Have had no joint pain since I went gluten free. I am actually amazed. I miss that sour dough bread at restaurants and pasta but the risk reward is definitely worth it. M 54 3 years

5  RA I had a mild rash for a few months that I (and the dermatologist) were never ever able to figure out the cause. It went away after three months. No real side affects. Has helped immensely with the fatigue. I am very glad to not have to leave work and head for bed!!! I am also doing the autoimmune protocol diet and I feel that is helping. Maybe in a year or two I can go off the meds! (I am also on Leflunomide daily because I could not tolerate methotrexate) F 61 1 years

4  Psoriatic Arthritis Had to stop taking Humira 2 years ago due to contracting TB from a friend that was undiagnosed,. It took 6 months to get rid of TB. Now my swelling and painful joints are an issue again and psoriasis scales are returning. I do miss the benefits that Humira gave me, but the doctor recommends not going back on Humira again after having TB. M 55 2 years

5  RA Tired, sleepy, headache, itchy swollen bruise on injection site I was diagnosed with RA at 21. I had swelling and pain on most of my joints. i couldn't do things such as walk/run, move in bed, or open a water bottle. After my first humira injection I felt so much better the pain was completely gone after the second day. The pain or burning sensation from the humira is very little compared to the RA pain I had on a daily basis. So far I am thankful for this drug. F 22 10 months

5  Psoriatic Arthritis A small increase in sinus infections. Before I started I had severe pain in many joints and muscles. Couldn't walk properly, bending or sitting up/down was very difficult. On the next day after the first injection I could RUN! The improvement was completely unbelievable. It also cleared a large and persistent psoriasis during the first two months. Had only a few small and relatively short psoriasis outbreaks ever since. F 28 5.5 years

2  Psoriasis Psoriasis has gotten ALOT worse. I started out with methotrexate, it completely cleared my psoriasis but blood test show it was effecting my liver so the doctor switched me to Humira, now after 9 weeks on this drug my psoriasis has returned and it is worse then before. Will be calling Dr to see if I should switch to something else. F 64 9 weeks

4  RA I started with humira every 2 weeks. I was is very poor condition before starting limping from sore hip joint red modeling of feet and hands, cold all the time. I noticed improvement in general but after 8 days everything got painful again so my docter put me on once a week. Feeling so much better. I read the sad experiences some have had and am very sorry folks have suffered. As for myself I feel blessed to have discovered humira and hope I continue to improve. Humira is working well for me. Making me enjoy simple actions again like shopping and gardening. Being in the yard with my dog and playing with him. F 72 3 months
