PROLIA  (DENOSUMAB):  Denosumab is used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who are at high risk for bone fracture after menopause. It is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk for bone fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause (in women), as you age, if someone in your family has osteoporosis, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in women who are at high risk for bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for breast cancer. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk of bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Denosumab belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. It prevents certain cells in the body (osteoclasts) from breaking down bone.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Osteoperosis First 3 injections were OK. I had a 6 month break and then a 4th injection. Within two weeks I could hardly move. Felt like all my leg, grion and arm muscles had been kicked badly. 5 weeks later my Physician took blood and diagnosed very severe calcium deficiency and extremely high Thyroid levels. After urgent treatment and 6 weeks later my levels are back to normal, but pain still exists and is worse in the first half of the day. I am male, and 72 with only 30% kidney function. I live in Australia. I will never tough Prolia again, and worry about how it has ruined my quality of live. I was a very active person, and now have to get gardeners in etc do work I now cannot even think about. It has wrecked my life. 72 4 years

2  Told I had Osteoporosis Flu like symptoms and aching all over that began about 2 hours following the injection and lasted about 3 days. A few weeks later I began to experience severe fatigue. It is debilitating. I'm so tired that even getting out of bed is an effort. I hope this tiredness will go away soon. I am due for my 2nd dose in June 2017 but I am going to refuse it. I know my provider will be unhappy but to me the side effects out weigh any benefit this drug could provide. F 64 1 times

5  Osteoporosis After 1 year, only 2 shots, I still had osteoporosis. I was encouraged by my dr to continue the shots for 1 more year. After 2 years on prolia my bone density now showed osteopenia! I never had a negative side effect! But something very positive did occur totally unrelated to osteopenia and I believe but have no proof that the prolia had totally taken away the extreme pain and fluid development I had been experiencing in my right knee for the past 5 years diagnosed as bone on bone! Can anyone explain this to me? F 71 2 years

1  Osteoporosis Frequent UTI's, hip pain, knee pain, rib pain, shoulder pain, itching, constant runny nose, anxiety, depression, insomnia, nausea, fatigue, mental cloudiness, urinary incontinence. The bone pain was severe and it felt as though I had been kicked in the butt by a horse. I had to live on hydrocodone to control pain. This drug aged my mother by ten years. No dr except for an orthopedic surgeon would agree that the prolia caused all the pain. My mother had very little evidence from catscans and and X-rays to indicate that she had any degeneration in her knees to support the pain she experienced. She could only walk with a walker, however she stayed in bed almost around the clock. If she merely bent over her nose would run right down to the floor in a matter of seconds. As the shot waned--we are now almost 5 months since the shot was due to be re given, she has no pain in her knees, ribs, shoulders, or hips. She hasn't had a UTI in 2 plus months. She has less anxiety. She has much less nausea. She no longer itches until she bleeds. She is no longer incontinent of urine. The fatigue still lingers and the overall decline physically and the weakness is still an issue. I see that some women have reported here that the effects had lasted as long as a year plus to completely rid the body of this drug's toxic effects. What a terrible drug. Do not take it! F 78 1 years

1  Osteoporosis Bone and muscle pain. The bone and muscle pain is off the chart. My husband has had 1 shot in July 2016. He will not get another one. He was disabled before this shot but since getting it, he is worse. Prolia is suppose to help but he thinks it makes it worse and should be taken off the market. M 62 6 months

1  Osteopenia I have been experiencing rashes, problems with GERD despite being on medications, and bone pain in both of my wrists. I blindly took the injections without looking up the side effects, and I trusted my doctor to do what is in my best interests. F 54 2 years

1  Osteoporosis Since my one and only shot, I've had nausea, dizziness, jaw pain, bleeding gums for several weeks, leg, arm and shoulder pain, headaches with congested sinuses, palpitations, weight loss (definitely not needed), difficulty sleeping and utter fatigue. I've had my one and only shot! I had far too much faith in the doctor. I'm still hoping it doesn't leave a lot of long term ill effects after 6 months. I've had to take a leave from work for months. I resorted to seeing a herbalist who informed me these needles come with viruses and advised me to take high potency Wild Oil or Oregano, one at breakfast and one at bedtime. After some time this really seemed to help with the nausea and dizziness. I've also been going for weekly reflexology in hopes that supporting my organs and glands will lesson any long term damage. It has really helped me with the headaches, and sometimes with sleep. I still have the fatigue. An awful drug. I've found something natural I plan to try after the 6 months are over - Bone Booster and Collagen Plus (Lorna Vanderhaeghe products). F 67 4 months

