| 5 | Endometriosis | Hot flashes MAJOR!! And big time lack of sex drive...which is SOOO no like me!! weight gain in the abdominal area, kind of like a guys beer belly :( | I found my miracle drug!! I'm 27 Y.O and have had endometriosis for about 10+ years...severe bleeding to the point that I'd pass out, severe pain to the point of missing school and work, it was miserable...then my Dr. told me about Lupron and I agreed to take the regimen. Ends up that's just what I needed, I took my last of 6 shots October 29th and I'm now waiting to see what will happen now, I haven't restarted my menstrual cycles to know if there will be any pain but that's definitely not a problem, I just wish the sex drive would come back SOON, and so does Hubby!! | F | 27 | 6 months | 12/5/2005 | 5 | Endo | Hot flashes/sweating, fatigue, irritability, mood swings, weight loss, exhaustion | I have two months to go on this, and although it's not as bad as I had thought it would be, I can't wait to be off of it. I just hope that the pain doesn't come back. I honestly would do this therapy again down the road, but it makes for a rough time. The hot flashes and sweating aren't so bad---being exhausted all the time is the hardest. I started losing weight and have been eating junk food to try to fatten myself up. The nurse told me I should be exercising, but I'm so tired all the time, my joints ache, and I don't want to lose any more weight! My first surgery wasn't succesful due to the severity and build-up of the tissue. I honestly wanted a hysterectomy, but because I haven't had kids, my doctor advised Lupron---(at this point I'd rather adopt.) TAKE NOTE OF THE TIME YOU GET AN EXTREME FLASH, you will notice that they happen around the same time everyday! In the beginning, some extreme headaches, but they subsided once in the second to third month. Can't say that I miss having my period, I only had one short cycle in the first one to two months. The relief of the PAIN I would be in means alot however, in spite of the 20lbs+ that I gained. I too mostly gained around the mid-section. I have never been this size in my life! So be ware on that! I also don't have much of a sex drive, not sure if its the meds or not but I think I'm more detached than ever! Night sweats are also a factor, I sleep with a fan blowing directly on me at night, every night! I still have another month to go and I am scheduled for the last shot the end of next week. I have had mild hot flashes and tend to get hotter easier. My husband seems to think I have mood swings, my doctor prescribed lexapro when I got my first shot to help with the mood swings. The side affect I dislike the most is the weight gain. I have put on anywhere between 10-15 pounds but most seems to have come on after the second shot in September. I would suggest keeping a workout schedule to try to keep weight gain to a minimum from the beginning. I have been trying to lose weight while on the shot and nothing seems to give. Overall I would say the Lupron shot has worked very well, I can live with a little extra weight. | F | 27 | 6 months 2X O | 11/14/2011 | 4 | severe endometriosis | I just took my 3rd month shot yesterday. Honestly, I only experienced severe pain during my menstrual cycles. I mean it was debilatating pain. It wasnt until I started taking this shot that the pain stopped immediately. No periods, no cramping, mild hot flashes, mild night sweats. Nothing too bad. Sometimes i feel like I am losing my mind, i forget a lot of stuff. Oh and my sex drive is all there, but I am very dry, like shredded wheat. But nothing a little lube wont solve. I am halfway done with the treatment so my prayer is that things will be a whole lot better for me when trying to conceive. I will be getting married in 2 months so a pregnancy after this treatment would be the perfect gift for me and my soon to be husband. i have not experienced any weight gain, maybe some water weight. Overall I am happy with it thus far. The only reason i rated it a 4 was because i am not finished with the treatment so i dont know if it helped me a great deal yet. but i am very satisfied so far n | I've noticed in reading a lot of different forums, that the shot seems to have a different effect on women older than 30. I notice in the blogs that they experience a lot of pain and the side effects are far worse. I wonder if this can be a factor in considering taking this medication. One should also take into consideration that there are more negative reviews than positive reviews, so that may be a factor as well. Also I was advised that it is recommended that this treatment be only done once and that this is only a temporary cure, 3 - 5 years. I am a recent survivor of pulmonary embolisms in both lungs as a result of birth control and had fears of taking this medication. I was advised that the hormone that causes the embolisms (like that in BC) is not in this shot, HOWEVER, the pills they give you to ward off the side effects DOES include this hormone and one should not take it if you have had previous issues with blood clots. Even still while on this medication, i am very cautious and pay a lot of attention to cramps and breathing for safety's sake. At the end of the day, there is no harm in trying this medication. I would have went to the end of the world and back to find a cure for the pain i was having. Its always worth a try, but it is never worth your life. Pay attention to the side effects and and your body. The doctor told me that I should not have anymore pain after my third shot. He gave me add back therapy for the hot flashes and other side effects but I have only taken them for three days. So far I haven't seen any change. I haven't had any break through bleeding because I am on an add back medication. I am also on an anti-depressant which has helped with the mood swings I guess. I have noticed some relief in the pain.
