PROLIA  (DENOSUMAB):  Denosumab is used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who are at high risk for bone fracture after menopause. It is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk for bone fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause (in women), as you age, if someone in your family has osteoporosis, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in women who are at high risk for bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for breast cancer. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk of bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Denosumab belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. It prevents certain cells in the body (osteoclasts) from breaking down bone.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Osteopenia Had my 3rd shot. No problem with the 1st 2. Not so lucky with this one. Having horrible bladder problems. So far 2 visits to the Urologist. Have tried several different meds for OAB. Nothing seems to work. Lido-cane in bladder didn't work either. Going to work is a nightmare. Will never get another shot again! I have contacted the FDA. Please do your research before you consider this drug. After reading all these reviews I can't believe this is still on the market. I guess drug companies just care about the $$. F 63 18 months

1  Osteoporosis 2-17-2017: 1st Prolia shot. Next day got severe flu symptoms. Lost weight, 6 pounds! 3-29-2017: Asked my doctor about my flu symptoms and extreme pain. I was told Prolia NOT cause of reaction and to stay on it because good for bones. 4-2-2017: Blisters and canker sores developing inside my mouth. Very very tired. Rough skin spots on arms, forehead. Stomach issues. I am sure it is a reaction to Prolia. I am almost 2 months into it. 4-18-2017: Developed horrible aching in upper left arm and shoulder. Pain is now moving right arm. VERY foggy in head. Little desire to do anything except eat and watch TV. 4-21-2017: Back teeth are really aching! Left arm is getting much worse and spreading to neck and upper left back. 4-24-2017: The pain from my shot arm has moved deep into left shoulder and neck. I feel like I am suffering from whip-lash! 4-30-2017: Getting worse! My left hand and arm are becoming weak. Difficult to hold weight in left hand. Continue ---> 5-2-2017: Left hand is very weak & left arm moves slowly. I need 2 hands to hold things. Upper teeth in my right jaw are aching again. 5-3-2016: Upper right teeth hurt badly with lots of swelling in the gum! 5-4-2017: Called dentist and made appointment. I know cause is the shot! 5-6-2017: Feel sick all day. Upper left arm and shoulder in chronic pain! Now back-of-neck VERY sore! Sleeping all day and night. 5-11-2017: So depressed! 5-12-2027: Woke up and so sleepy, went back to bed and slept until after 1pm. 5-16-2017: Shoulder ache keeping me awake. Neck too. Now shaky leg syndrome. Can't sleep. 5-17-2017: My left hand is tingling again and almost locked up on water bottle?? 5-18-2017: Went to my dentist on recomendation of my doctor. Dentist said "If only 1 tooth inflamed then it would be a dental issue" but not that. He saw whole row of teeth inflamed at the gum line, leading him to say "could be reaction to medication." 5-20-2017: Inflammation moving to right shoulder, and still all over left side and spine. Left arm and hand still week. Can't lift milk up to top shelf without right hand support. Reading and comprehending sentences now difficult. 5-22-2017: Another sleepless night due to extreme pain. It's like shards of glass are embedded in my upper left vertebrae. Please Lord, make it go away. 5-28-2017: I have given-up. Today I ate a lot of ice cream. 6-1-2017: Finally improving a little.  1  osteoporosis -3.7 Severe hip and leg pains Had no side effects after first shot, but within hours after the second shot had mild flu-like symptoms, which cleared up after a few days. A few weeks after the second shot, I began to have left hip pain, no mobility in that hip. Thinking it was something I had done in the gym with my trainer, we limited our workout. Pain did not improve. Then the right hip began to act up, too. Now, about two months after the second injection, I can barely walk. Pain is so severe at night that I can't sleep. I've been on osteoporosis drugs for for nearly twenty years (including Forteo, which gave me leg pains, but nothing like what I am experiencing now). I'm ready to give up. One thing is certain: I will never take this drug again. F 72 9 months

1  Osteoporosis I have osteopenia and suffered a stress fracture in my right heel. My doctors wanted me to start prolia. Unable to take pills due to gastric bypass. 1st shot no side effects. 2nd left groin pain but went away. 3rd shot severe right side groin, thigh, hip and back pain. Dictors did not believe it was the prolia. I waited 9 months fir the 4th shot because I was found to have lumbar disc disease pressing on a nerve. Doctors talked me into it and within 3 days my pain is worse then ever. I am beside myself. F 55 4 times

