OZEMPIC  (SEMAGLUTIDE):  Semaglutide is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Semaglutide is similar to a natural hormone in your body (incretin). It works by causing insulin release in response to high blood sugar (such as after a meal) and decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes. If you use insulin, semaglutide is not a substitute for insulin treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 2017-12-05 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  Weight loss I have had nausea daily, constipation, fatigue. Developed extreme body aches and ended up in ER with dehydration and a CK over 400. Needed IV fluids and Toradol. The dr ordered Zofran for nausea. I've lost 15 lbs. my appetite is suppressed and can only eat small amounts at a time. Some foods don't taste the same. Have belching and hiccups. Another commenter said "shame on those taking Ozempic for weight loss" but in defense, my blood pressure was elevated, as was my cholesterol level, have a family history of diabetes. I have tried other methods of weight loss that did not work for me. Even though the side effects are difficult, I'm going to keep trying the injections. F 65 2 months

1  Pre diabetic Started Ozempic @.25mg x4 weeks, on this dosage noted sxs of nausea & vomiting the day after injection. Week 5 increased to 0.5mg dosage, next day experienced sudden onset of severe nausea & vomiting. Over the next few days, vomiting became so severe & uncontrollable, I was seen in ER & hospitalized x3 days, discharged back home & nausea & vomiting continued. After 4 days of these sxs & severe dehydration, went back to the ER & hospitalized x4 days. Required IV fluids, &other replacement supplements due to severe vomiting that required 3types of anti-nausea meds to control the sxs. Day 12 following the dosage 0.5mg injection, I was finally able tolerate eating & drinking by mouth. This medication may be okay for those with chronic diabetes but for me it was a living hell especially with the 0.5mg dosage. How long does this medication stay in your system? F 22 5 weeks

1  Insulin resistance/obesity Took it Sunday evening. Monday morning early I was so sick. Very nauseous, fatigued, bad headache, face pressure, & sore throat. I had a vagel response 3 times that day until evening. To the point of almost passing out. Flu like symptoms. I stayed in bed all day & most of next day. During this past week I have been nauseous all day, no appetite, fatigued. Belching & felt bloated. I have been taking Zantac & baking soda water. Had a good bowel movement the first morning and none since then(7 days). I have more pain than usual with my autoimmune disease. Today I am Suppose to take my 2nd dose. I am not taking it. With my side effects & reading others side effects this medicine can not be good for you. I had told my Dr. That I was starting the Carnivore diet in 2 days. I do not know why she would put me on this knowing that. After reading up on this med. and says foods to avoid is greasy/fat foods. That is a big part of Carnivore diet. You know you just can not trust anyone and need to do your own research. F 70 7 days

3  Weight loss I started on .25 and gradually moved up to 2mg after i had tolerated 4 weeks of 1mg. My side effects leading up to 2mg was typical nausea, headache and unlike most severe constipation. The first week of 2mg. I was so sick. My bp was extremely high i had chest and back pain. I also have experienced allergy like symptoms. My scalp and skin itching without any visible rash. Im also experiencing hair loss and im not sure if it's because of the medication. Im now back on 1mg and tolerating it for the most part, but im not loosing much weight. Im 5'3 and was over 200pds and now i range between 185 189. Im desperate to loose weight. I never had issues with my weight until 20 years ago when i was diagnosed with low thyroid. Even though my blood work shows my thyroid is under control i wonder if that could be affecting my progress. Please feel free to email me if you have had similar experience with ozempic.  2  T2Diabetic Muscle soreness in my chest, flu like symptoms, very fatigued and lethargic. I had been on previously .25 which was OK & sensed it made me limit my food intake some. But twice now the Dr.'s wanted me to increase to .5 levels. Each time I only increased the medicine to 50% increase. And, each time I had very bad side effects! Find your sweet spot and stay on that?  3  T2D Started on the .25mg and experienced fatigue, dizziness and constipation. I then started on the .5 mg dosage, after this first increase I experienced flu like symptoms and upper respiratory symptoms that lasted nearly 3 weeks. After the 3rd dose of the.5mg I had the sulfur burps, flatulence, and diarrhea to the point of having stool leakage and not making it to the bathroom on time. The diarrhea was so bad I had to be checked for c diff. Headaches at night and upon waking, with increased heart rate and increased b/p. Feeling unmotivated and lethargic to the point of lying on the couch doing nothing. This was prob from not eating. I am a 54 yr old female and a nurse. I started ozempic to help get my A1C /T2D under control. I feel that this med with the side effects of wt loss is so beneficial to others like myself who usually come along with other problems such as HTN, Heart Disease, elevated liver enzymes, over wt ect.. BUT I feel like the dosing needs to be titration slower and at smaller intervals with my experience and what other pt are describing as well. I have actually missed work d/t being so sick from the side effects of this drug. I have talked to my physician about these side effects and basically getting dismissed and was told to take 2 other meds to help with the side effects, let me tell you this is how people end up at the hospital or a dr office with a list of meds a mile long, this is unacceptable. I will be dialing myself back to.25 as this has really brought down my blood sugar levels. I will also be seeing endocrinology for my T2D and not my family physician. This drug along with the diet changes and exercise could really help people get their blood sugars and wt under control. I would really like to see the establishment for once being more involved than a 15 min visit and saying I have never heard of that or stating well thats not a side effect, youve been taking it for a while, that doesnt happen This could really benefit diabetics in the long run.  5  pre diabetic in the begining I would experience stomach upset the first 24 hours. I started 0.25mg for 4 weeks. Currently I have a little bit of heartburn/indigestion I take peppermint tablets and if needed zantac. Every 4 weeks I would increase my dose. It has been 24 hours since I have started the 1mg and I have not had any severe symptoms. I have dropped from 235 to 220 so far. F 43 4 months

3  Weight loss 24 hours after injection, stomach sore to touch, constipated, belching, acid reflux. Returned to doctor, gave me lactulose and said stay on it, doctor says side effects will get better after I relieve constipation. Trying for 3rd week. It took me 20 years to get to this up to this weight, hopefully I can put up with side effects to loose it. My eating is down, I get full easier. F 65 20 days

1  Pre-Diabetic / Weight Loss Just spent 2 nights in an Emergency hospital, with acute kidney failure caused by severe dehydration brought on by violent diarrhea and vomiting. My blood pressure on admission to hospital had fallen to 63/46, I've never felt so sick in my entire life.. Started to feel nauseous from day 1 but stuck with the program, after 4 weeks I upped the dose (as directed by my doctor) to 0.5mg, that's when it all started to spiral out of control.. The first signs of things going wrong was the burping which was vile (tasted like sulfur / rotten eggs), then the bloating and farting, followed by violent diarrhea (so frequent and voluminous that it was impossible to replace lost fluid quick enough), finally I passed out whilst sitting on toilet, got myself back up again and immediately passed out again, had I not gone to ER at this point, I really think I would have been in real trouble.. Weight loss in 5 weeks was 20lbs (most of which fell out of my ass) regained 5 pounds in hospital after re-hydration.. There are far less dangerous ways of losing weight and reducing blood sugar levels.. Ozempic is not for me. M 59 5 weeks

1  Weight loss The side effects were bad! I had to stop after 2 doses. Daily nausea, headaches, dizziness , eye pain. Overall I felt awful. After stopping it one week ago I still have the side effects. I've had to put a lot of things on hold because I have to sit or lie down a lot. For me , this is a nightmare. I've used other diets with and with out meds but this has been the worst. I am not a quitter and didn't want to but I feel awful. Not sure how long it takes for side effects to go away. F 70 4 weeks
