Terrible headache and general fatique. I never had any pain or stiffness or spasm before vaccine. Slight nausea and malaise followed. Then came fever of 100.6 F with chills on and off overnight; took Tylenol and slept fitfully. Fever broke in morning and felt human again. Injection site was sore for days. Shot#2 at 90 days had lower fever but again a poor night's sleep even with Tylenol. Nausea, slight headache, malaise, fatigue lasting 3-6 days. Seems to have led into a strep infection in my throat so I can't really tease apart the fatigue, malaise, and headache from one to the other. I was warned about these probable side effects and chose to take the vaccine on a Friday each time (I work M-F). | Administered at Kroger pharmacy by pharmacist. Covered by my insurance. Expected side effects (was told when I was 49 by county immunization clinic). Would do again even though side effects suck. But I have continued to have joint pain in the shoulder of the arm I was injected in. I got the 2nd shot 3 months later and became ill abt 5hrs later. First symptom was nausea so i took my acid reflux meds double dose. Then the fever started going higher and higher up to 100.8. I took 3 tylenol and my fever went back to normal. The next morning I woke up with 100.7, body aches, headaches, earaches and sore throat. I took tylenol every 4hrs after that. I had no appetite for 3 days. I made myself eat on day 3. Day 4 i started feeling better. My arm was still swollen and sore tho. I also have diarrhea on day 4. Little pain during injection but significant deltoid pain began that evening and persisted for three days (kind of like a typhoid shot, but longer in duration). Deltoid pain still present after three days but progressively diminished to zero pain at the sixth day. I was also lacked energy and was extremely tired and sleepy on days one and two. Second dose .5ML intramuscular (deltoid) in dominant arm at Walgreens (military facility ran out of serum). Significant pain during injection (Dr stated he ran into resistance--hey, I've been working out ok :D ). Got my little Walgreens band-aid and off I went expecting the same symptoms as the first dose. Surprise! No symptoms whatsoever. I couldn't even feel the injection site that evening. Could not raise arm for days. Flu like symptoms, fatigue, night sweats. Advil and Tylenol definitely helped and did not miss any work functions. Took about 6-7 days to get completely over. 2nd Dose - Definitely dreaded getting the second dose. BUT- Didn't even feel the injection and absolutely no side effects at all, except for very minor soreness at injection site for about a day. | Definitely worth it - small discomfort outweighs getting the shingles. Don't back out of getting the second shot. Had the 2nd dose today, my heart started racing immediately, got home and took a shower, had the strangest bruising under both of my arms, starting on my armpits, no pain, later now and I have a headache, and terrible burning in my shoulders.