1  Osteoporosis Generalized aches, moderate to severe shoulder, hip, back pain. Initial dose of Prolia in May 2016. Second dose in December 2016. No side effects with first two injections. Third injection on June 9th, 2017. Ten days later experienced severe pain of shoulder which has spread to my hip and back. Also experiencing flu-like symptoms. It's now five weeks later and these symptoms persist. It gets more and more difficult to get out of bed. My doctors have no advice on what to expect or how to treat my symptoms except to use over-the-counter painkillers as needed. Will continue to take Calcium, Vit. D, and hope for the best. Nothing else to do since the drug will remain in my body for at least another 5 months. F 73 18 months

1  osteoporsis I have experienced most of the side effects. Weakened immune system-getting ill every 3-4 weeks. Flu like symptoms, pink eye, rash (which I thought was shingles), bronchitis, sinus problems, coughing, dizziness, problems walking, brain fog, hot/cold flashes, sciatica, gained10 lbs. quickly, frequent nausea, extreme fatigue, dental problems, low blood calcium, low blood protein, problems breathing. I just recently attributed these symptoms to Prolia. I have cancelled my 4th shot. And will never take this again.. I would suggest to anyone to never take this drug. F 72 2 years

2  Osteoporosis Started by tring oral osteo medication, which caused severe abdominal cramps for 2-3 days after each weekly pill, so doctor suggested the 6 month Prolia injection might be better tolerated. Just had my second injection, so don't know yet whether I am building bone density. About 1 month after first injection, developed severe anxiety. Doctor assured me this is not expected with Prolia, but took note. Symptom disappeared within a (horrific) month, and last 3 months of the first treatment there were no side effects. Three days after my second shot, I have abdominal cramping and diarrhea (3 days now), but feel fine otherwise. However.....since there are no solids left to pass after 3 days of every 30 minutes running to the bathroom, I am now leaking small blood clots when I cramp up. Doctor is on vacation, so I am managing on my own until I can talk to him, but if this is truly due to the Prolia, I will not have a third treatment. Cannot imagine how I am going to be able to go to work to F 61 7 months

1  Osteopenia Difficulty breathing, tightness to gain a full breath resulting in pain around sternum and rib cage. Swelling or tightness in back of throat made swallowing less natural to the point where my body didn't engage the swallowing mechanism. These side effects were the most difficult to experience - lasting approx 3 weeks. Other side effects lasting a day or so include the following: numbness in right hand and fingers, sciatica in right thigh, burned sensation on the roof of my mouth to the back of my throat, fatigue, and light-headedness. Now, a month later I am experiencing sudden weight gain. I have had one injection of prolia. It is important that those describing side effects explain how long their symptoms have lasted. At this point, I am afraid to have a second injection, though my doctor feels that my body will experience less of a reaction. The inability to breath properly and not being able to catch my breath was frightening. The tightness in the back of my throat making it difficult to swallow was even more frightening, but this subsided more quickly than the breathing problem. F 66 1 times

1  Osteoporosis No problem until 3rd shot. Projectile vomiting that night, couldn't sleep on my side any more. Was used to the chronic constipation from the first shot. Real problems started 10 days after the 3rd the 3rd shot, Prolia said that was the peak day. Unable to focus thoughts and very light headed, felt like I was going to pass out. Loss of appetite. Went home and laid down. Next day, still can't function normally. Feel like I am in a fog. I took Prolia to keep from breaking bones but until this med is out of my system, I'm afraid I'll fall down because I'm dizzy. I want my life back. $2600. for shots that are destroying women's life, Shame on you. I'm sitting here trying to work and all I want to do is go home and get my feet up higher than my head.  1  Ostopina Just had my 4th shot, 1 every 6 months. My oncologist down played the side effects. I have an infected tooth and my oncologist said the side of effect of ONJ, the bone comimg out of the jaw so that it is exposed, is too high of a risk to get the tooth removed. This drug makes it so the bones in your jaws dissenergrate and the gum doesn't heal and the bone in your will become visible and infected. (Google it). The doctors must be getting a kick back from Amgen when they prescribe it. At first I did fine now I don't want to walk, play tennis or do fun things with my kids because I feel like I have the flu and my right arm hurts. When I wake up in the morning my teeth feel akward. Two years ago I read the side effects in the literature from Amgen and ONJ -jaw rot was a rare side effect now Amgen says it is a common side effect. Stay away from this drug...after 2 years you will be lethargic, 15 pounds heavier, your teeth will feel loose, your skin will be flaky, your bones will ache. I take the calcium supplements with vit D too. Don't let Amgen say your are having these side effects because you're not taking calcium. Finds other ways to get your bones strong. Amgen just wants money..this drug is very expensive. The side effect of ONJ is horrible! Shame on Amgen for creating this drug and the doctors for prescribing it. I hope the CFO and the President of Amgen along with my oncologist get ONJ l and wake up every day feeling like their teeth are going to fall out. F 52 2 years
