| 1 | Acne | felt a very depressed and 'teary' the first few days. felt VERY hungry all the time. couldn't sleep at night but felt constantly tired. worked relatively well for about 3 weeks, but LOADS of little tiny spots/bumps have appeared all over my face (which is just as bad as the acne itself) and my body acne is just as bad as ever. skin is the greasiest that its ever been, i need to blot at least once every hour now. told doctor it wasn't improving and she told me to just continue treatment. really not enjoying this drug. | i wouldn't recommend it. i tried tetralysal and it worked much better although sadly stopped after a while. the physical and mental side effects of erythromycin are crippling. | F | 19 | 6 months 250mg 2X day | 2/19/2010 | 4 | Strept Throat | Weakness, severe nausea, stomach cramps | NEVER take this drug on an empty stomach, always eat a big meal first. I am alergic to penicillan, this drug (bad as it is) is great. I have been using this drug when I get sick for over 30 years. While it is killing all the bad bugs in your system, it is killing the good ones in your intestines, that is why all the intestinal problems. I am usually good for about 3 days before the bad side effects set in. Usually by the 6th day I am too sick to take it anymore, but by then I am cured. It works, it's cheap and you can keep it for a long time in the freezer. DO NOT CHEW IT - it will take hours to get the taste out of your mouth. It is like taking a big drink of the nastiest, smelliest, scum-covered cowpond you could ever find. Maybe it's because I'm taking a high dosage of it daily, but I've never experienced such stomach pain in my life. The pharmacist told me I should eat before taking the medication to lessen the stomach pains, and even on a very full stomach I am experiencing horrible stomach pains. It's about 4 in the morning and my last dosage was at about 11PM. I've tried researching ways to lessen the effects of stomach pain caused by erythromycin to no avail. The 'slight stomach upset' my dr warned me about would have been ok, but it wasn't slight at all. I might even fill in a yellow card report about it, because no everyday medication should cause that level of pain, specialy when you're already sick. This is a very strong, and potentialy very dangerous drug, that if given at all, should only be given under 24 hour supervision in a hospital. I thought that this dosage was high compared to the dosage id always been prescribed by my GP but took them anyway. I thought at first that I had caught a stomach bug and that it was just a coincidence but I actually suffered side effects. So glad to read that other people have suffered them too as I am still feeling really nauseous but have not been sick since this morning as I stopped taking the pills last night.
