I would not be so ignorant as to tell someone to not take the drug; we all have different body chemical makeups and what works for some may not work for others. Prilosec doesn't work for me but I personally know others who have been very happy with this medication. Shortly after, I began having these symptoms. I went to the the walk-in clinic feeling like I had a sinus infection. A round of antibiotics later, I was no better. During the visit my BP was up a bit and a couple days later I began having panic attacks. I only have major med. insurance, so I was putting off going to the DR or ER. I have lowered my BP with diet and lifestyle changes, but the other systems are persisting. This has been quite debilitating: mood swings, irritability, always feeling unsure of my self. My wife found this site today and I was completely blown away by how many others suffer the same symptoms. Prilosec is the only medication I take, so I am stopping immediately. I have been taking prilosec for two months, the lump is still there, plus its worse than ever. I now can feel the liquid coming up my esophagus into my throat, and now I have a terrible taste in my mouth every day and am worried that my tastebuds are ruined. I feel so confused, like I have to think about everything I put in my mouth, which isn't much lately, and wake up worrying every day if I will feel terrible again. I am trying something called orange peel extract you get at the health food store, and also reading up on changing diet and meditation, since stress has a terrible effect on digestion. Oh, and also I have read that probiotics(like yogurt) and a digestive enzyme supplement are very helpful. I'm going to the natural food store today to ask some questions. You think you are helping yourself when you listen to doctors orders, but what they give you might just be exacerbating your condition. If you even have a condition! How can I be so much worse than when I initially went to the doc?? Oh, and also, I HAVE noticed lots of knee pain, but thought it was just over-exercising. I have felt like I have no energy, go to the gym and just feel exhausted. I'm going off of prilosec today and I'll report back and let you know how things are going. I was diagnosed with GERD and a Hiatal Hernia (runs in my family). I was prescribed 40mg of omeprazole a day for life. I took it for 2 months and everything was great, my symptoms were gone and I had no side effects. I was off of it for a few days without withdrawal symptoms because I went on vacation and forgot my meds. I came back and started taking it again. 2 days into taking them I was just standing around and I had a horrific panic attack out of nowhere. I almost passed out about 5 times in the span of an hour, I had chills, I was shaking, I could barely breathe, my heart was racing. So naturally I went to the ER. All of my tests came back perfect. I then talked to my uncle (who is a doctor) and he told me it's just anxiety, and that I must be stressed about something in my life. The only thing is that I'm happier than I've ever been at this stage in my life, and ive never even had anxiety or depression. Theres no way that 2 days into taking the meds again, I feel these side effects without them being correlated. Every doctor ive spoken to has said that omeprazole doesnt cause side effects. This pisses me off because I know my body better than anybody else, a PhD doesnt make you god. I stopped taking the meds a few days ago and have started taking B12, magnesium and 5htp supplements to combat the sever anxiety that I'm feeling constantly. This drug depletes magnesium which, I assume, caused the cramping. The piece de resistance was the rash. It began in my genitals and quickly spread to over 60% of my body which felt like it was on fire. The itching was similar to that of poison oak. After three conversations with advice nurses who just didn't get it and who prescribed ineffective meds I finally was seen by a doc. Now I'm on a steroid and other stuff and it's finally calming down. But I can't wear clothing without discomfort which is a bit of a problem. I have been off Prilosec for a about a week and feel so much better, even though the reflux has returned. I'll find another way to deal with it.
