After receiving the first dose of Shingrix my whole arm started hurting and the pain slowly creeped up to the neck and upper back. After 8 hours I started experiencing flu like symptoms: 100.3 F fever, muscle aches, nausea, dizziness, chills. After taking Tylenol the fever subsided but the extreme deep muscle pain remained. I could not sleep until I took Aleve. I woke up feeling fine. I'll see how Day 2 goes. The vaccine manufacturers and vaccine administrations should prewarn patients that in the clinical trials more than half of recipients experienced flu like symptoms. Yes, this is written in the vaccine leaflet but how many people read it? Also, even if you experience these extreme unpleasant side effects, you should still get the second dose. Otherwise you are not protected against shingles, which is much, much worse and can result in life long recurring pain in addition to the immediate intense pain. I returned to work, feel alittle better but the injection site is hot to the touch and still painful. I wish the Pharmacist gave me a warning about this vaccine. Received 1st injection at noon on a Friday and was basically wiped out for the better part of the weekend feeling relatively normal again by Sunday afternoon. I am doubtful I will opt for the second dose in 2-6 months.
