For me, it was simple: the drug worked, but the zombie effect was bizarre and scary for myself, friends and my Dr.-- who was alarmed and said to stop the drug immediately. It was not an easy decision for me, as the drug worked like a magic wand to eliminate all anxiety. I went from pacing the floor all day and shivering with anxiety, not wanting to see anyone or do anything... to working with complete efficiency and walking around town with a bit of a smile --all the time. It was very, very shocking and unexpected, I had no idea the meds would have this effect & nothing I had ever taken had done this. I did not double-think anything- I just did it. It was quite wonderful, except that I felt medicated... in a robot, sci-fi way. That, and the fact that overnight sex did not interest me at all, was just too frightening. Medication should not eliminate your personality. After about 2 years, I began to notice my craving for alcohol was becoming a problem. I would literally drink 5ths of liqour every single day, ruining my social life basically, although I was happy inside, sounds strange eh? I realized the Zoloft must be the source of the alcohol craving, because thats when I started tapering myself off, and the alcohol went away completely, I went from 5ths a day to not a single drop just like that. Its strange because I had no side effects from the sudden decrease in alcohol. Tapering can be a bitch if you will, the elecrtic eye shocks are very annoying, and the lethargy can get to you. I am without Zoloft now and feel quite happy, which I believe came with age. I do however still take benzo's whenever I can find them, and Ultram everyday, which feels like a better solution to me personally as the months before I stopped Zoloft I did notice that it seemed to stop working, or it was becoming less effective, I also couldnt ejaculate to save my life, it took at least 1 hour even with the hottest women doing everything they could. Needless to say I lost alot of GF's that way heheh. I have tried all of the others. I started having panic attacks in late 1999, I soon started having excessive vaginal bleeding. I had a hysterectomy in May 2000 and went into a deep depression. I decided to follow my doctors advice and try the Zoloft. It had mild side effects at first, but didn't last long. I noticed I wasn't having anymore panic attacks. I started out on 25mg., I am now on 100mg. and been on it for about 1 year. I've heard from alot of people that they come off of it after they start feeling better, but I'm afraid to, I never want to have another panic attack again!
