LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  Endo. Hot flashes, decreased sex drive, moodiness, weight gain I personally loved this med. The first month was pretty rough, period was extremly heavy and painful. After second shot it got much better, I was finally pain free and period free for five wonderful months. The only bad thing was the sex drive went away and I guess I was very moody, hubby didn't like me very much and asked for divorce, but we worked through it. I didn't notice a difference in myself but he certainly did. F 30 6 months

4  Fibroid No side effects to report I received a 3 month lupron injection on 10/19/07. I took lupron to shrink a fibroid. I had an abdominal myomectomy on 12/20/07. The lupron shrunk my fibroid by 30%. I really cannot report having a negative time with lupron. I didn't experience weight gain, didn't notice a decrease in my sex drive whatsoever. I actually lost weight during the time I have been on lupron. I stayed active and worked out. I suffered from migraines prior to taking lupron and didn't experience any more headaches than usual. As a matter of fact, I had less b/c my period often brings on a migraine. Overall I am satisfied with my treatment as it did exactly what my dr said it would do and after I recover from my surgery my husband and I can look towards starting a family. Right now I am on just looking forward to my period coming back. It is important to educate yourself before taking any medicine. Also, it is important to note that you will rarely run across websites praising any particular dr F 30 12 weeks

4  Endometriosis, Severe Pain Night sweats, Hot flashes, Loss of Appetite, Excessive Tiredness, Mood Swings, Diarrhea, Very Mild Acne I have only been on this drug for twelve days, but I wanted to write a review anyway. I received a three month injection in one shot; the shot did not hurt at all. I was very tired for the first ten days, then felt amazing on my eleventh day. And then on the twelfth day I wanted to die. I got my period and I experienced more uterine pain then I have ever felt before, but my doctor did warn me that symptoms may be worse within the first two weeks due to how the hormones work. Even though I was in extreme uterine pain, I had no fever, no joint pain, and very minimal bleeding. Usually I would get a fever, joint pain, and such bad bleeding for about three days during my period, after which I would just contend with joint pain and excessive bleeding. The uterine pain was only present for twenty-four hours (thank God), and taking a large amount of ibuprofin combined with a heating pad helped. Already I have hardly any pain with urine and bowel movements, and my bleeding has significantly lessened. I have been experiencing mood swings, but I recognize them, so I can control them. I am also on an add-back drug, Aygestin, and I am thinking that it is helping calm the crazy side effects I have read about. So far, I'm happy. I have experienced Diarrhea, but I've had that for years, since I have gastrointestinal issues. Before Lupron Depo and Aygestin, I already experienced night sweats, hot flashes, excess facial hair and other such undesirables that go with hormone issues. F 30 12 days

4  Endometreosis I had hot flashed and night sweats. They were not too bad but were annoying especially after 6 months. I only had a couple emotional moments but I am a very stomg minded individual. I did not have horrible symptoms to begin with. My husband and I have been TTC for 3.5 years now and I had a laparoscapy and they found my bowel, fallopian tube, and 1 ovary bound together and covered in endo and scar tissue. I was put on Lupron 3.5 once a month for 6 months. My lovely 6 months has now ended and I am curious to get some feedback on how long it took women to start their period. March 16th was the 28th day after my last shot. My husband and I are extactic to begin trying again but I am hearing some women can take up to a year to start most within 3-6 months. But they say some start in a few weeks. I am hoping some ladies out there can give me some input. But I can say that the side effects were not to imbearable so I will know how well it all worked once my periods start again or I am prego. I pray for the prego, this has been one long frustrating journey. F 30 6 months

4  stage 5 endo, took last shot(6th) HOT FLASHES, headaches,VERY LOW sexual libido, I think I might be crazy at times, joint and muscle pain, very foggy at times Well any time you take medicine there are always side effects, like anything some works for some and not others. I was in so much pain that it interferred with everyday things. I have got relief from this medication, with some costs. Sometimes I feel depressed and sometimes not. I am in nursing school, and I understand that with medication there is always a risk. My motto is try it if it doesn't work don't take it or if it does and there are side effects, try and outway if it is worth it. I took my last shot of my six month treatment one week ago. I am just praying that I will be fine again (minus pain), for a little while. I want to FEEL like myself again. Not cloudy, depressed, or not sexual aroused. I just want everyone to know that it really!!! has helped. If you have endo you understand of the kind of pain that it brings. Being a future nurse/ health care provider I hope that one day there will be a cure for this, because it affects so many women. I am going to leave my e-mail add F 30 6 months

4  Uterine Fibroids/Myomectomy I am experiencing hot flashes but they are not that bad. Also vaginal dryness. I'm taking my 2nd shot on 7/31 The bulge in my side from the fibroid has gone down some. It doesn't feel like it used to. I'm hoping to shrink the size of the uterus and the fibroids to have a myomectomy and keep my uterus in tact to have children. The side effects haven't bothered me like they've done others. The hot flashes are bothersome but they pass rather quickly. My period was light but lasted longer than what I'm used to. Now I have some real minor spotting which is okay. I hope it stops the period. F 30 30 days

