Tingling lips initially. | I've taken 2 weeks of a 6+ month course to clear up sweat glands which are repeatedly getting infected (swell into hard lumps which sometimes abscess and can leave pitted scars). They have almost dissapeared now, but I need to stay on the course to give them time to heal completly inside. The next step would be surgery to remove the glands, which is not a small op, so will be persisting with tablets! The lip tingling has stopped now, and the vagueness is not as bad as it was (lasted hours initially, now perhaps an hour), but I am still getting a swollen tummy and trapped gas - but this is improving. I've found eating a decent meal around the same time helps, which is fortunate, as they seem to make me ravenous! I would warn people to take care driving when starting these tablets, as I did find I was VERY spaced out initially for a few hours after taking them. Was warned about the side effects being faily common, but shrugged them off as I'm usually fine. And I was fine - for the first couple of days, experienced slight, shortlived faintness and weak pressure on my chest, but nothing unbearable. I was happy to have something which worked. However, suddendly experienced ungodly abdominal pain that literally floored me. I never remember experiencing pain like this before. This lasted about half an hour until I emptied my system (diarrhoea). I spent the following half an hour shaking and crying in a state of shock. If it wasn't for my mother (who is a nurse) I'd have called NHS Direct in a panic. I really don't want to touch these anymore, even though I know I have to, and probably wouldn't have done if the pain lasted any longer. I think I'm going to cut the duration to 5 days and taking them at longer intervals or staggered. Half way through severe diarrhea developed along with cramps. Swollen glands and sore throat went away, but chronic diarrhea continued. Imodium, Kefir, bland diet would help temporarily, but symptoms would recur. In July stool stamples proved negative in all tests, and a oolonoscopy and an endoscopy were performed to rule out other possibilities, but lab tests found a condition called microscopic colitis. Currently I'm on a 3-month regimen of a steroid called Entocort 3 mg. capsules, three per day, drinking Kefir daily and taking GR8-Dophilus 2 per day. Symptoms are currently under control. Tapering off steroids will start soon, and we'll see. | I would never recommend Erythromycin to anyone nor would I ever take it again. I'm thinking of reducing my dosage to 1x250 mg every 6 hours to see if the diahrroea will ease up, though I will check with the doctor first. | I'd take this drug again, but from what my doctor told me, erythromycin is mainly recommended for bacterial strep, viral strep may not respond to this drug.
