| 5 | Tonsillitis | Hungry, numbness, loss of sensation. | I was taking this medication for tonsillitis. 4 x 500mg daily. I have had this before but was on 3 x 250 daily. I noticed that when I started taking the medication that my appetite was increased A LOT. I would eat and still not feel full. It would subside but only to return within an hour. I constantly felt hungry for about 2-3 days. After this, I notice that my touch sensation had muted somewhat. I was not as sensitive to touch or feeling. I even got my girlfriend to try and tickle me as normally I am a very ticklish person but I didnt feel sensitive at all. I even tried biting my hand and wrist to the point of me being able to feel it. Everyone else I suggested try this would stop within a second. I was able to bite myself so hard I left teeth marks on my skin. Even sex was not as pleasurable for me. The sensation I got was extremly dull. It felt like someone had turned my 'feeling' switch down a notch. I ended up really scared and stopped taking the medicine 2 days early. However after taking the medication for only three days the side effects became unbearable. The stomach pains were out of this world and the feeling of sickness has been so unplesant. I was taking the medication with light meals or snacks as the pharmacist recommended to reduce chances of nausea. On day 2, my first dose caused almost immediate cramping and severe stomach pain. Although I stopped taking the medication at once, I spent the rest of the day, and the following day in bed, unable and unwilling to get up. The pain was almost constant, and brought with it a lingering nauseous feeling, but no vomiting. Skim milk and plain white bread helped temper the pain temporarily. She has felt AWFUL with it - will not eat any meat and won't touch chocolate (her favourite) and her total weight loss (including what she lost with the food poisioning) 1/6 of total body weight. Suddenly experienced strong stomach pain followed by diarrhea in the evening. Felt awful. Will phone surgery in morning to hopefully find substitute. Another 16 pills left in the blister packs! Dread the thought of having to take any more of this medicine. | Initially very red and burning lump on end of elbow calmed down and receded somewhat, but large area of skin around it is now pink and itchy. Diarrhea caused by Erythromycin probably makes effective digestion of drug into my system unlikely anyway. Now even more worried about infection though. Constantly tired and weak as well, I just want to sleep. While it took care of the bronchitis the side effects left me feeling run down almost as though I had the flu. However, I did end up with a yeast infection (but that is normal for antibiotics and my system). Cleared up my bronchitis though. I just can't wait to get off these pills (500mg 2x's /day)!
