I was advised to stop taking them immediately and was prescribed Amoxicillin. Over 12 hours later i'm still feeling really rough. I would rather feel the pain of childbirth, kidney stones, and a toothache at the same time than to feel the "side effects" of this poison! I called my brother (a doctor) and he said, "Why the Hell did your dentist give you that?!" He called me in some penicillan and said to stop taking Erythromycin immediately. He also said flush it out of my system with LOTS of fluids. The last dose I took was at 9am Wednesday and by 8am Thursday I finally felt normal again. Although I was scared after reading reviews here, in all, the side effects were mild and much less scary than this website implied, and certainly less bad than the illness itself. | Erythromycin contains an agent that makes the muscles in your digestive system contract. I guess that explains reported feelings of hunger, contractions, severe pain, etc. It's not a first line drug because it does have this effect. In my case, the effects were minor and THE DRUG DID ITS JOB--it completely knocked out my sinus infection's pain and fever within 12 hours of the first dose. I was told to take it with a meal to prevent nausea, and that seems to have mostly worked. I've been carrying small loaves of French bread with me and nibbling on them to ease hunger without losing my appetite. If you're reading the reviews and feeling concerned, I'd have to say, Don't be afraid to take this pill.
