I can't be sure but it seems that nitrofurantoin could be the cause of her on going ills. As far as we know she has only had the 2 courses but feel that this has been enough to wreck her health. Fatigue, nausea, stomach cramps. By the next day I was so nauseous I was afraid to leave the bathroom due to the loose bowels and extreme nausea. I was sent home from work because I was pale, sweating, and had vomited. I went home and spent the day running to the bathroom. The next morning I woke up to a red, raised patterned rash down my thighs to my shins. I was very dizzy and nauseous. Contacted dr who prescribed and was advised to stop the Macrobid, which I did immediately. | After stopping the prescription I had one calm day and am now back to the extreme nausea, stomach cramps, flu like symptoms. No appetite at all, water is barely tolerable. This Fire Ant itching was from the top of my scalp to the bottom of my feet and there wasn't an area in between that wasn't affected. I went to my doctor for relief from a UTI/Bladder infection ( I am allergic to sulpha) so Macrobid was prescribed (I had had it before with no side effects)...The doctor at that time prescribed a five day supply which I took with no reaction, however I could tell that the UTi had not quite cleared up (I feel that had I been given a 7 day supply of Macrobid that that would have done the trick, but since it did not, I returned to my doctors office2-3 days after finishing the initial prescription, So she gave me another script for 7 days worth. I filled that script and began it. I had no reaction during those 7 days either while taking Macrobid, however, 1-2 days after finishing the prescription....con't below | I was suddenly plagued with intense itching from my scalp to the bottom of my feet which when I would scratch to relieve the itch only made it extremely worse. There was welting, redness, my skin was hot to the touch and by the 3rd day of this I felt like I wanted to kill myself just to end the misery that I was in! I attended the emergency room, saw another doctor who told me that I was having a delayed allergic reaction to the Macrobid and gave me a Benadryl shot and prescribed more Benadryl to ease my reaction. This was almost 4 weeks ago and it's STILL GOING ON!! I have gone back to the original/my family doctor who put me on another medication which is a H2 inhibitor. Every few days, I stop taking the H2 inhibitor and Benadryl to see if this suffering/itching has stopped but so far it has NOT. I can't say that Macrobid is a horrible drug because I do know that it has worked for me in the past with no side effects , however this time has been a nightmare which is still occurring. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it was prescribed to me twice within a short period of time?? To me, this should have been something that was tested for and looked at prior to this being allowed on the market. Or at the very least, physicians should have been made aware of the possibility of this occurring with prolonged use or 2 or more prescriptions being issued within a short amount of time. I will absolutely refuse to take Macrobid in the future! The day before Thanksgiving I again was diagnosed with a severe UTI I got shot at the office and was given Macrobiotic again. (Thinking the last time was some sort of fluke) In the middle of the night I had to have my son bring me into the ER with the same symptoms. I tried to explain what happened before and what I needed. They did NOT believe me. I was told that this medication would not cause these symptions. Again after IV's and potassium I was fine. If you are female and over 40, NEVER take this medicine. About 2 years ago near the course, I developed a migraine to end all migraines. Didn't associate the headache with macrobid because I've taken so many times. Next time I developed another UTI, went back to it and within the day my headache came back. Clearly, it was the macrobid. Developed a sensitivity to it. Others work as without side effects. | At work today, another UTI hit like a ton of bricks. A prescription was called in alerting the prescriber that I am unable to use it. Received the med late this evening and realized it was the dreaded macromonster. Took one dose to at least start working on the UTI in hopes that I can get a different Rx tomorrow. All of the symptoms started within a day of starting the medicam but I thought it was probably a kidney thing due to a bad UTI. I got another UTI test and it was gone but the symptoms got worse. I stopped taking the macrobid but I am still a mess. I dont know how this is even on the market. | DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG.
