The 9 year old is not affected at all by the over eating side effect. Overall, I think it is a great drug. | My sons take it, one is 9 years old and is usually hyperactive/manic all day -1/2 of a 25 mg 2X a day calms him down to where is is not climbing the walls and seems to be able to think a little straighter and seems much happier and more at peace. He actually seems to concentrate a little better with small doses spread out throught the day. Sometimes the 1/2 in the day makes him to sleepy though, so we have even cut it into 1/4 2x a day and that seems to really do the trick. He also takes 250 mg of depakote at night and another 50 mg of seroquel at bedtime. He is not groggy in the morning. He is so much more loving and kind when he takes it. You can tell when he did not take it. It is very obvious. I also give them both vitamins and fish oil. My other son is 11 and takes 100 mg seroquel at night, he has taken it for 2 years and it has been a miracle drug for him. He actually sleeps well at night since beginning it. I felt extreme drowsiness, an almost out-of-it, loopy, stoned feeling (without any of the positives). Occassional dizziness, substantial unwanted increase in appetite, as well as memory loss, and an obnoxious heavy feeling in my eyes and forehead. | I never took more than 25 mg of this medication. That is essentially a baby dose for seroquel. At one point, I tried 50 mg, and that level was absolutely intolerable. All of the aforementioned side effects were greatly increased to the point where I felt like I was walking in a fog. Even at the 25 mg, I never felt like myself, the supposed "manic symptoms," if anything, were WORSENED, by anxiety/agitation caused by the myriad unpleasant side effects. If one wants to feel absolutely disorganized, unfocused, quite frankly, stupid, then I would recommend this medication. Otherwise, for anxiety or ADHD (my true primary issues), this medication is just asking for trouble. I cannot imagine taking more than 50 mg of this drug (and I have an extremely high tolerance for most medications), but for some whose symptoms truly warrant seroquel, I can appreciate that.
