Then began having severe pain like an abscess. Dr said it was due to jaw necrosis due to Bonica. Yes, bone death or necrosis due to a drug that was supposed to help build or maintain bone density. Put on Clindamycin for months. Early on I had numerous bone fragments removed, the area was biopsied, scraped/debrided, and after 6 months was finally told the infection was finally over. Then the oral surgeon gave me an appointment for 3 months from then. When asked why, he said to make sure it doesn't recur. Was very disgusted to hear the infection has a tendency to recur. Seems a never ending problem. | Will never take it again, and am telling all my family and friends to think twice and make sure they really NEED the drug and DO NOT TAKE IT PROPHYLACTICLY!!! Am now on increased doses of calcium w/ Vit D. As a nurse, I would say to stay away from any of the bone -building drugs as my doctor said they all can cause the same problem. Don't be afraid to tell your doctor NO!! Increase your calcium w/ Vit D intake instead. I had the worst cough, hoarse voice, upper respiratory issues! I went into my doctor a week later and she gave me an inhaler, antibiotics, cough medicine, etc. I went back into the doctor a week later and she gave me a steroid inhaler, to try with the inhaler and more medicine. My voice was hoarse since then. The cough has been awful. I was diagnosed with bronchitis and pneumonia. I quit coughing about three weeks into this whole thing but my voice was still hoarse.. My doctor encouraged me to take one more dose and see how I did. After four weeks of coughing, my cough was a very low level, and then I took another pill, and the cough returned within two days and my voice is very hoarse! I have been sick since I started taking this, and that’s only after the second dose but I’ve been sick since the first day I took it! | I am about one week in from taking my second dose. My husband said that’s my last dose! I ache all over I thought it was from coughing until I found this site and read these comments. My shoulder is killing me, my lower back is killing me! I thought it was from the coughing so much, now I kind of wonder! I am speaking this into my iPad, after using my inhaler and coughing through this writing here. My bone density remains -3.7 or something. I always have taken supplements. Two years ago I mysteriously felt a lot of aches and felt very fatigued. As before, the palms of hands and soles of feet get hot, red, and in pain. I have foot problems anyway, but the plantar fascitis flares up markedly. Terrible inability to either fall asleep or get back to sleep. Pains in abdomen. Pain in hip. Once the doctor returns from week-long spring break, I hope to research precisely when the switch to Boniva from Fosomax took place and the bone-density readings over the past 8 years, but it beings to look like either Fosomax or nothing will suffice. Staying off sleep meds, pain meds, and antacids -- using aroma-therapy and tart cherry juice for sleep. Always have slept poorly, but this amount of insomnia is crazy. The hip pain was a very deep pain in the bone. It would occasionally radiate down to my thigh. Lower back pain was not as severe as the hip/thigh pain. I took my first dose on Dec. 7, 2016 . I'm 65 and never had an ache or pain before taking this med. My dr thinks because of my age I'm getting this pain. I took Fosamax years ago and lost all strength in my arms.. After stopping Fosamax it took about 6 months to get my full strength back.