4  I had severe osteoporosis Very bad flu like symptoms. Severe achiness in hands and pain in hips that lasted for months. I was told that my symptoms were not related to Prolia and my doctors don't seem to believe me that Prolia can make me feel this way. F 64 3 years

1  Osteoporosis Developed UTI which I had never had in my life. It too two rounds of antibiotics to help but still have some pain. Then I had strep throat and it took two z-Pak prescriptions to get better but lymph nodes in my neck were still swollen and inner ears had fluid. Blood pressure has been high and have had to add another blood pressure pill. Almost constant ringing in my ears and wonder if it has caused hearing loss. I have generally felt tired and not well ever since taking the shot of Prolia. At this time my right knee is swollen, my lower back hurts and I have to take Advil at least once a day for pain. One of my thumbs has developed a knot on top of the knuckle which keeps the thumb from bending as far as it should. I would never recommend that anyone take Prolia. It has made me feel bad for six months and I can only hope that the symptoms will soon go away. I was due to get my next injection in November but that will not happen. F 70 6 months

1  osteoporosis I didn't realise I was having side effects to this medication until my fourth injection.I was so sick I thought I was developing an illness my mother had died from.I felt perfectly well and within one hour everything changed I was suffering acute fatigue, severe pain in my bones, dizziness, out of body experience, stomach upset and sleeplessness. After a very long six weeks my symptoms are improving.I tried to discuss my reaction with two different doctors but in their opinion I was suffering from flu (for 6 weeks)I will never take this injection again.  2  Osteoporosis Urinary tract infection small hives I feel my doctor minimized the side effects. I developed a severe urinary tract infection that required two bouts of two different very strong antibiotics. I was assured that UTI are not side effects of Prolia but I disagree. I also developed small hive bumps here and there on my body--nothing that really bothered me but were probably warnings that my body had a tiny allergic response to Prolia. I took one shot of Prolia with little side effects--I experienced the above-mentioned sid effects with my second shot of Prolia. I will not take a third shot as I fear I may develop worse side effects. I was told Prolia must be taken for the rest of my life or its benefits will be lost in one year. Not worth the risk in my opinion. I think the bad side effects of Prolia are underplayed by doctors and the manufacturer. I will try doing recommended exercises and calcium intake to treat my osteoporosis. F 63 10 months

1  osteoporosis Low immunity, UTI, bone pain, severe joint pain in right shoulder, nausea, lack of appetite, flu symptoms that never go away, fatigue, brain fog, dizziness and insomnia. Until 4 months ago when I had my first shot, (apart from allergic rhinitis) I was rarely ill and had not had a UTI for 5 years. I would often avoid the flu or whatever virus was going around or just get a light, short dose. I am not and was not on any other medication. I have not been well since shortly after I had the shot. It may be coincidental but I suspect not. I am (normally) active, eat healthy (mostly), positive personality type and still work full time. I have been feeling so physically unwell in the last 4 months that I struggle to get through the days. F 62 4 months

1  osteoporosis Severe debilitating back pain, GI pain, jaw pain, severe chest pain, hair loss, swollen joints, loss of appetite, nausea and severe fatigue and weight loss. I wish I had read these reviews before I let my Dr. pressure me into taking this drug. The pain in my chest was so severe I ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. Had 3 more episodes of this chest pain. I took a shot in June 2016 and immediately started to feel bad. It has been 3 months and the side effects have only gotten worse. Not once did my Dr. mention ANY side effects associated with this awful drug. Please do your homework before making a decision on taking Prolia. I am contacting the FDA but not sure how much good they will do.Does anyone know how long this stays in your system? F 69 1 years

Terrible depression. This is poison. Reported it to the FDA… They have had many many calls like this one. Do not take this horrible shot please. My doctor never told me about any side effects. Never asked me about dental health etc. I IM now getting sores in my mouth. And this is a nightmare! Only been on it two months and can't wait for it to leave my,though I hear it takes a long time not six months. F 60 2 months
