LUPRON DEPOT  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to treat advanced prostate cancer in men. It is not a cure. Most types of prostate cancer need the male hormone testosterone to grow and spread. Leuprolide works by reducing the amount of testosterone that the body makes. This helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and helps relieve symptoms such as painful/difficult urination. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment.   FDA Approval Date: 1989-01-26 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

3  Endometriosis Headaches, dizziness, nausea, aches in arms and upper back, trouble sleeping, tiredness ranging from moderate to severe, and moodiness I guess I'm still undecided if all the side-effects will be worth the trouble. I am have some relief from pain, but not what I expected. I usually have pain in my right ovary each day no matter what. Now with the aches in my arms, I'm taking more motrin than I was before. The one positive is that with the lowered estrogen levels, my menstrual migraines are gone for right now. I just seem to have a general ache in my head. It could be from the aygestin I'm using for add-back therapy. Of course it could be from the fact I don't sleep very well. I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one whose having muscle/bone aches. Now I can go to my doctor with a little ammo. When I got my shot, he informed me that aches like that weren't know side-effects of Lupron. I will now inform him to do a little more research!!!  3  fibroids, heavy menstral cramping/b night sweats, increased appetite, joint pain (somewhat), increase appetite, weight gain (<5lbs) I am taking this to shrink fibroids and sch for a hyster in May 07. I have about 6 fibroids, my doc told me my uterus is the size of a 22 week pregnant woman. The first month was fine, about 4 weeks into the inj I had night sweats for about a 1 1/2wk. That has dissappeared now. Then I had the period from Hades, shopping with my kids and had to come home d/t cramping and bleeding uncontrollable. I stayed in the house tired, weak and hungry the whole weekend. I have gained 5lbs during this inj therapy. I am still working out 5-7xwk, and I can not lose the pounds. Good thing the weight is not increasing anymore. So far the eating when I'm not hungry is the biggest problem. Now I'm spotting, like my body wants to have a period but it will not happen. I have one more inj on 4-5-07. I hope it will end the period for good until the surgery. I say if you need the inj have it done. I have had minimal side effects but I still have one more injection, so who's to say what may happen the last mon F 35 2 months

3  Endo I had my first shot a few weeks ago and I feel just fine! I have no such side effects as many have stated they have had and I might after my next injection but damn, this is way better than a hysterectomy! I am sorry to say this, but someone of the opinions I read really sound like bull! I believe many of you have had some very bad side effects but I believe the ones leaving such bad opinions about this drug after taken one shot, is a bunch of bull! Thank you all for your opinions but I decided to take it! F 35 17 days

2  endo body aches, dizzyness, feeling light headed, weight gain, tiredness, anxiety, headaches, vaginal dryness I am currently on my second three month round of Lupron and just started feeling some of these horrible side effects. At first I wasn't sure what was wrong and why I was feeling this way until I did some research on line and realized that all of these things that I am feeling are side effects. I feel horrible. I ache like you would not believe, am very tired, have gained so much weight that my stomach actually hurts from it. I have had some relief from the pain but still continue to have periods and we all know with that comes pain. At this time I am not sure if I will do another three month round or not. I am going to continue to do more research that is forsure. Glad to know I am not alone though. F 35 5 months

2  Endo, ovarian cysts Fatigue, mood swings, leg and muscle cramps, hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, insomnia, short temper, water retention, weight gain(7 lbs in just 3 weeks!), headaches, cold like symptoms, stomach issues, bleeding, and the list goes on.... This is my second time taking it within a year with a laparoscopic surgery to remove endo cells in-between and to detach my ovary from my intestines. I do not feel like it is helping, but my doctor suggested it once again. I took the 3 month shot the first time and felt the side effects were much worse, but they are still coming on pretty strong the second time on the 1 month shot, and the symptoms started showing up with in about 7-10 days. I also had some allergic reaction on my eyelids to it. I have not decided if I will take the 2nd month shot yet. I am a competitive ice hockey player and these treatments really interfere with me being able to play my sport. F 35 3 weeks

1  not taking yet I just have a question..... I have had my tubes tied, so no chances of any more babies. I have pretty bad endo and it is affecting my bowels. My doc wants to do laproscopy and then put me on lupron, but the lupson sounds horrifying. If I can't have kids anyway, why should I go through all of that? Why not just have complete hysterectomy?  1  Endometriosis EXTREME Fatigue, Heahaches, Dizzyness, Nausea, Hot Flashes, Night Sweats & Moodiness The first 2 injections weren't too bad - they caused fatigue, hot flashes & night sweats. However, injections 3 & 4 caused EXTREME fatigue, dizzyness, nausea, headaches, hot flashes and moodiness. I'm NOT going to take injections 5 and 6. F 35 4.5 months

1  Severe Endometriosis uncontrollable crying spells, mood swings, forgetfulness, insomnia I have only received my first injection and it has been pure hell. I am either crying, or very mean. I would rather go through a hysterectomy than put my husband and children through the hell of the past few weeks. I would like to hear from others who have experienced problems, as I am considering not continuing with the F 35

1  Endometriosis/Adenomyosis Hot Flashes, Night Sweats, Insomnia, Memory Loss, Muscle & Bone Pain, Weight Gain, Headaches, Dizziness, Acne, Increased Pain, Extreme Fatigue, Swelling, Palpitations, Moodiness/Weepiness, Vision Problems, additional ovarian cysts I would think twice about taking this drug for endo, adeno, or fibroids. It only offers a temporary fix (if it works) & the side effects probably outweigh the benefits for most every woman. I still have 5 injections to go & may not finish them!! F 35 1 months

5  endo Nothing just yet. I only started yesterday, but I feel it has to be better than having severe pain every month. I feel as if I never even had the shot. But like I said I just started it. My ob/gyn said not to do any research on the internet on these sights like this because it only scares you. Everyone is different so I say go for it if your doctor recommends it. If you don't like it then stop taking it. I may even get a reaction later. Nobody knows until you try it. :) F 34 2 days

5  Stage 4 Endometriosis, infertility Mild heartburn for 3 days following my first injection. Mild hot flashes started after my 2nd injection which continued to increase in frequency and intensity. The hot flashes increased following my 3rd injection with night sweats, some insomnia, and some slight changes in irritability. My weight has remained stable and I haven't had problems with acne. I started Lupron Depot 1x/month inj immediately following lap surgery to remove stage 4 endo. My doc's goal was to put me on this med for 3 months to stop estrogen production to allow my body the chance to heal. I had my 3rd injection 3 weeks ago and will be seeing my doctor again next week to discuss the next step towards pursuing IVF. I'm fortunate because I never suffered w/ pain from my endo even though it had bound my organs together resulting in infertility and causing a kink in my bowel. Since starting Lupron, I've had some mild discomfort but nothing intolerable. The hot flashes feel like standing in front of a 400 degree oven when you first open the oven door, but they go away eventually. The night sweats are a nuisance, but I've been able to fall back asleep. I feel irritable at times, but honestly, I made the personal choice to accept that these symptoms are only temporary & this has allowed me to continue living my life without ruminating on how much it sucks to be infertile, to have endo, to have hot flashes as a 34-year old, etc. Remember that the majority of people who write blog entries are going to report their negative symptoms, while the people who don't have the side effects aren't even looking on the internet in the first place. I wanted to put my honest opinion out there to counteract the negative feedback. My heart goes out to anyone who has suffered from this medication. I wish you all the best of luck with your health and fertility:-) F 34 3 months
