Because I had no known infection this drug caused me (on day 10 of dosage) to go to the Emergency Room from dehydration, nausea, diareah. I think it harmed my immune system. Do not take this drug. | My dentist (Ehsan Rezvan, Gilroy, Calif) mis-prescribed this drug and ordered me to take a large dose, the strongest possible for 12 days, when I had no infection. My health was in serious trouble until the ER got IV's into my collapsed veins. The dentist has not taken responsibilty. My research with the pharamecutical company shows that this drug is for "RESISTANT PNEUMONIA" and certainly NOT for for people WITHOUT infection and who have (or had) a healthy immune system. Isn't this exactly how bacteria become "resistant" to these drugs? The worst part is that I am still experiencing muscle weakness, tremors and a loss of fine motor control from the 4 doses of Augmentin. I was a strong, active person before Augmentin, and I hope it didn't permanently rob me of my health. DO NOT TAKE THIS!! It is not medicine. It is very toxic to you and not worth the risk. I was diagnosed by the hospital with a severe inner ear infection that had created a fluid "sack" that had built up and was pressing on my lymph nodes causing a severe vascular migraine. After just 2 doses of Augmentin, I was having diarrhea every 20-30 minutes, nauseous, feeling "out of it," lethargic, and depressed. I was NOT feeling this way before Augmentin, so this was not a result of my infection. The infection caused serious pain, yes, but not the other effects. The Augmentin also made me have no appetite and as a result of that + the diarrhea and vomiting and nausea, I lost 6 lbs. in just 3 days, which is terrible because I am very slight to begin with. I also have low blood sugar, so the effects of the drug compounded that. This is a TERRIBLE drug and made me feel 100 Xs worse than I was already feeling. I even had to make an emergency appointment at an on-call clinic overnight because I felt so woozy from the diarrhea and nausea. It was very scary. I would NEVER recommend this drug. I think Keflex is an amazing alternative antibiotic drug option (at least for me) and does not cause (me) any side Fx.
