| 1 | headache | i expericed swelling of the lips to the point where they became very itchy and started to get hives in the lower part of the lips.. this happened just 5 min after aleve was taken ... its been three days and the swelling just went down but now my lips are super dry and purple... its not the first time its happened. i had gone to the doctor before and never knew what my reactions were to it he beleived it was either a lipstick i was wearing not knowing that aleve was taken almost every month to relieve my cramps before my period and i as thinking it was my hormones that would make my lips swell along with the itching... so i stopped wearing lipstick for a month and not till jul 31st that i decided to take aleve i finally figured out that it was that what had been causing the reaction every single month before my period... please be careful.. its such a horrible eperience... | im glad i found out it was aleve what i was reacting to i will never ever take it again ... horrible experince. | F | 22 | 12 months | 8/3/2009 | 1 | disslocated knee | crippling lower back pain and vommitting as if i had food poison. i had to miss 2 weeks of school and work from the weakness and pain | it should be taken off the market. there are many other drugs that can replace it or it should be fixed. | F | 22 | 1 days | 8/1/2009 | 1 | headache | ten minutes after i took them my scalp started itching like crazy, then my eyes swoll almost shut and my face swelled, then my crotch area started itching like crazy, then my body started to turn red like it was sunburned and itch something fierce. then i started to feel nausaes and threw up on the way to the hopsital. | i have taken aleve for years and never had a problem or reaction ever... this came out of nowhere... the doctor told me to stay away from aleve and motrin as they are both naproxene. scared the crap out of me. | M | 48 | 10 years | 7/29/2009 | 1 | hip was out of place | sudden tiredness, red and hot all over, couldn't breathe, heart was racing, dry eyes, burning sensation of the lips, and I couldn't move or speak. | this was the first time that I have ever taken aleve. my hip was out of place and i was waiting for my appointment to see a chiropracter the next day. She said to take 2 doses of 2 a day but this seemed high to me so I rarely did, up until this week when I was tired of looking at my swollen foot and also had a bit of a headache. I began to have a little rash and a swollen lip which I attributed to being out in the sun since I was on vacation. Maybe it was a mix of both but that night and the next am, I had facial swelling around my eyes, nose and bottom lip. I went to the ER and am taking hormoes and Zyrtec to hopefully get rid of it. So strange! I never had this reaction to Aleve before, but I also never took so much of it (though it was prescribed to me by my Dr.) Never again. I jumped into a shower hoping to rinse away whatever was ailing me and while the water seems to sooth the symptoms; I soon noticed my skin was developing puffy patches that were red, irritated and hot to the touch; it actually appeared as if I was suffering from severe sunburn. I thought I might have had the water in the shower on too hot, so I rinsed from head to toe with cool water, but the hive like rash crept upward soon covering my entire body... no long after I began feeling unsteady and I noticed I was shaking so I struggled to get dressed, thinking I might be needing to go out and about in search of some help. The itching was so intense I could not function… frustrated and struggling against the urge to itch, I | so I decided to sit this one out alone… Alone I sat at the computer and thought maybe I should try to figure out what this is… I tapped a few key words into my computer and it took less than two minutes to make the connection, so here I am…. it's been over two hours since these symptoms started; my extremities still burn a bit, my tongue slightly enlarged and my eyes still itch but my skin has returned to it's normal color and I didn’t loose my sense of humor. I must say I still think this medication is great! When I packed for my year long adventure, Aleve was a must take with me item… With several more months to go before I will return to civilization, I am holding on this medication! With help, I got up again in an effort to go to the bathroom. I fainted backward. My arms started shaking, and I started seizing. I woke again in a few minutes and crawled to the bathroom. I was burning up with the heat on my body. 911 was called. My blood pressure was 59/38. Hives started all over my body with severe itching. I was taken to the hospital. They gave me an injection of Benedryl and a steroid. Slowly, I returned to normal In 3 hours, I could walk without assistance. I will NEVER take Aleve again. Both times, April 1 and last night the symptoms were similar. Approximately 15-30 minutes after taking two Aleve I experienced a swelling sensation inside my mouth, throat and chest causing chest congestion, trouble swallowing and a fluidy sensation in the throat I couldn’t get rid of. On April 1 all of the above was preceded by rapid heart beat (palpitation) that wouldn’t slow down and shortness of breath. As a lay person I can’t confirm that Aleve caused the heart palpitation or shortness of breath but the other symptoms mentioned initially above were definitely caused by Aleve on both dates. | I will never take Aleve again.
