The paxil started to become ineffective, and i gained about 35 lbs. on it, not fun for a teenager. The wellbutrin took a while to get into, my dr started me out really slow, and the tremmors were pretty bad at first. But if anyone is just starting out on this drug i say give it at least 2 months and expect that the side effects will stick around until you've reached the dose your going to stay at. But unless you are having major debilitating side effects, at least give it a change, it'll get better. One thing i want to note, they switched me to the generic buprobion or whatever when it finally came out...it was a bad point in my life anyway were is was struggling with a lot of family stuff, and i just thought my depression was getting worse, and the anxiety was worse, etc. My dr. switched me back to brand name, and I started feeling better again, more energy, happier, dealing with things a lot better, less anger, ect | F | 25 | 6 years | 3/5/2008 | 3 | Depressio | Exhaustion while exercising, nervousness around people, insecurity for no reason, rapid heart beat. | M | 40 | 6 years 150mg | 11/12/2013 | 5 | Depression | Initially experienced dry mouth, restlessness, a little anxious, headache. However, if you are an extremely anxious person, it may make your anxiety worse. It can make you shaky (specifically the immediate release version), but the XL didn't make me too shaky. It definitely helps with libido and did not cause any sexual side effects for me. Honestly the only downside is increased anxiety, but I would rather deal with anxiety than depression. They took me off of the Wellbutrin cold turkey, which I guess was necessary but it resulted in a severe depression relapse and acute suicidal ideation. The official judgment from my neurologist is that Wellbutrin does not cause seizures but it lowers seizure threshold, so it increases the likelihood of a seizure for people who are already vulnerable. It's worth stating I NEVER had a seizure when I wasn't taking this drug. I have since found a different miracle drug - the anti-convulsant and mood stabilizer, Lamictal. Anyway, I guess Wellbutrin messed with me neurologically in a huge way and I didn't even understand the full implications of it until after I was off of it. I am back to a level of mental acuity I haven't felt in years. Also, my skin cleared up immediately when I went off the Wellbutrin. My doctor mentioned that I should never try the generic because studies have shown that it doesn't work as well as the name brand, so now that the generic is often substituted in American pharmacies I buy this from a pharmacy in Canada. Canadian cost is 1/3 the price of how much I pay with insurance in the US! Every once in a while when the medication at 300mg is too much, my doctor reduces the amount to 150mg and vice versa if I'm needing more medication. It was paired with Depakote (made my hair fall out) and then Tegretol. That second combination has made my life so much better for the last 8 years.
