ALEVE  (NAPROXEN SODIUM):  Naproxen is used to relieve pain from various conditions. It also reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis, bursitis, and gout attacks. This medication is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking your body's production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation. If you are treating a chronic condition such as arthritis, ask your doctor about non-drug treatments and/or using other medications to treat your pain. See also Warning section. Some brands of sustained-release naproxen take longer to be absorbed and are not recommended for pain that needs quick relief (such as during a gout attack). Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about your particular brand.   FDA Approval Date: 1994-01-11 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  Sciatic nerve pinch and disc injury Hard to determine if it's related to the medicine, but I feel a little light headed, almost seasick. I tend to take it with 2-3 200 MG Ibuproffen, as this combination seems to work the best for me, without any severe problems. Aleve alone doesn't seem to stop the referred leg pain caused by the pinched nerve. I am a little worried about the possible risks of suddenly stopping use of it. I would recommend it (with caution) if you have nerve pain. You may need to team it up with other drugs like asprin or ibuproffen M 34 14 days

3  Morning headache Had an allergic reaction consisting of itchy hands at first then all over. My heart started beating hard and fast then hives all over my body. Symptoms subsided after about two hours. This was the first time I had a reaction to Aleve and may have been caused due to the fact that I took it on an empty stomach. M 39 1 days

1  aches and pains The first time I took Aleve I started to itch and then noticed that my body was covered in hives. I took Atarax which took all itching and hives away. At the time I didn't think it was a reaction to Aleve, but thought maybe it was a reaction to a new food I never had before. A couple of weeks later I took Aleve again because I had been in a car accident and felt achy. Within minutes my thoat and tongue started to swell, my blood pressure dropped and my body turned a deep red. The paramedics gave me benadryl and then I actually started to have convulsions. I only took Aleve 2 times in my life. Aleve is naproxyn which I had taken several times over the years with no reaction at all. F 49

5  Headaches I developed an allergic reaction to it. My eyes swelled to the point where I could not open them, my lips swelled quite a bit as well, and I experienced general swelling to my entire face. I had to go to the ER for a shot of Benedryl to counteract the allergy. I had taken it on and off for about a year for various aches and pains without any trouble. It was the only OTC pain reliever that worked for my headaches. F 33 12 months

5  arthritis not sure but my blood pressure started to become high which previously never had a blood pressure problem. Stopped aleve and blood pressure went down. Started taking tylenol arthritis. Tylenol did not relieve my symptoms as well as Aleve. My doctor originally told me to take Aleve. I took one in the AM and 1 at PM. Now I have been alternating with tylenol and aleve. Is there a connection to Aleve causing high blood pressure in some people? F 68 1 years

5  migraine, menstrual & muscle pain I am concern now with all the latest reports, but I´ve never had any side effects, and it is so perfect to me, it would be terrible not to have it. I take it with Dramamine when I have migrane and it works better than costly prescription drugs, that have less effect over my migraines. F 35 10 years

5  aches and pains of age and work Have absolutly NO SIDE EFFECTS, this is the ONLY MEDICATION I have taken in the past 10 years. I don't really trust all the NEW? medicines that have come about in the past few years...Most of the trouble people have is mixing half a dozen different medications..But, with Aleve I just have one pain medicine AND NO COMPLICATIONS, TAKEN EVERY DAY FOR TEN YEARS.....  1  Arthritis My grandfather took Aleve for about 6-12 months. He ended up with bleeding ulcers and a ruptured vein. He died on the operating table of a massive heart attack which according to the studies that I have read, can be attributed to a sudden stop in taking the medicine. I urge anyone taking this medicine to excersize extreme caution. I am including his age and gender in this study. M 73 8 months

5  Headache; pain from injury I would advise those known allergic reactions to aspirin or similar medications to be cautious. However, about 12 years back, I had severe allergic reactions to aspirin and pain relievers (other than Tylenol) - hives all over my body, severe swelling, etc. My doctor told me that although I was experiencing allergic reactions to these medications that many times these reactions stop. This was the case for me. I can now take all medications without experiencing allergic symptoms (I discovered this through trial - not something that is probably the best idea). In any case, I have not experienced any major side effects with Aleve, although be sure to take with a full glass of water as recommended to avoid upset stomach. I am currently taking Aleve for an injury I sustained from a fall. It works great - quickly reduces the pain and swelling from the injury and works over a sustained period of time consistently (doesn't noticably F 28 2 days

4  arthritis and migraines None except for occasional indigestion. Worked great for headaches, arthritis and sinus pain. I seem to build up a tolerance to it though, if I have taken it for an extended period of time. Then it stops working for me, and I have to take celebrex instead, for the arthrtitis pain F 47 4 years

3  Joint/Muscle Pain Inflamed mouth tissue, nausea and light-head. It assisted in taking the edge off the pain for quite some time (I've used Aleve on and off for the past year), but the side effects I'm now experiencing will have me going back to Tylenol. My gums are red and inflamed--it feels like I burned the inside of my mouth on something hot--but the pain and discomfort has yet to subside. F 35 2 weeks