4  uterine fibroids I went on the Lupron to shrink my fibroids before surgery. I was 29, and very nervous about what it was going to do to my body and how I would react to menopause. Surprisingly, I was more stable with it than I was going through my horrific periods each month! I had the normal side effects, lowered sex drive, hot flashes, etc. - but nothing that was overwhelming or made me think I couldn't handle it. In the end, having 4 months of shots, the fibroids hadn't shrunk enough to continue taking it. So my dr. proceeded with the myomectomy and removed 2 large fibroids - 1 was 12 cm, the other 7.5cm. Three months later, I was pregnant with our first child and and am preparing for my c-section in a few weeks. Even though the Lupron didn't shrink my fibroids a lot, I don't regret taking it in the slightest. F 30 4 months

3  endo/ 7cm endomitrioma on R ovary This is my first shot and not even a week into it I started my period and had worse bllod flow than I have had all year. But so far my main problem seems that I now have severe allergies. I have never had this problem before but now my eyes are itchy and water and the gland in my throat stay swollen most of the time I do get frequent headaches. So far the hot flashes havent been much but I am taking Prozac. My pain lightened up just after a week and i dot have much dicomfort except my period has never really ended its not much now more like spotting but on a everyday basis. I go back in june to find out if my endomitrioma is shrunk but if it hasnt i dont think i can afford to pay for this shot again. My is insurance is shit and i paid $1,685 for one shot!!!!! After reading others feedback on this drug I have decided maybe it would be good to take extra clacium maybe it will help from bone loss. F 30 3 weeks

3  severe endo hot flashes, acne, headaches, nausea, tired and weak, backache, depression, overwhelmed, constipation, painful urination, mood swings, memory loss, return of acid reflux, head feeling foggy, difficulty concentrating, weight gain, I never had any diet changes, didn't eat no more or no less, female organs ached unlike I ever experienced before By this time who cares about having a sex drive--This is my 2nd posting My side effects were just as bad as when I started out with the severe endo and a cyst that took over my left ovary and tube. I started out going to the dr. in Feb. 04 hoping to get help and treatment. By March 04 I had my first surgery in which I had the cyst, ovary, tube and what endo the Dr. gould get without damaging my organs, which were stuck together. I started my 1st treatment of lupron that March. As I said before my 1st 3-4 months I felt better than I had in years, side effects mostly hot flashes and some nausea. Within 5 months I developed all side effects listed. I had a 2nd surgery in Oct. 04 in which the dr. was able to remove all endo which I can say the shot done its job and shrunk all the endo that had my organs attached. Praise God! My last treatment on lupron was April 05. It took 4months for me to have a period. 6 months to loose the 1st lb. gained from shot which slowly but surely is coming off with regular exercise and trying to eat right.  3  severe endo female organs begin to ache after first 5 shots, frequent, painful urinating, constipation big time, depression, memory loss, mood swings, acid reflux bothering again, weight gain, problems with my nervous system, easily overwhelmed & aggreviated, definate attitude change putting it mildly nothing works quite right. I took lupron for a year. During my first 3-4 months I really began to feel back to normal again. I had hot flashes, mood swings, stress but with regular exersise I kept all under control. i even lost the weight that having endo so bad caused. After that 5th month changes went from good to bad. Now 4 months later after I'm through with the shots and I am still having many of these problems. Periods have returned after almost 3 months though not at all regular. I'm praying to God that I return to normal and that my endo does not return. What I really want to know is exactly how long does it take for all side effects to disappear and if they are going to. Heres to trying to remain hopeful in the thick of it. F 30 1 years

3  Endometriosis Hot flashes, mood swings, depression, exhaustion, tachycardia, nausea I was diagnosed with severe endo 6 months ago through surgery. My ultimate goal is to have a baby, which is the main reason I agreed to go on this treatment. For me a baby is the ultimate gift, so I have been using that excuse to deal with the symptoms. I just got my last shot about a month ago, so I do not know how well everything will work. But so far the side effects have been bearable with the right mental attitude. I try not to focus on the bad symptoms, and tried to focus on the end goal, which has helped. F 30 6 months

3  Severe/Stage 4 Endometriosis Major depression, Night Sweats, Terrible Insomnia, Vomiting in the mornings, Restless legs and arms, Memory loss When my specialist realized how severe my Endo was through laparoscopy, he closed me back up and told me he would not operate to remove the endo until I had take 3 months of Lupron shots (to shrink and possibly dry up the endo lesions). I had endo all over the inside of my abdomen, causing near kidney failure on one side.) I was hospitalized for 7 days to repair my kidney and then had to wait for 3 months (while on Lupron) to have my final surgery. During that time was one of the most miserable times of my life. I vomited almost every morning (it causes morning sickness) and I absolutely could not sleep at night, no matter how tired I was. I would sit up and read all night and cry because I was depressed and exhausted. I finally called my doctor and they prescribed something called BellaDonna (I think it was a mixture of a sleeping aid and BellaDonna, a natural herb, used for relaxtion) It helped a little bit. I also had a severe case of restless legs. I felt like I needed to g F 30 3 months

