All my various aches & pains mostly kept me awake at night, so I would take one at bedtime. After several months I found that I was taking one every night (still no problems). I had heard that prolonged usage could be a problem, but my doc said "No". Now (after about 5 mos nightly usage) he says it is what has kicked in my extreme chest pains - reflux (thought I was having a heart attack!) - and aggravated my long dormant IBS. So I say use it cautiously, watch out for the allergic reactions mentioned here, but even if you tolerate it, take a break from using it! | M | 53 | 6 months | 10/17/2007 | 1 | headaches | I have taken Aleve several times in the past and have had no problems with it. A few days ago I took two Aleve for a headache. A short time later my top lip started swelling up. I didn't think much of it at first, took a Benadryl and it went away. The next day my lips and throat swelled up to triple there normal size, hives starting appearing everywhere, my hands got swollen, red, and itched like crazy. I will NEVER take this medication again...obviously, and I strongly advise everyone to take all of these warnings seriously! Purchased the Aleve because regular store did not have the Naproxon. Took Benadryl went to bed continued benadryl until next morning...Also experienced sweats, dizzyness overall fog..started to get much better within 30 hours, but had a headache and took another Aleve, Hives started again, but very minor, but then got the "sausage lips", sinus heavyness, tired, blah feeling, as though I were having a really bad menstral cycle... now, day 3, friend just noticed my lips and mentioned right away that same happened to her and she has allergic to Naproxon and Alev | Sure wish I knew if my sympotms were from Aleve or anything with Naproxon... I experienced massive hives, red - itchy skin, swelling all over, rapid heart rate, rapid shallow breathing, nausea, feeling faint, loose bowels, tingling feeling all over, burning sensation on hands and feet - to name a few. Two days ago I took two aleve. Within 30 minutes, my stomach twinged and I had two full B.M.'s. At that time, I began turning red and swell all over. Every part of me itched. Even my face felt like it was on fire. My throat was dry and chest was hurting. I felt faint. Rescue squad administered Benadryl and one other medication and started a 1000 cc drip. BP was 85/55 after the initial first aid. Hospital administered prednisone and vitals were monitored for several hours. I was released with BP 104/55, which is considerably low for me. Within 24 hours, I had a slight relapse and ended up back in the emergency room. Although the ER termed this severe allergic reaction, my symptoms were identical to a case of anaphylactic shock I had a dozen years ago following a bee sting. | This drug needs to be removed from the market and the manufacturer held accountable. | F | 56 | 1 days | 8/21/2007 | 1 | lower back pain | I got to work and took two Aleve for some mild back pain. I have only taken Aleve one other time but my husband had left a bottle of Aleve in the car so I took it instead of the Advil that I normally take. First time severe hives sent me to ER, but I did not attribute to Aleve. Second time . . .too coincidental . . . another case of severe hives.