3  Endo Hot flashes, Night sweats, irritable and now on my 31st hour of no sleep. I read the comments before I took the injection. I swore if it worked, I would post. I've been on it sense the end of Feb 08'. I am VERY dizzy alot, tachycardia 3 times but nothing major, night sweats, hot flashes, insomnia, exhaustion and the pain has started again. The symptoms, for me, are tolerable. Its more the amount of symptoms I am experiencing that makes it SO annoying. Washing the floors at 10pm and folding laundry at 3am was not how I intended to spend the next 6 months...Will comment again after second injection. F 30 2 months

3  Endo Lost of weight of 8lbs, hot flashes every half n hour, night sweats, lost of memory, ensonmia, lost of vision, mild case of joint pain. Depression, crying all the time. Mood swings. I have been done with the Lupron shot for two months. Still no period. I feel sick to my stomach all the time, and I can't get enough sleep ever. I am wondering when it will go away and I can be normal. During the Lupron shot, the cycle stopped right after one week of being on it. The sym slowly starting taking over my body each month. The Doc did not tell me about loosing weight or lost of vision or memory loss. Was very scared that happened to me. I lost my job because of sym was taking over my body that I couldn't control. Luckily I found another job. I don't think I would do this again. F 30 3 months

3  Endometriosis Skin became very oily, hot flashes, insomnia, weight gain, mood swings, brain fog, eyes produced more oil in which I had to switch to daily contacts I was diagnosed with endometrioses in July 2016. My options were either getting a hysterectomy or being put on Lupron for 6-12 months. I opted for Lupron. I stopped bleeding altogether. The first month of being on Lupron increased my endometriosis pain severely. I had bad cramps/pain for the entire month. By month 2 the menopause symptoms kicked in. I was put on anti-depressants to help with the mood swings. I have gained about 15lbs while on Lupron. I do cramp while on Lupron, but it's no where near the pain I had before getting on it. It has completely stop my bleeding and definitely reduced the cramping and pain. I went from wearing 2 week wear contacts to having to wear daily contacts, because the oil my eyes produce makes my contacts blurry daily. My optometrist told me some women in menopause have this issue. I just had my 6 month apt to determine whether or not to extend it to 12 months. I have decided to get off and start a continual BC in hopes the bleeding will stay at bay. I was told if I start bleeding, my options again will be Lupron or hysterectomy. All in all, this medicine does help. But, for me, it gave me some pretty ugly side affects. I'm hoping I will not have to go back on it. I wouldn't discourage anyone from being on it, while this may be a last option before surgery. But, if you do consider starting this medicine, I recommend doing your research and just be aware/prepared for the possible side effects that may come with it for you. F 30 6 months

2  Endo Severe depression, anxiety, really severe hot flashes (now that I think about it, everything seems to be on the severe end)insomnia(can't remember the last time I slept through the night),all over muscle and joint pain, increased appitite, weight gain of 17 lbs almost all in my stomach area(have always been small and now weigh the most I ever have!),loss of breast tissue(went from a C to a large A, I started taking this after surgery and an endo ablation because I was desperate to get rid of the pain but it really never fully went away while on the Lupron. Now it's been 4 mons since the med should have worn off and I'm still experiencing the side effects. The only positive is that I haven't had a period in 10 mons!! F 30 6 months

2  Endo, infertility hot flashes, loss of appetite, SEVERE mood swings (crying one minute, screaming the next), increased heart rate, irrational thoughts, insomnia, lack of concentration, memory loss. My experience with this drug was a horrible one. However, symptoms like mine are in the minority. It obviously works for some people, but anyone that is considering taking this medication: just be well informed. If you do happen to fall into the 2% that have severe manic reaction, it will help if you and your immediate family are prepared. I was supposed to receive four injections but the 1st was so bad I decided against getting any more. The first few days after my shot I felt great. I had lots of energy and motivation. Then things started going downhill. I couldn't eat or sleep, I had dry heaves which eventually turned into vommiting. My mood and personality began to change. I had extremely irrational thoughts, a few of which were: I thought God and the Devil were talking to me and I thought my husband was having multiple affairs (which I had NO basis for thinking that at all). I don't remember a lot of what went on during those 40 days or so the drug was in my system. I had to be taken to the ER twice for what they called "manic episodes". I didn't have any kind of violent thoughts just yelling, screaming, crying and making no sense. I was put on an anti-psychotic and sleep medication to get me through the month. I missed about a week and a half of work and wasn't allowed to drive during the whole time. Once approx 45 days had passed to allow the Lupron to run its course, I came off all the other medication F 30 1 months
